this is all pretty general info, but applies to most of the engines used. the block is manufactured entirely out of alluminum, with cast iron cylinder liners for strength. the crankshaft, rods, and pistons are forged for strength. the rods and rod caps are actually one solid piece when manufactured and then cracked at the end to make the cap separate. this method makes the rod very strong and when assembling it makes it impossible to put the cap on the incorrect way.
on the turbo engines piston oil squirters were incorporated to keep piston temperatures down. most engines also use oil coolers.
the head is also made of alluminum. its a dohc setup with variable valve timing.
