Anyone can participate in any of these events? I've never autocrossed before but would like to give it a try.

You sure can, just bring your car and someone will help you class your car and fill you in on the basics. Don't be afraid to ask questions, people are willing to help.

Also they usually have racing helmets you can borrow for your runs.

Before you go, just be sure to empty your car and the trunk. In the past, they made me remove everything for safety reasons, including my phone charger and a tissue box. You can keep things in the storage compartments.

The SCCA website is not the easiest to navigate, buy you can find a PDF download there that explains everything about classes. Take blue painters tape with you so you can spell out the class and number of your car on the door.

They also expect you to volunteer at these events. If your class runs from 10-11, but the event lasts until 3pm, they would like you to help volunteer for at least a few runs. This volunteer work typically just involves picking up the cones after a car runs over them.

You can compete in the street category for your car. In that category, all cars are mostly stock. The street category allows only a few basic modifications like cat-back exhaust and performance air filter and rims/tires (same size as stock). No suspension changes allowed except for modification or addition or one sway bar. No weight reduction allowed except for taking out spare tire and tools.

I have always wanted to give auto cross a try. I just bought a 2015 V6 Charger, and I know it is a bigger car. I have some handling mods planned for the car, but I want to get a good feel of the car stock before mods. Did i read correctly you can take a class prior to hitting the course ?, s i would love some good instruction before hand.

For Novices, you would go to any SCCA autox event and register as a novice. They give you an instructor to drive with, if you want an instructor. It is not a requirement to drive with an instructor as a novice.

There were a few Camaro RS V6 and Mustang V6's at the course that day.

Yes. But I think it is $5-10 cheaper if you pre-purchase online.
