View Full Version : SPEED: Bullrun Season 3, I'm on it!

Well, I've been sworn to silence until recently, but I made the show. Filming ended in October, and it was an absolute BLAST!!
I was the Navigator for Team Lexus, and my friend Tracy, was the driver. We drove a 92 Lexus SC300, with a full supra turbo engine and 6spd trans swap, with a GT4042 turbo, AEM standalone, and all of the supporting goodies. We had the car detuned for the show to handle 91 octane, but I believe it was making in the ballpark of 600hp.
It airs Friday, February 12th, at 10:30pm, and every Thursday evening after that, at 10pm, on SPEED. They just started showing some teaser commercials, but keep an eye out, you should be seeing some better commercials soon :)
Here's a few pictures that I can post for now... once SPEED starts releasing some of the video and photo's, I'll update here if anyone would like :)
Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you guys/girls! My boyfriend and I will be having a premiere party here in Easton, and anyone who wants is invited (it will most likely be 21+ only). I'll post up the location/time once we finalize it.

Ha... funny story.
So, I was contacted by one of the casting directors for season 1, back in 2006. I flew out to LA, had the interviews out there, scheduled pick-up of my 98 VR-4, with about an hour before the truck was due to arrive, I got a call saying they changed their minds, and chose another team. Bummer.
Season 2 rolled around, and I had changed my phone number, and found out later on, that they had tried to contact me to be on the show for season 2... I was SUPER pissed about changing my number, as you can imagine! Never the less, my friend Brooke, whom I auditioned with for Season 1, made it on the show for S2. She and her friend Amanda kicked ass in a Lexus IS300.
Season 3, I had given up hope, and had no car in running condition to audition with. I had planned to audition with my friend Jackie, but obviously that wasn't going to happen (no car, etc). So, I took a back seat and was just going to wait for Season 4. Well, I get a message from a friend, that this girl down in ATL needs a partner... her last 2 dropped out, and she needed a girl that could handle a 600hp car... I gave her a call, and less than 48 hours later, I was flown out to Cali to start filming. I had no time to prepare, or shop or anything (I would have preferred going there with some new clothes... but eh, wutcha gonna do? LOL)

So you got lucky and ended up not getting screwed by them, they are shadsters and Screwed the owners of the grey Evo that crashed. Since it's over I guess you didn't get screwed and you have your car I would never partake in something like that after I heard how they screwed the Evo owners. But hey I guess you had fun that's all that matters.

Now I don't know the final outcome of what happened with the EVO owners, but I'm assuming they didn't get it paid off after it was totaled. But can you really expect an insurance company to cover your car after you've beaten the hell out of it on national television?
evomike
11-29-2009, 07:42 PM
It had nothing to do with insurance companies, they never
got the car shipped back to them for a long time. I don't know complete details but they had started a thread on Evo
about it they kept getting dicked around by the producers about promises being kept about car transport, now I only know
the one side of the story but I know people who have done tv stuff and when you sign that contract you are theirs I def would stay away and just do a rally on my own time.

They signed release forms at the beginning of the show stating they can not hold the producers/Bullrun responsible for any damage done to your vehicles during filming... that you understand that damages may occur and you accept responsibility for it yourself.
They drive you through the course as MANY times as you want, and if you have any questions about which direction to go, they'll answer and explain it until you are comfortable and ready to go. It's unfortunate that happened to them, but they only have themselves to blame. Production didn't tell them to crash their car, the crashed it themselves.

All due respect, that is not how it happened when we filmed. First the contracts were absolutely unenforceable. You CANNOT contract away your rights to being kept safe and you CANNOT contract away gross negligence on the part of a production. The contracts were created to intimidate any wouldbe lawsuits in the case of anything going wrong. There was a lawsuit against Bullrun from Season 1 and they settled out of court.
In our case we ABSOLUTELY were not allowed to drive through the course "as many times as you want." The Bullrun producers may have learned from their mistake, I am not sure. As far as explaining the course until we were comfortable, well that is partly true. The problem was that we were driven up to the chain-link fence but not one time allowed to personally inspect the other side of the fence, nor were we in any way warned of the obstacles or which way to go after the fence. We were told to "stay on the course" but told that the course ended at the fence. Everything beyond the fence was a mystery until we learned the hard way...Once we totaled the car, and my Evo was lodged into the concrete block that was hidden behind weeds, it was clear to EVERYBODY that you better not go straight through the fence (the logical way when you are exiting a finish line.
We could have died. I wouldn't be combating the lies that Bullrun constructed if we were allowed to inspect and/or drive the WHOLE course. It was both negiligent and dangerous that they did not. They should have clearly marked the end of the course (cones/tape/whatever) if they wanted us to travel a certain way...The fact is they had very little experience coordinating stunts, the stunt coordinator was NOT a stunt coordinator, and the producers were hoping for a crash, so they didn't really care about the safety of contestants.
They left my car in New Mexico for 10 months, wouldn't tell me where it was, stuck me with the bill (+$,2000), extensively damaged my car with a forklift, still owe me money, and have never returned my personal property to this very day...They edited the footage to make us look as bad as possible because they were PISSED that I walked off set.
They are total scumbags.

