The spare tails idea is a great one. I am confused though that you said the reverse light needs to be white to pass though it passes when it is black but not red?

The light needs to *Shine* white. With the smoke tinted reverse lights, the light bulbs still shines the same white color as stock.

With the red tints, the reverse light shined red just like the brake light, which means people would not know if I was reversing out of a driveway or parking space since my reverse lights were the same color as red brake lights.

I like your style. Don't see many Boxsters around at all.

Thanks, I wanted to bring something different to the scene.

I took the Euro Plate off for a while since the screws were too small for the holes that were already in the bumper. I was driving around with the plate in the corner of the inside front windshield.

But today, I got larger screws with nuts to hold it tightly in place. I took half the bumper off, put the nuts on and tightened it, put the bumper back on. Then I bent the euro plate to match the curve of the front bumper.
Here is how it looks now.

Rims Rims Rims

Okay everyone. I am stuck on my decision for rims. Ignore the poll. Here is the new poll. Just tell me which you guys think would look best.

O.Z. Allegerita HLT Gray (Lightest Wheels here by about 8lbs overall)

Example of O.Z. gray

Enkei NT03+M Bright Silver (Cheapest by $100)

Some Generic Brand. Deep Dish almost. (most expensive by an extra $100 and front rim is 1/2 inch thinner than other front rims)

OZ! lightest, good looking, and made well.

87fierogt 08-02-2011 04:15 PM

Generics but buy a set of used bbs lm that need refinishing and do them yourself they look great on everything in my opinion or something used in 2/3 Piece as multiple piece rims look great on these there's many older 70s/80S multiple piece rims that are ok in price and look great

c7scayman 08-24-2011 12:51 PM

I miss the all red tails. I will definitely switch back to them in the future.

In the mean time:
Front Lip Just ordered. It should make the car look more aggressive. Can't wait for it to be shipped. Lip does not come with screws or adhesives. Got to figure out a way to stick it on.

Any suggestions on strong weatherproof double stick tape I can use? Where to buy?

c7scayman 08-29-2011 12:32 PM

Front Lip arrived. :) Hopefully, I will get it installed by tomorrow. Will post pics.

In other news, I met this guy with a clean red early 90's Civic with Bronze rims, We were talking about our cars. I asked him, "how much do you think I bought my car for?" He said "$40,000". haha. If it was worth half of that, I would sell it right away and get a 993.

Also saw a nice red FD RX-7 in Bethesda, MD. The guy did not know how to drive it. Accelerating at the light, he was not used to the clutch. The force of the initial acceleration when the clutch caught caused his foot to accidentally hit the throttle over and over again making the car rock from front to back eventually making him stall the engine. Poor Mazda :(

cmr076 09-15-2011 11:18 PM

updates? and if you can find a nice 993 for 20k show me and ill buy two!

c7scayman 09-16-2011 12:38 AM

I was actually looking at 993's today as well as the gt2's. Saw a 2011 GT3 RS for sale at the Porsche dealer(Same colors from Top Gear GT3 RS vs SLS AMG vs 458 Italia episode)

CMR076, Here are two I found for $25,000 closer to your area.
http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/2502943942.html
http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/2601040075.html

So hard to find for $20g, but its possible with some scratches here and there and high mileage like the Boxster. But if I ever buy another Porsche, I think I would wait until I can afford my dream car, the Cayman R. I love GT3's. The Cayman R is the same idea, but handles better and comes much cheaper and I think looks better too. Just my opinion.

Updates:
I had problems with the front lip. I needed to buy 3M Adhesive Promoter for the double stick tape to work on front lip. It took me forever to find some. HomeDepot, Lowes, Advanced Auto, Pepboys, and Autozone did not have it. So I had to look online. I waited for a cheap price on ebay, then I ordered it. I am still waiting for it to be shipped. Its been a week already so it should arrive soon.

Also have not spent any money on performance parts because the pothole filled D.C. roads have been messing with my car. $360 to fix horn/airbag contacts, $150 to fix inner tie rod, $100 for alignment. Rotors are warped and need to be replaced. Still trying to find out where the vacuum leak is. Interior Door handle broke and needs to be fixed, wheel lock broke because previous owner tightened wheel bolts too tight so I had to order a new one. And I have to program the key remote because of battery replacement. And I just spent money on oil change and inspection. Still making $150/mo payments on car. And now it's almost time to pay up for another 6 months of car insurance as well as my rent and student loans.

The 1997-1999 models were known for the major issues. 2000 and newer had redesigned engines. From 2.5L to 2.7L that fixed the major problems from the 2.5L. The 3.2L from the S also has some problems, but not as much as the 2.5L. So the 2.7L, which I have, is the most reliable engine from the 1st gen Boxsters. Lucky me.

On one of the Boxster forums, one of the owners has a Boxster with 219,000 miles. And he put 185,000 of those miles on it. He has not had any major problems yet and just did regular maintenance including water pump, clutch, and changing belts over the years. According to the guys in Porsche forums, they run reliably if you drive them how they are meant to be driven. Those who baby their Porsche's tend to have more problems.

Yeah my boxster is beat too, but 5 spd.
Agreed on the 1M. Great car too. One of the best drivers cars next to the Cayman R. But the Cayman R is still my choice even though the 1M accelerates a bit quicker with its extra horses and is more practical with back seats.

Installed a universal front lip. Fell off 5 min later. but I got some nice pics of it. I installed it using adhesive promoter and high strength outdoor red tape. Next time, I will just drill holes under the bumper and buy some screws.

Cost for materials:
$35 for Rubber Lip
$6 for Adhesive Promoter
$4 for 3M Red Tape
$5 for screws and bolts.

Here is how it looks:

Cleaned out the throttle body. No more rough idle problems.
