Good idea or no??

Buyer backed out on my turbo kit for the GA.. Would you think it would be a good idea to raffle it off? 10$ a ticket asking for 250 tickets... I would program a number generator into generating a random number, that way everyone has a chance of winning and i can limit the tickets up to like 10-15? than someone that can literally pay 10 $ can win and just go boost there GA

Xavier 11-25-2009 08:56 AM

Are there 250 people out there who event want a turbo'd Grand Am?

jpalamar 11-25-2009 08:58 AM

Bad idea. Just deal with the fact that you wasted your money on a turbo kit on a Grand Am. Just hold onto it and hope another buyer comes along.

420sx 11-25-2009 09:14 AM

I agree.. Too small of a market for turbo grand am's for you to make your money back sellin raffle tickets. You'll end up with 30 tickets sold and still have to raffle it off. You'd be better off selling or parting it.

SoStock92 11-25-2009 10:13 AM

Coming from an IT perspective I wouldn't trust a "random number generator that you programmed" ;)

96Stang 11-25-2009 10:16 AM

Id pay $10 bucks for a ticket...I might even buy 2.
Who wouldnt want a $20 car??? Who cares if its a turbo GA or a 91 Dodge Shadow...its a chance to win a car for $10 and is no real loss to anyone. It would all be in how you market the tickets.

I'd prolly make something up in visual basic haha... something easy.

But its not the whole car... but ill post what comes with it...

a T04E / T3 V band Turbocharger
Oil feed/return with the T connection for the feed.
38mm tial external wastegate with a 7 lb spring in it and i have a 10 lb spring.
Donkey Punch Performance Log Manifolds with a crossover pipe
2.5" Downpipe
Gutted cat with a open cutout with the blockoff plate
PLX wide band air/fuel DM-5 version(not even 2 months old) has a warranty on it.
Maxiumum performance boost gauge/trans temp and plx wide band digital gauge with a bouncing LED
Vaccum lines
TurboXS "RFL" (really ****ing loud) blow off valve, I can have people vouch this is loud as hell! (got 2)
Intercooler with IC piping
LS6 MAF
Turbo XS Manual Boost Controller(got 2)
Pretuned PCM
MSD 8.5mm wires with heat sleeves
K&N Filter
DHP PowerTuner with adapter hookup to a usb (for laptop)
65 lb mototron injectors (630cc)
a cut bumper so you don't have to worry about cutting your reinforcement(IC piping goes through it
I think I still have my old one so I will give you the fuse box support that is already cut so you can fit everything in there.
Flame Proof 2000º Coating
About 100$ worth of braided lines you can use!

Some MPH times I calculated:
0-60 - 4.5 seconds

Car ran a 14.013 @ 103 mph with NO FIRST GEAR With boost leak on 4 PSI

Car itself is going back to stock... I do have a built transmission put in it.. I should sell the trans and put a stock one in... but It will last longer for the next person... LSD diff, accumalator pistons, High Friction Clutch plates, etc etc. not even 1k on it.

Also if i do decide to do what i said.. I'm going to make a video of me having picked a random number... along with a spreadsheet of the order of tickets bought so there is no flaming.

jpalamar 11-25-2009 12:23 PM

You are going to set yourself up for legal risk to raffle it off.

ViperDom 11-25-2009 12:31 PM

bad idea.

Here are 2 options that i can think of:

Option A. If you want a quick sale:
Put the kit up on Ebay and go around to every pontiac forum you can find to post a link to the ad to bring more of the target audience/market to the table.
Many people are intimidated with a custom kit like this. It just looks like a pile of parts and a big headache to most.
Buying a complete bigname kit with instructions is nice because you know it is going to work. With your kit there will be some doubt in the mind of any prospective buyer. You have to counter this by saying in your ad that you are 100% willing to be available via phone&email if any advice is needed to complete the installation on the buyers vehicle.

Option B:
Put up for sale locally (this forum, craigslist, local regional section of pontiac forums, ect...)
Offer to Include installation with the sale. This will give the buyer confidence in the workability of the product and will show that you care and want to see the kit put to good use.
(you could prob set up this kit in a day, as where it might take someone like me a month to figure everything out...)

put yourself in the buyers shoes

goodluck

doug 11-25-2009 01:05 PM

dumbest idea ever.

96Stang 11-25-2009 01:45 PM

Just realized this was just talking about the turbo kit...not gonna work. No one is going to buy raffle tickets to win a turbo kit for a car that not many people modify.

doug 11-25-2009 02:07 PM

usually you raffle something that's in a high purchase demand..

92sileighty 11-25-2009 02:21 PM

get em doug

Scapegoat 11-25-2009 03:49 PM

you're better off removing all the grand am specific parts and selling everything else as a bundle

SheaButter 11-25-2009 05:06 PM

Yeah I would not try and sell it as a GA turbo kit. I would just make it a turbo kit and sell it that way. You will be able to sell it easier this way and probably make almost as much if where to sell it as a GA kit. Good Luck sir, DO NOT do a raffle unless you know 100% that you can sell enough tickets to make some money off the sale.