Well, I'm glad you've taken the time to sign up here and set the story straight. I'm not saying Bullrun couldn't have taken extra steps to ensure the safety of the contestants and their vehicles (ie, letting you guys inspect the end of the course), but at the end of the day, the car was in your hands when it was wrecked. It is unfortunate what happened to you guys, and I'm sincerely sorry about your car. I'm not going to sit here and try arguing the details with you, because I'm sure there is a lot more involved than everyone else is aware of.
As Andy and David said to all of us, they can't make footage up, they use what you give them, and how they edit that is their discretion. You gave them the antics they were looking for, and they used it for every ounce of entertainment value they could get.

So, thanks for stopping by to milk as much attention from the as possible, and please leave my thread. 11-30-2009, 03:35 PM
I am glad you had a great time and I would never attempt to take that from you. I just want the record to be corrected and the accurate side to be told.
Indeed if you don't give them the footage they can't use it, and that never was my gripe. It was the manipulation of the results and the fact that they dropped the ball, intentionally or not, that led to our crash. We got robbed of the opportunity to win the race (assuming they were not manipulating the results). I contend they indeed were manipulating the results. There was no scientific way to accurately account for times, and they never explained how they came to their conclusions as to who came in when, or who won challenges. This secretiveness is more than suspicious, especially seeing what I saw...Not only did we clearly win the challenge we crashed in, but there were several other times where they claimed we came in after a driving leg at times that were obviously not true...Then on one leg we got to the finish line first and we were told that we didn't. It was untrue. On that same leg when we got to the finish we were told that Andy Duncan called the cops on us specifically, to get us pulled over, for the drama of it. I wouldn't have even imagined it unless I was told it by a couple production staffers and Team Strange...Hell, I suppose if I was Andy Duncan (a scumbag) I would love to orchestrate footage of Team Evo getting pulled over to make them look bad, or make sure they didn't win.
So, yes, they can't make footage up, but they can cut it out, or edit it, or massage it to create any story-line they so choose...and that is precisely what they did.

Its ridiculous to put all the blame on Bullrun though. If you watch that same video you can see that the car is getting trashed before they even hit the barrier. Yes the concrete did a huge amount of the damage, but why pretend to be driving a trophy truck and leave the course.
Also, the comments on the bullrun forum from other season 2 contestants are much more in line with that of the OP than of Team Evo. However I suppose that which was posted over there had some underhanded editing taking place as well.

Also, the comments on the bullrun forum from other season 2 contestants are much more in line with that of the OP than of Team Evo. However I suppose that which was posted over there had some underhanded editing taking place as well.
i'm not putting 100% blame on anyone. i wasn't there, and all i can see is the edited version of what has happened. regardless of whether or not the car was getting trashed before hand, simple matter is that that concrete "barrier" that was laying in the middle of overgrown grass should have been removed since it appears to be in a path straight from the exit line.
it also appears that every car on that show is going to be trashed during filming... its just what the show is.
there was certainly off course negligence on part of the TV crew concerning that chunk of concrete that i'm sure you can't see when you're bouncing all over the place coming through the fence with dirt everywhere. I'd be pissed too.
whether or not team evo are a bunch of assholes, douchbags and tools is not the point... because i haven't watched the show or read any content from them or the bullrun crew. i'm making my point based solely on what i saw in the video i posted earlier.

