Corvette prblem

my brother in law is having a problem with his 00' vette. When you start the car, a message comes across the gauges where the milage is and it says, "Steering Collum Lock", then a second later it says "Remove key, wait 10 seconds". But when you remove the key and wait, when you start the car again it still displays the message. When you try to drive the car, according the the manual, when it hits 1.5mph, it cuts the fuel pump and stalls the engine so you cant drive. Does anyone know anything about this or how to fix it? Just tryin to find out if there is a easyer solution than gettin it towed the the shop

It's related to the GM Passlock system, and the system needs to be reprogrammed or the Passlock module replaced.

could it have been from the battery being dead a few weeks ago? I charged it last weekend, he only drives the car about once a month

The dead battery CAN affect the reaction of the PassLock system....but it's not a battery issue, it's an incorrect PassLock sensor reading.
