Possibility of a 2 door sti??

I've been hoping for a 2dr sti since 2004 but it never looked like it would happen. I read that the primary reason for the 4dr, and then the hatch was that they were structurally better for rallying and that Subaru had to produce what they ran. Well now that the new rally rules have been put into place, will Subaru still be producing/sponsoring an fi car? If so, do you think they will still hang onto the 4dr hatch or will this give them some more room for change? Just curious. Actually, I'm not even 100% sure exactly what the new requirements are but I read that they were no longer allowing turbos?

I seriously doubt it. The car would lose alot of it's practicality and versatility, that's an important thing for the sti. Also, now that the toyota/ subaru RWD coupe is more or less in the works there's no reason to make a two door sti. And as much as i like the hatchback over the sedan (personaly preferance) i think they should bring the sedan sti into play soon.

But their are tons of other 4dr options if versatility is what you're looking for. It seems like every performance oriented tuner friendly car that's come out has been 4 dr.

You do have the r32 but it doesn't come in manual, and the gti has gotten to be more of a touring car then a sports car. Even the Mugen si is a 4dr. It seems like noone has really tapped into the fi/manual/coupe market in an affordable price point. I think most people that buy an sti or evo do so for the performace value, not hauling a family. Their only real competition would be the Genesis but imo it wouldn't be much of a competitor. As far as the Subaru/Toyota project is concerned, I'm all for it but I don't think they've confirmed the use of the sti motor.

Does Subaru make any two-doors anymore? I would buy one if they offered a two-door but being a four door or even a five door hatch isn't going to stop me from owning an STI.

Right. I bought an sti in 07. I bought it for performance and "dealt" with the fact that it was a sedan. Had a 2dr been available it would've been my first choice. I'd love to see a revamped 2.5 rs coupe style sti.

I can't see them making a 2 door STI. Hasn't there always been talk of a Subby coupe to kind of fill the spot of the SVX? I think that's the closest you'll get to a 2door, unless you buy the old body style coupe and do a wrx transplant :)

I also thought I read Subaru was dropping from the WRC? Maybe just the manufacturers series?

12/12/08 New World Rally Car details revealed

The FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) has announced further technical details of the future World Rally Car.
After meeting today in Monaco, the council reconfirmed that the 2010 World Rally Car will be based on an S2000 specification car.
However, the scope of the removable performance kit, already adopted by the WMSC to bring the car to WRC specification, has been redefined - with no electronic benefits, or similar upgrades, allowed on cost grounds.
Instead, the WRC kit is believed to be limited to a turbo, revised inlet and exhaust manifolds, a quicker gearshift mechanism (with steering wheel paddle shift) and an aero package consisting of a rear wing and front spoiler. The bolt-on kit will cost under 30.000 Euros and should give the cars an extra 50bhp.
The WMSC also decided that the new S2000-based World Rally Car will only be permitted for use on World Rally Championship events, and that the P-WRC will remain open to Group N cars, including the existing S2000 car.
The FIA also revealed that it is in exclusive negotiations with Ralliart Italy to supply and service Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution cars for the Pirelli Star Drivers to contest the designated 2009 and 2010 FIA World Rally Championship events.

I read in a few years engine displacement will be dropped to 1.6 or something and the ban on forced induction will be lifted then. for what it's worth

Its deff possible. We havent seen the official Subaru version of the FT86, but from what I understand the subaru version will have awd and be turbo. If it is like that then there may be an STi version of it at some point that would be a coupe...... its not an impreza, but overall STi is like subaru's M division is to BMW. There was a forester Sti a few years back and I heard something abut a legacy Sti sometime but idk what happened to that. But yea, an sti version of the upcoming subie/toyota coupe could bring it back, and they could keep the impreza STi a sedan or wagon or both.

Nope, i said up there i like the hatch more then the sedan. The hatch can be made to look totally badass. I didn't like the new styling either, but it grew on me.
