Boot for your car

So I was able to pick up a few wheel boots, the kind that prevent a car from being driven off. They brand is Mega Lock. Has anyone ever heard of them or have and experiences?

2001teg,

do you plan to go into the vigilante parking police business with those things?

2001teg 01-02-2011 04:43 AM

Hah naah, I have a Honda. Can't be safe enough anymore, so I figured this was the best form of security. I bought three so maybe if a neighbor annoys me enough they can get a boot.

1st time i ever saw one was on an EVO at the philadelphia convention center in a parking lot. there basicley ment to keep your car from being towed off or stolen.

so now ppl who steal cars need to bring a jack and car/furniture dolly to push the car away from where its parked. Still better than nothing tho.

considering what the OP drives, im suprised he doesn't have a fuel kill switch, alarm, rolls of razor wire and a pitbull guarding his car. Driving a nice honda around is like parading a hot chick in a prison yard.

all the normal security measures are in place, however the theifs know how to get around them. so another method of secuity can allways help.

a few negatives i can think of:

- It looks similar to the boot that is there to say: Look at me i didnt pay my tickets.
- People walking past your car will LOL and assume you were booted.
- You wake up to rain or sleet or snow and have to fiddle with that thing
- In the dark someone could wait near your car and when your bent over fiddling with it trying to find the key hole the crook pistol whips you and steals your car.
- It looks ridiculous
- Added wieght to your car from that anchor
- Your in a hurry and forget about it....backing out of a parking space... WHAP!!!!
- You are lucky enough to get a girl to go on a date with you and when you pull up to the wafflehouse and go to put the boot on she looks at you confused. Then when you try to explain she laughs in your face and calls a friend to pick her up.
- It looks ridiculous

one positive that i can think of:
-it would be a great prank for the local meet

This. I cant tell you how many times I've dumped my airbags when i've parked my car, and forgotten to raise my car when I go to drive off.

jpalamar 01-03-2011 05:16 PM

I would rather someone steal my car then have to use that.

hulkster 01-03-2011 05:32 PM

i can see this maybe if you were going away for a while but for daily use seems overboard.

Overboard on a Honda still isn't enough.

The good news is, the wheel boot will keep the amateur thief from stealing your car because in this case time and availability is a savior.

-Takes too much time to get the wheel boot off.
-When it comes to Honda's, there's probably another stealable Honda in the same lot or close by for them to hit.

Along with all of the other security measures, it's a pretty good instant "**** that" type of layer.

OutToWinPAHC 01-04-2011 12:46 AM
