C5Z... now with headers... post 410

Picked it up for $22k and it has 43k miles on it. Figured I would start a build thread even though I don't have a ton of plans for the car. It maintenance and such. I've very happy with it basically stock.

My plans so far are new brakes(which I already ordered and scheduled to be delivered today!), black out side markers and tails, tint, PC wheels and exhaust tips in black or black chrome, still not decided yet. PC my stock red Z06 calipers yellow. I am also going to be changing the tires. Currently has PS2 on it and I will need to get some Conti DWS for the fall/winter months.

Current mods on the car are a Corsa exhaust with x-pipe and a MGW shifter.

For those of you that don't know the differences between the regular Corvette and Z06 here is a basic list.

Body of the Z06 only comes in a coupe . The base comes in targa, vert and coupe.

The LS6 produces 405 horsepower at 6000 rpm, and 400 lb•ft at 4800 rpm, redlines at 6500 rpm (versus the LS1's 6000 rpm redline). New pistons are made from M142 aluminum alloy which has proved to be stronger and more durable than the material used in the LS1. Compression bump from 10.1:1 to 10.5:1 with new heads and sodium filled exhaust valves. More aggressive cam, bigger fuel injectors, more aggressive transmission gearing.

Suspension features unique shock calibrations, a larger front stabilizer bar, a stiffer rear leaf spring, and revised camber settings. Wider wheels (9.5 front and 10.5 rear). Titanium exhaust weighs 1/2 as much as the base, removal of the pre-cats. Lightweight front and rear glass. Vented front and rear brake system.

I've always loved C5 Z06's in yellow man! Great looking car, seems like it's in amazing condition!

I almost got one when I was shopping around and decided to go with the Z instead, but was a close call...

With those things it's so easy to make an extra 50-60 horsepower from such a small budget if you do it right!

Once again, beautiful car, nice purchase! Keep us posted with the progress...and please be an innovator and lower it (at least a bit)

jpalamar 03-07-2012 09:12 AM

I actually passed on a Z06 a few years back and went with a GTO. The GTO was a much better car as a DD but I'm at the point in my life where I can give up some creature comforts to feel truely planted to the road. I love the yellow too!

I'll probally do some small things power wise in the future. It is very balanced as is and I don't want to take away from that if possible. Def an intake, long tubes, and tuning in the future though.

Can't lower it. The wind deflector under the bumper already scrapes a bump. I actually have to re-pitch our driveway so I can get in. Not sure if that counts as a mod though?!?! The ongoing joke with all the locals now is that I have the most wheel gap LOL.

Sweet! Great pick up man!

Totally jealous of you:( but congrats on the pickup dude! I want a ride:)

Mine was dumped, it scraped everywhere but really wasn't much worse than stock height. Do it! I think I spent about $7 and an afternoon to get my frc nice and low.

You'll love it, and c5s are awesome daily drivers as long as you don't have kids. The only thing that stops them in bad weather is a closed garage door :)

Very nice. I have driven a few of these. Shifting gears feels weird. Not very super car-like. But it is still a fast car.

You know its yellow, right? :bigeek:

lol jk. sweet ride.

I donated my bacon magnet to my friends M3. The Vette isn't magnetic LOL.

I'll see what I can do about an exhaust clip. Don't have anything that will really do decent audio but I'm sure someone on TST does that will help.

JERRYM1997 03-07-2012 04:19 PM

I thought it was a sticker haha and no corvettes are absolute not magnetic

Beautiful car man, hopefully you make it some NJ meets this year.

cookiemonster17 03-07-2012 04:29 PM

that must be fun getting up ur driveway

mcperson2k 03-07-2012 05:05 PM

I'm jelly... Nice car..

I can't even count how many times iv seen Corvettes scraping that deflector just driving through the Walmart parking lot.

Slevin 03-07-2012 05:36 PM

i call bs on the thread title. there are two things that can stop your zo6:
1) stopping for bacon sale
2) crashing into 5,000 lbs of bacon
both prevent the vehicle from driving for an extended period of time

TalonTsi97 03-07-2012 05:47 PM

Not a fan of yellow, but i am a big fan of C5Z's. Great bang for the buck.
