so on my last oil change i used royal purple since i got 5 qts free. i always use mobile 1 fully syth. since it good for the price but i heard somewhere that if u go to use royal purple u gotta stick wit it for good is this true so i cant go back to using mobile1 one i gotta fork out the money to use royal purple?

There's no sticking with any particular oil once you get it. You can always revert back without a problem.

BoostedQuad4 09-20-2009 07:40 PM

lol thats not true at all, and royal purple IMO is way overpriced, but so is almost everything else in america now days

ndubz 09-20-2009 11:23 PM

i've used royal purple since i've purchased my car, and i'm 65k miles in with no issues/problems at all. the car runs great, even at the higher mileage.

FocusDude 09-21-2009 07:39 AM

Ha I've never used pricey oil and at 105k the hamster's pulling better then ever.

jpalamar 09-21-2009 08:21 AM

If you change your oil at normal intervals, it doesn't matter what oil you use. Synthetic may get a few more miles but who wants to really push it when it only takes 30 minutes to do an oil change.

I use whatever is on sale.

OMGz Turbo 09-21-2009 09:16 AM

I always used mobil 1...thats all the neon has ever seen

marshallpre1 09-21-2009 10:30 AM

Normal Oil for Corolla- when it was still alive
Mobil 1 for SRT-4- Since it's on sale most of the time
Castrol Syntec/Edge for Supra w PureOne or Mobil 1 Oil filter

Elliott18t 09-21-2009 10:33 AM

castrol syntec ftw.. mobil 1 is crappy anymore, i noticed in my car..

vdcoff 09-21-2009 11:10 AM

when i bought my car i used mobil 1, but now i use royal purple...i may start using castrol syntec, my last oil change cost me 60 dollars and I change it myself, thats just buying the oil and filter :(

TunedIS300 09-21-2009 11:28 AM

yea royal purple coast me about 50ish wit oil and filter where i can get mobil 1 and a filter for a little under 35 bucks

KingKong8247 09-21-2009 11:36 AM

I used royal purple for a while. I stopped when my block cracked. I thought it was just a BHG so I swapped the head gasket and you could tell it was still burning coolant. With the Royal purple you couldn't really tell there was coolant in the oil.

I used a metal HG and just figured it didn't seal right. So I changed it again for a felpro. This time used regular oil and when I drained it, it came out looking like chocolate milk.

Yeah that day sucked.

Lucky I am up to about 100 bucks an oil change now. Needs 8.5 qts

marshallpre1 09-21-2009 11:55 AM

It seems like EDGE is a really good product. Apparently it is a Group IV oil like Mobil 1 EP (EDIT: This may not be true, EDGE may only be a Group III).

Castrol also has a $15 off mail in rebate for the Edge!

use to only use royal purple on my z, then switched to mobile 1 synthetic and been using that for the past couple years with no problem..purple is way over priced

turboman808 09-21-2009 12:14 PM

All the Porsche guys swear by Brad Penn oil. Seems to be reasonably priced. Not even sure if it's synthetic or not. But even all the engine builders I know swear by this stuff.

I have it in my porsche since my mechanic puts it in for me. Other cars are running Castrol synthetic since thats what I have always used. I might try Brad Penn but I never see it in the stores.

Pennzoil Platinum showed great resistance to fuel dilution and break down when used in MZR engines. This is all according to a OA. So as long as I own the ms3 it will get PP.
