Never taken my car there.. and don't really hear to much about it.

If he wants a private shop with much better/ affordable rates, he should try Dresden Auto Works. Blaire is a Certified VW tech that used to be at Garnet. His shop is off Rt. 3 (i think) but closer to west chester.

If he wants a dealership. Some of the Garnet people went to Fred Beans, and I've heard that it's better gotten reviews, then in the past.
I still take my car to Garnet and have had great service without issue.

I work at Garnet, and know of Blaire. What are the issues with the car?

It looks good, it needs to be dropped more and the wheels need to grow on me I guess, but I'd rock it either way haha.

He was driving and the transmision just gave up, out of the blue, on rt 3 by Nova. No slipping, no trany cel, car was great. he did replace battery few days ago. I just thought an auto trany usually gives signs it's getting worn, clutch packs worn=heat=slipping of trany ...etc etc. They want a lot of money. Over $4k.
Advise is GREATLY appreciated! I dont fully trust YBH and feel they are taking advantage of old people, imo. lol.
Thank you.

ps...I need two on my cars detailed (04 eb expedition and my 06 STI). Ill be pm'ing for an apptmnt.

Hm. What year/model is the car? Miles as well, I'll discuss it with the service advisors here and get their take on it. In any case, I havent heard many things about YBH and that can go both ways. I know on any big repair here, we work with the customer as much as possible and we go out of the way here for the customers.

Looking forward to the PM!

Ok, I'll run it by these guys and see what they say, the miles helps too and any ESP on the vehicle. Little young to be losing a trans...

Does he go by Reece? Little blonde guy?

C'DALE, Replacing a VW transmission out of warranty is about 8 hours of labor through the shop which equates to $900, that is without the price of parts and such. Did they say the transmission needs to be replaced completely? Trying to guesstimate/ballpark the issues here.

thanks for your opinion. I seem to agree so far.

She has 75k on her. Yes, they said it needs a new trany. Which is possible but like i am saying, in my experience and understanding of trany's they usually are symptomatic very much so and dont just stop working pronto. more like a module issue?
thanks a LOT! IOU.

Not a problem, just looking to help. I agree on the symptomatic part, they dont just...go...and if that is the case then I'd get in touch with VW themselves. In all honesty, I'd grab it out of YBH and have Dresden or Garnet check it out and make sure it is the actual trans that needs to be replaced and not something less. Like I said, I havent heard much about YBH but that can go both ways.

i know what you mean by shady dealership, i bought my jetta 2 months ago from piazza vw in ardmore and it was having problems every week so i got tired of taking it up there and went to garnet and haven't had a problem since

YBH is reeeeeeealy shady. My buddy bought an 04 Jetta GLI from them a few years back, lost a center cap to one of his rims a few days after he got it, and they tried to charge him for a new rim and tire, even though he had a lifetime warranty on the rims. I'd say get a quote from a respectable shop that you trust, see what they say, and go back to YBH with that price.

Oh, since its an 07, did he get any kind of warranty on the car? I doubt it would cover tranny issues, but its worth looking into if he did.

With 75k on the clock, he's out of most ESP warranties let alone the factory warranty. I still vote taking it some where else and at least having them look at it, Garnet is worlds more capable of a dealership than YBH, especially in it's service department.

4 grand for a trans installed on a 07 really doesn't seem that far fetched.

While through a dealer, it doesn't seem far fetched, what seems far fetched is an 07 Trans just going completely - without warning. It can possibly be something significantly less, even an electrical issue as VW is known for it's electrical engineering. He should definitely have someone else examine the car and make sure it in fact needs an all new trans, it could be YBH trying to make a buck.

This is true but if it is a trans that doesn't seem bad I'd def get a second opinion if it just went but your typical female may not
notice things.

Your are probably correct and are a well respected member of tst, ig you know your stuff.......... but I am questioning if it's the trany at all and the integrity of the dealer I mentioned. They are realy being 'shaddy' about the situation (mumbling trany codes etc) and this car was running perfect before the issue, no slippage or trany issues what-so-ever. But alas, I dont know vw trany's at all. Maybe they work differently than the typical AT in the jap and domestic cars:roll: it just seems like its something electrical, to me. But he is deciding to keep it there instead of dealing with paying them the money they already have into the car (?), and having them finish the job.

Do you think If i hire a vw expert and take them over to the dealer they would let us look at the 'bad' removed trany?

How about if they change the trany and it is still broken? LOL. I just got word that YBH did that to someone and still tryed to cover it up. It also took them 4 trys to fix my brothers previous VW Jetta issue before they got it correct....SO dont ask me why he had it towed there....cause I sure as hell would not have, so im done with the situation for now. He gets what he deserves at this point.

That's rather unfortunate. In any case, tell him to switch dealers after the fact.
