FBI virus

Was surfing the forum on my work PC and the screen locked, a fake FBI warning popped up. Google shows its a scam. Only site I was on at the time was TST.

Was able to clean it using MS Forefront 2010. Set to run a full PC scan daily during lunch so I know it happened today and from this site.

Anyone else have this happen?

This is the only site I get viruses from. It's been probably 2 years tho.

I haven't had anything like this happen to me. What browser are you using, Jay?

Work is on IE 8... on XP. We are beyond due for an upgrade LOL

I remember like 2 years ago, the site was trying to install malware, and nobody with certain preventative software could do anything for like 2 weeks.

I remember my first time using a computer. I used Internet Explorer as well, lots of porn, readily available as today though, did what I could.

But seriously, negative Batman. Most likely your computer and you provided minimal details.

Have you run any scanners on it? Malwarebytes? Spybot?

My dad had that one. When the computer started up it came up with a locked screen saying that the FBI locked his pc and he had to pay a fee to get a unlock code.
The fee could be paid at your local 7-11 store.
I didn't bother trying to remove it.
I just backed up his files and reinstalled Windows.

The smartest thing you can do for a virus. I have not had a virus on any of my many computers for a long time... But if I even think there is a threat on my computer I just re-image.

Yea it's not work screwing around with them. I have a USB adapter for any hard drives. So i just pull the drive and copy the personal data.
Then reimage.

Just got the same virus on my laptop this week. Unfortunately I'm not sure if I picked it up from TST or another website. Ended up having to manually remove it....what a pain in the ass.

I store all my personal data on redundant arrays and cloud storage, installed programs on a dedicated drive and the OS on another dedicated drive. This way I only have to wipe 1 or 2 drives and scan the raw data for threats. I also make a clonezilla backup of my OS drive this way the re-image only takes a short time rather than completing a long install process. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. :)

Also, I only use MSE and occasionally scan with spybot, malwarebytes and a couple others. Anything more is overkill.... Careful browsing and clicking is the first line of defense.
