15psi88's 2006 Viper coupe
I work out of Mckpat's garage, and have been following his build in real life. He's inspired me to post up a little of my own. Build threads were life growing up. I spent way too much time scouring the internet looking at all sorts of stuff through the years.
I know I'm usually tldr when I see more than one line of text in a build thread so we'll keep things moving. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4195/3...46624ace_z.jpg1 I bought it on 19/20" Race Tech Forged wheels and BC coil overs. https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7548/2...4606a5ac_z.jpg2 When we were kids my brother and I spent years playing Gran Turismo. It was Corvette vs Viper nine times out of ten. We play video games a lot less now. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4199/3...67ae1b7e_z.jpg2 I drove it a week, took it to the track. Broke it. Peddling it to a wheel hopping 12.5 @115 on a 2.3 sixty. It ripped an exhaust hanger off its weld. So naturally the modding had to start. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/3...3ebb0a9b_z.jpg4 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4246/3...68c10f33fa.jpg9 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4273/3...81e820f8_z.jpg10 I removed the high flow catted Borla setup. Replaced the cats with flex pipes, added a single Magnaflow, and a 3.5" aluminum tail pipe. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4268/3...4497e615_z.jpg11 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4224/3...5c98ee83_z.jpg13173960_1801000480121343_55054885697186686_n |
Turns out aluminum tail pipes either can't take the abuse/heat, or I'm a ****ty welder. It broke the weld off at the Vband 3 different times. Exhaust round two consisted of ARH long tubes, adding another muffler, and switching to stainless tail pipes.

I welded over the brand name that was machined into the top of the throttle body and powdercoated it. The oval pipe out a round hole just never worked for me. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4204/3...a2e91691_z.jpg20 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4227/3...4ebe6344_z.jpg21 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4223/3...bc8a42de_z.jpg22 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4269/3...a92f1d6d_z.jpg23 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4219/3...ba910e3b_z.jpgIMAG0113 |

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4276/3...28e1c12c_z.jpg26 Got rid of the polished fuel lid. Brushed and smoke cleared https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/3...1039f2ce_z.jpg27 MGW with Hurst knob. I had to cut the end off of an OEM Fbody shifter handle and weld it to the Viper handle. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4195/3...69311e9934.jpg28 OE heat shields placed over the headers. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4274/3...53bb8381_z.jpg29 |
Such a nice car man. Love Vipers

Thanks Dutch!
When I bought the car, I knew I wanted some fat rubber. I had to have 18's, which is the smallest you can fit without going to a smaller rear brake setup. I had kept my eyes open, occasionally looking for wheels to pop up. Found a guy in Texas selling a set of grungy gen2 CCW race classics and struck a deal with him. They came with washed up Hoosiers, that I had to try on of course. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4275/3...13273719_z.jpg31 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4219/3...dccb0765_z.jpg32 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4243/3...5f747415_z.jpg33 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4247/3...915f99f9_z.jpg34 Paired up with a 345 30 18 M/T drag radial 245 45 17 Nitto for comparison :) https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4225/3...2586e8e6_z.jpg35 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4220/3...21deff8f_z.jpg36 Gen 2 fitment is way different than the Gen3. I have the rear wheels on the front and vice versa, relipped, barrels swapped.. Frankenstein'd, but I got it done and it only required the use of an 1/8" spacer at all 4 corners. The image above is before I broke the wheels down and swapped parts around. It did require a 3/8" spacer to clear the caliper in this configuration, so it pokes a lot. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4274/3...e88031e2_z.jpg38 After breaking them down I ordered new hardware and started refinishing. The wheels were shotpeened originally so I had to sand them smooth. I had planned on adding smoke clear to the faces until I sampled it an realized it just looks like everything was covered in brake dust. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4226/3...0b173034_z.jpg39 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4252/3...46b853a2_z.jpg40 Chaos lol https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/3...9f53e29d_z.jpg41 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4219/3...2d90a487_z.jpg42 I looked everywhere for metric hardware with blue nylon for the attaching hardware. I found some in Europe on Ebay and had it shipped over. When it came the nylon wasn't as blue as I had wanted and I had a vision in my head I just couldn't let go. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4224/3...458535f0_z.jpg43 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/3...886f3435_z.jpg44 So I hand painted each individual nut. Don't worry there's flex additive in the paint. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4271/3...b982bb68_z.jpg45 I got to the part where I really had to start sizing everything to get it to fit. This is a picture of the front wheel after getting the face spaced to clear the caliper. So new lips were in order. Fast forward like 3 months. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4228/3...f9723616_z.jpg46 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4224/3...93fcd138_z.jpg47 Promptly whacked the new polished lips with some scotch bright. I ordered the lips raw.. but well after dealing with CCW a while, I'm just happy I got them. I sanded on the faces until my fingers bled, literally. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4196/3...3464b572_z.jpg49 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4243/3...4bb8d4b2_z.jpg50 But then, the payoff.. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4244/3...79dc5fdc_z.jpg48 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4268/3...6037355a_z.jpg51 My buddies got to me and I had to ditch the blue valve stem lol.. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4225/3...2a823f82_z.jpgIMAG0638 18's don't clear the ebrake cable assembly so some modification was necessary. "They" sell kit in the Viper market..over 90 bucks for these little blocks with some holes drilled/tapped. I spent an afternoon with an angle grinder and a file and made some. Topped it off with some titanium hardware. Cost about 8 bucks.. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4276/3...008f2360_z.jpgIMAG0641 Now, they fit :) https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4247/3...55d39e45_z.jpg52 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4270/3...9929b3ed_z.jpg53 The front wheels ended up being 11.5" after I was done swapping and relipping. I put a 295 on it but really hate that it's a little stretched. I might put a 305 on it, or rebarrel it to a 10". Either way, I'm gonna have to rock it this way for the season. |

