My wonderful soon to be father in-law decided to show me how to change the fuel filter on my boiler. in the process he destroyed my boiler. after paying $900 for a repairman to be at my house for three days it has come to the point where replacement is the only real option left. can anyone help me out. I haven't had heat since New Years.

A new boiler will be much louder then your old one... thats the efficiency talking to you!

All I could do is give you the name of a local reputable company we use to maintain our boiler. They have always been extremely professional, punctual, and very clean when working in our home. I work in the trades and come down quite hard on most contractors, I just expect the best... and these guys have been there. PM me for the info if you wish.

I say get a insert wood burner and a hot water heater.... F oil!

Honestly, look into going to electric baseboards and an electric water heater. I use Meenan. But have their platinum plan which gives you a 50% on new boilers. I think my buddy just had to replace his when he sold his house. Ran him $2500 WITH the platinum plan. So, figure around 5k for heater and install. I do know there are other heater companies around, I just haven't used them. Also, Home Depot sells heaters and can give you a qoute on install as well. Good luck man, no heat sucks. It has been pretty damn cold lately.

thanks for the help and info due to the winter weather I couldn't really wait too long on making a decision. I went with AKS Mechanical, to install the replacement, they were also the same company that tried to repair it. Drew the owner has been really great to work with and has given us what i think is a great deal on the replacement. $4k total package price for the new boiler and installation. (he normally charge just under $5k) Him and his crew have been very prompt and have been very clean and professional. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. and the great news is hopefully by the time i get home it will be installed and working!

Thanks again focus and busted.

FYI, I do not believe a wood burner would pass for the U&O inspection come time to sell the house. We looked at a house in Holly Hill that had a pellet stove, and we would of had to put in an entire new system.

ALSO, Grimm, at this point (and I don't know how much money you have to work with, this is just an idea). Maybe look into doing an AC/Heating unit. This way you get central air as well as heat, then you can get a Water Heater.

EEK! I just thought about that. . no hot water?! FFUUUUCCCCKKKKKKKKK

we have a separate central air unit already. our original plan (before this boiler got destroyed) was to save up for an low mass indirect unit. but that would have been around $10k and being that this was not planned and happened right after the holidays we just couldn't do it financially.

We use our fireplace a lot to supplement heating the house.

but yes EEEk is right.luckily i have been able to use a relatives shower.

All depends on proper ventilation to pass U&O, but if your not selling-
