Another benefit to having MRC:
http://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/suspen...rs?parent=1034 Price for swaybar kit with MRC http://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/suspen...86?parent=1034 Price without it (need new links) Just hurry up and wait. |
Why do end links make that much of a cost difference?

So the ZL1 with the 6 piston front brakes and 285 width front tires brakes in 96 feet from 60mph-0mph. That car weighs about 300lbs more than the SS/1LE models. The factory SS with 4 piston front brakes does 60-0 in 104 feet with 245 width front tires. I now wonder what the 1LE brakes that distance in....same 285 width front tires, same front brakes as the ZL1, but minus the 300 lbs. * - according to Motor Trend or Car and Driver, forget which. Lots of different numbers online too. |
To complete the rear look of the car, I ordered the GM LED dark tail lights as well as matching reflector vinyl tint.
I've been wanting the tail lights for awhile now, and will post the before and after. (still waiting on GM for actual performance parts). |
I'd be on it doing the 60-0 in 90 feet or so.
I'm sure you know, but tire width isn't a HUGE factor in braking. Likely just the better tires lol |

Yeah, i'm just throwing every variable at it. It's still pretty incredible to me. Christmas gifts for the Camaro: https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/288/31...151c14df_z.jpg Cargo net for the trunk, GM accessory. Won't hold much, but could be good for loose tools. Also, some floormats to match the rest of the interior: https://d354nuoz4t18d4.cloudfront.ne...d2e1b27b76.jpg All GM accessory'd out at this point. Next post will be the dark tail lights installed with smoked vinyl inlays for the brake light and red reflectors in the rear. |
I saw a 50th anniversary edition the other day, sitting outside at a dealership. Your pictures look way nicer than the salt encrusted mess I saw :)

Much nicer... too bad about the plate :-p
I really hope to do some DC region autocrosses this year, you'll have to come out to one, I want a ride :) |
Quote:
If you come down for a D.C. Autox, please let me know. I intend to do a few as well as a track weekend this summer. Got a new helmet and everything! :) You can take the car for a run at the autox, no need to ride along when you can drive it. (I'm pretty bad at autox as it is anyway) |
Bleh - tail lights don't arrive until the 3rd. Received the vinyl kit today. Hurry up and wait.

Will do, they seem like a good crew. I owe some competition to those guys, they've been cruising the 3 hours up here to compete against me, lol. Sounds good. I'd offer the RS, but if you suck at autocross.... |

Hahaha, sounds great. I tend to drive off course more than hit cones. Your RS is safe haha:mrgreen: |

Picture time! First, lets start with...interior: https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/542/31...fbb8255a_z.jpg https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/779/31...5df5fe5b_z.jpg Next, let's look at how the car sat with the winter wheels: https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/424/31...06bfcff3_z.jpg Tail light time: Comparison side by side: https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/472/31...fff59a4d_z.jpg Installed the lights: https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/411/31...8cdaa6e3_z.jpg Now the 3rd brake light kind of sticks out: https://c6.staticflickr.com/1/413/31...bbdae0f4_z.jpg Let's fix that with some vinyl from Big Worm Graphix: https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/454/31...b9c2c93d_z.jpg Here is how the lights look when lit up: https://c8.staticflickr.com/1/340/31...47c8483d_z.jpg https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5339/3...deca0551_z.jpg I'll take some daytime pictures tomorrow to give a better contrast, but I have to say that I am really happy with how this turned out. The car came from the factory looking aggressive but had some color mismatching and five different exterior colors on the 50th edition (orange, matte gray, nightfall gray, red, chevy yellow/gold). i've now reduced that to the orange, matte gray, nightfall gray and some slight red from the smoked brake lights/reflectors. For the interior, I ramped up the use of aluminum with the pedal covers and added more orange trim with the floormats. The GM accessory catalog has now been picked clean with what I wanted out of it. Since I'm now engaged too (Seven is my west coast doppleganger apparently:lol:), and GM has been taking release of the 1LE parts/Performance parts slowly, I've decided to run the car as-is this summer at autox and the track this summer. I'm going to do some magazine digging to find what the delta is between the two cars on the skidpad, braking and slalom just because i'm curious. :) In the meantime, I'm sure i'll be on here to discuss more Camaro content as information becomes wider and deeper for this car. |
Congrats on the engagement!
Also, those taillights look a LOT better! Third brake light needs more darkness, even after the tinting, IMO. |