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4272/3...215b7ca7_z.jpg55 Some of these are not in chronological, so excuse me.. I'm just kind of dumping pictures until we get current. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4249/3...c47b03cb_z.jpg56 All LED lighting, https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4272/3...1e383e5d_z.jpg57 I thought this was going to happen, but it's too late into the season to tear it down now. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4225/3...dd61d153_z.jpg58 I'm going to send the heads out to be cnc ported/gone over. Cam specs: 234 239 615 615, 114 lsa Shooting for 600 wheel and or 130 traps. Feelsgoodman.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4198/3...79fec89c_z.jpg59 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4200/3...544fd9ee_z.jpg60 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4203/3...faf69da4_z.jpg61 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4252/3...3415b44f_z.jpg62 I really wanted to leave it like this, but the covers are magnesium and were very porous after grinding the letters off.. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4201/3...f5a2648a_z.jpg63 Here's something I don't recommend lol https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4197/3...3c9c9951_z.jpg64 I checked all over the internet for "modifying PA plates" but I couldn't find anything concrete. I know if you've gotta ask, you probably shouldn't. Still gonna send it. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4251/3...5a1c1793_z.jpg65 |
Finally have a car nice enough the interior was on the list hahaaa
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4251/3...7b9d3514_z.jpg66 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4272/3...461dc84c_z.jpg67 I took the fuel rails off to powdercoat them and upon reassembling, I couldn't stand the gooky looking fuel line cross over. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4196/3...5960d04c_z.jpg68 So I sliced the ends off and welded on some fittings. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4225/3...3543e495_z.jpg69 https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4275/3...56145c2a_z.jpg70 Not really knowing it was a fatal attempt for the fuel rails. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4250/3...22543662_z.jpg71 My weld leaked on the drivers side bung, after re-welding it several times I had basically lost my mind. The fitting still leaked. It's in the woods somewhere behind the shop now. I ordered billet fuel rails to take their place. |
Ayyye, more activity on TST. Make TST great again. What isn't mentioned is the several month long search for just the right Viper, mixed with wading through waist deep bull****, that didn't even lead to this particular car. All for the better, though, as this thing is so, so clean and well kept. WAS well kept, I guess, haha. Before it got cut to ****. I'm just joshin'.

I love this thread :drag:
You're still at it full on, and I'm sort of jealous. I'm still messing with cars but I'm not doing awesome things like this lately. Also, it's not as fun when you're not doing it with friends -- unexpected realization when I moved. Also, can we stop and appreciate the original emojis, before the iPhone even existed? :partyman: |
