Ok, so i got a really good deal on a set of gauges. Im going with Boost and Egt but need a 3rd gauge to fit in the hood. I can choose between oil or fuel pressure. Which is more important if @ all? Thanks for any recomendations in advance.

Fuel pressure would be better to have since your car already comes with oil pressure gauge and a low oil pressure warning light.

On the other hand, it would be nice to see what fuel pressure is doing once you start playing with lots of boost and more horsepower.

In your case I would also say fuel pressure for the same reasons already stated. Chances are you won't have to worry about oil pressure with your car.

Do u have an A/F? Go Fuel Press. between those 2.

If you have the money I recommend getting a real (wideband) A/F gauge before the other stuff, even though the EGT will help with tuning too. They're not cheap though.

yeah, I would definitely go with a wideband before the others. The wideband will give you a more direct idea of tune.

Wideband?

AEM UEGO is what you want

wgknestrick

AEM’s UEGO Display Gauge includes a 0-5 Volt analog output that can be used with data-loggers or most aftermarket engine management systems, and includes an RS 232 serial data output port for data logging without an engine management system. AEM’s UEGO Display Gauge is calibrated to work with AEM UEGO sensor controllers ONLY.

These units display to 0.1 AFR and feature 24 color-coded LED display lights for immediate reference to engine AFR, and an integrated three-digit real-time display for AFR. The AEM UEGO Display Gauge is available with a silver or black bezel, and with a black or white face.

AEM’s UEGO Display Gauge displays one channel only, so users wishing to display two channels simultaneously will need two gauges (V6 to V10 applications).

Thanks again guys for the input! I will look into that. As for the 2 choices i mentioned though is the consensus Fuel?

IMHO, i would reccomend oil temperature as opposed to pressure.

my logic is that with oil pressure, if the gauge shows a loss in pressure, chances are that its already too late to do something to stop the damage.

however with oil temp - the temp will show you when your car is fully warmed up & ready for hard driving. The temp will also tell you if you are driving your car too hard - & when it needs to cool down a bit.

as for the wideband O2 gauges, the AEM UEGO only reads down to a certain amount which if i remember correctly, is right on the edge of Subarus reccomended AFR, so the gauge will only be useable to a certain degree. if you are interested in a WB O2 gauge, i would reccomend the innovate motorsports XD1. its more expensive - but has a MUCH wider range of reading.

check it out for yourself. and also ask others on this forum. I know that Karl has the AEM UEGO, and Criz has the LM1 from innovate. im sure both of them would be happy to tell you their likes & dislikes of their WBO2 gauges.

Thanks! good info. Looks like i have alot to think about. Criz and Karl thoughts on what you have?

I agree with WKderF about the oil temp gauge. I'm putting one in my GSX.

wideband and boost, two most important gauges

oil pressure is the single most important gauge you can have. an oil light is worthless, if it comes on it's too late.

agreed^^!!!!! go with the oil press gauge, and make sure its electric. you dont want an oil line coming into the cabin lol. then id go with either a water temp or fuel pressure gauge if you plan on getting an additional 4th gauge.

Jeep has a mechanical oil pressure gauge. No problems yet.

i'm having this debate currently. want to stick with greddy b/c that's what my other two are... but they have discontinued the 52mm black faced oil press electrical.
so now i'm vascilating between temp (oil) and fuel pressure. which one is more of a pita to install?

however if you do have a problem with oil pressure, and your gauge shows a loss, by then it will already be too late to do something about it except watch the neede fall & your engine fail. wheras with oil temp, as mentioned before, you can check to see that your car is ready for hard drivin, and when youre drivin it too hard.

I have seen a Honda a civic and a toyota Corolla go several miles with no oil and only destroy a cams.

Several DSMrs have also done a full blast down the track and lost oil pressure only to kill a turbo.

While a oil pressure light helps it definitely would be nice to get an idea of true oil pressure.

At least in 1g DSMs the stock oil pressure gauge is slow and barely better than the no oil pressure light.

If you do get a oil pressure gauge make sure it has a warning light or buzzer or else it is just as worthless.

I agree with the wideband and boost being the most important guages to have.

Though I agree an EGT is also valuable. Those would probably be the 3 I would go for.

temp it is  bonus too, that one's cheaper!