She was actually the one that convinced me to head to the track for the entire weekend instead of just the first day. Glad I did! Here is the site where I got these from: http://www.bigwormgraphix.com/2016-1...ight-only.html I'm not sure about the darkest one...I have the middle darkness as it is. Think I could get away with having it essentially blacked out and not running into legal issues? (I have no idea if that's a thing or not) edit: after talking to three other people, same thoughts as you. Went with the darkest vinyl. ordered will update once its on |
I was actually wondering if you could get a clear lens and tint it with your current level of tint. I'd personally not go darker unless you plan on putting brighter LEDs in there... That said, I have no idea what it looks like with the brake lights on.

Some outside shots of the new setup:
https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/373/31...867a36ef_z.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/647/31...2e68dc25_z.jpg Overcast skies make the paint look darker than it really is...although it is a darker shade of gray, there is more to it. |
Does it hide dirt well?
|
New tail lights look amazing, congrats on the engagement buday.
|
really like the look of the new tail lights!

Thanks guys, they make the car that much more fun to look at. Really wish I had the factory wheels on the car to complete the look. Stupid winter  |
The P5s look a lot less OEM on your car, for sure.
THat first pic really hides the CHMSL, BTW. I think tinting the reflectors on the bumper would help blend it into the body in the other pics. |

I have matching vinyl for those reflectors too, just didn't put them on due to ordering the darker tinted vinyl kit. :) I may return it to sender.. |
Finished up the vinyl on the diffuser reflectors to finish up the rear of the car. I have dark vinyl inserts too, but the gun smoke tint seems to work ok?
https://c4.staticflickr.com/1/506/32...7f015ae3_z.jpg A bit blurry with the same crappy lighting from the parking garage, but hopefully gives an idea: https://c2.staticflickr.com/1/295/31...27e48e3b_c.jpg Weather is supposed to hit 60 degrees this week, so i'll be sure to do a hand wash and get better photos. |
Love the blacked out look, looks mean.
|
looks way better like that!
|
Thank you guys!
So I did look up the SS vs. 1LE stats on braking and road holding. All numbers courtesy of Car and Driver to maintain consistency. These numbers still vary within the publication so i'm using the long term numbers. Braking 70-0 mph SS: 150 feet (as low as 147 feet in matchup vs. Mustang GT which scored 157 feet in the comparison) 1LE: 141 feet Mustang GT w/ PP: 156 feet BMW M2: 159 feet Roadholding: SS: 0.98g (identical in matchup vs. Mustang GT) 1LE: 1.05g Mustang GT w/ PP: 0.94g BMW M2: 0.99g 1.05g from a factory "muscle" car is pretty ballistic. I'm looking forward to seeing track times this summer when I take it to Shenandoah. 1:54 in my 911 seems to be an easy target with this car. |
I'll show up with my GTI and run 1:50s :) At least until it inevitably breaks....
Seriously though, that target is a good one to aim for, especially on stock tires. The BRZ was running in the lower 1:50s on stock tires (which are a LOT better than people give them credit for, I was pulling 1G-ish), with full exhaust, tune, & pads. I doubt the coilovers were what gained me the 5-ish seconds, hurray tires :) I think you have a lot of time to gain by being a bit more willing to push the limits of the car hopping kerbing and such, but I 100% understand NOT doing that. When I went to VIR I drove much more relaxed than at Shenandoah and it was a lot less mentally taxing and I'm sure better for the car. |
