From what I know, the only ones in PA allowed to use radar are state troopers. The rest of the police use vascar (timing a car between two lines painted on the road). If this is true, do state police patrol all over or only on state roads?
And how does NJ work with speed limit enforcement?
If you know about other states as well that'd be good information too.
Thanks...

in nj, any officer certified to use a radar system can. The ones not certified are ususally the new officers. So basically any officer in NJ can you radar including state police. Police can also pace a car in NJ. A police officer that is certified to use radar is also technically able to look at a car and if he can tell that the car is traveling about say 65 in a 40 he can right a ticket based on this knowledge. NJ radar certified officers are able to tell how fast a car is traveling just by looking at it and be within 2 miles of the actualy speed. They must be able to do this to become certified.

wow really? i thought if they didnt actually get you with a radar gun or vascar or some other method of calculation, all they can really do is call it reckless driving or something of the sort. hmmm interesting

Well at least not in NJ, I personally would right a careless driving ticket to someone who i saw driving fast, but reckless is a very hard statue to right someone. Reckless driving states "someone who drives in willful or wanton disregard of the safety of others" So a cop has to prove that u drove unsafely with intent.
