Went with some friend to the Greenwich Concourse yesterday.
Without a doubt the highlight for me, and it was a huge surprise. Jaguar had brought over the XJ13 from england. This is the first time the XJ13 has been on American soil. To the people who really know their cars and history this was a huge deal. Should have seem the crowd around this car all day long. Right next to it was the American LeMans winning Jaguar/Sill Cut race car which would normally be very cool but in the XJ13s presence it was ignored.
Next I went over by the water near the auction house and who do I see sitting at a picnic table none other then famous car buyer Wayne Carini. I went up and said hi, told him I really like his show. He was very nice and friendly.
After that I noticed the Fitch Pheonix and went to talk to the owner. Turned out it was a friend of John's and it was also John's car that his friend just went over this winter and did a mini restoration. Fitch himself showed up later and rode shotgun. At 92 I can understand if he wants to take it easy. But if you spend any amount of time in Ct you are familiar with this car. I have seen it for years before finally meeting the man who created it.
Back under the Auction tent they had a hell of alot of fiats. Really cool and interesting stuff. It as almost like everything was done in minature. One of my friends really fell in love with the fiat beach cruiser. Has beach chairs for the seats made out of wicker.
We walked around the auction tent and really is alot of amazing stuff. It's better then the show because you can get up close and personal with the cars. When we got to the 1907 Thomas Flyer we must have spent close to an hour just staring at all the little details. So many little things to discover on that car. There was a small wooden box on the dash the we opened and from what I could tell it was the distributor and had like cam lobes they hit something that caused the spark.
After that we went over to the AMG car test. 550hp sl you think is gonna be screaming fast but it really wasn't. $140k and it's slow, yikes no thanks. Not to mention its a little girly if ya ask me.