Overall I agree with you and was making the statement more in general than directly at you, but from what I've seen something seems off. The decision to go off-course is problem for me. You can see the rearview mirror pop off, the lower valance getting trashed, and most likely whatever else is up front, I'm assuming the intercooler, taking some substantial damage before the front of the Evo introduced itself to the concrete. There's a difference between a calculated risk of pushing hard and smacking a quarter on the barrels and crossing your fingers and driving into the unknown. If you're going to drive off-course into weeds or whatever where you can't see everything you have to be prepared for something like this to happen. I can't remember exactly since its been a while since season 2 aired and I followed that forum, but from what I recall the other teams were saying that they had ample explanations and Evo wasn't telling the whole story in their complaints.
After all the 'bama boys in the Avalanche decided to follow the course, yet the guys in the lowered car, rally based origins or not, decided to go off-roading. What would be the point be of taking the turn sideways in a 7000lb truck, as I remember the Avalanche crew raving about, if they weren't forewarned to stay on course. When you combine Team Evo's complaints, the rest of the teams' responses/comments, and the footage, edited or not, something isn't adding up.

Bla bla bladdy bla.
You car was never hidden, it was at Custom Craft Sante Fe, NM... wasn't some large secret. The producers wouldn't "not" allow you to not inspect the other side of the fence. I walked up to the fence.... checked it out for any obstacles etc... Maybe I'm just crazy, but when I see a clear dirt road to the left... and a bunch of overgrown weeds with unlevel ground to the right.... I for one want to stay on the road... as WAS pointed out to you ;-)
Your BS is endless Jason. I DID time you and Avalanche.... guess what? The avalanche won! Does take a rocket scientist to understand suspension travel is a beautiful thing when doing offroad courses :-p.
You can try and convince anyone and everyone you were cheated, and I'll always step up to set the record straight
But OH NO.... I MUST BE DEFENDING BULLRUN BECAUSE MY CAR DIDN'T GET FOCKED.... oh ****... wait.... my father's car did roll that day, a car I've spent countless man hours on to make beautiful and run like a raped ape.... must have been Bullrun producers fault.... oh wait, wrong again, it was OUR fault... driver error is driver error, commen sense is commen sense.
Maybe if you didn't walk off set, demanding for a plane ride home immediately (which you got) you could have set up the situation to get your car home (the car we could have fixed overnight if you were really serious)..... But how would I know that, I'm not a professional.... oh wait again, I AM a professional estimator  that's what I do all day every day. You really think your car was worse than our rolled over Dart? Guess again lol. Full body shop, frame rack, and more than enough hands to do whatever we wanted overnight. But my opinion doesn't count because I'm not a professional... what about the other professional that OWNS a body shop, for 20+ years might I add... my father completely thought it was repairable too, but oh no little Jason stormed off set to go home.... and here's the best part... just to have your Mommy call a couple days later to tell the producers how you are willing to come back on the show  Gee whiz, sure doesn't sound like you were too angry with them then.
So go on, I know you're going to come back and question everything I've typed, how this or that is rigged, unfair, how they're responsible for everything (funny how you still haven't taken action a year later). But I'm not going to respond. I think this post will be more than enough to set a straight record.
Keep spewing your BS, maybe you'll get a couple people to drink the kool aid... I really don't care. Because what I type is the TRUTH, and what happened that day. Or you could look on the Team-dart blog and I've typed it out there as well. Nothing to hide, just truth to get out there. And you're youtube war is very comical, you obviously have alot of time on your hands, it always makes for good reading :cyberguy:.
Sorry Girly for screwing up your thread, you're cool beans  Judging by your excitement after comming off the show obviously they've screwed you as well  This experience really a once in a lifetime deal, and is a blast. Hope you enjoy your 15 minutes of fame because it goes by fast.

Sorry guys...I must respond to this nonsense.
I for one want to stay on the road... as WAS pointed out to you ;-)
You are not being honest. We discussed nothing at the fence except the possible damage that the fence would do to our cars. We were never warned or instructed which way to go. You claim your father made mention which way to go, but I wasn't listening to your father as he was not directing the stunt. We were specifically told that the fence was the finish line and to carry as much speed as possible through it. Never any mention of any blocks or direction. If it was important we should have been clearly told which direction to go, and/or the direction should have been clearly demarcated with cones/tape/barrels...To claim we knew of the consequences of following the logical line -- STRAIGHT -- is both ignorant and illogical...You don't direct a contestant to go as fast as possible and then hang a hard left at a finish line. You would tell them specifically to slow down and inform them why...They DID NOT.
Your BS is endless Jason. I DID time you and Avalanche.... guess what? The avalanche won!
Please don't foist this nonsense upon people. You were nowhere near the race to view it. You base your timing on your ear. Nobody in their right mind would accept a blind man's opinion on who won, and you were blind for this event -- you weren't there to witness it with your own eyes...Team Ferrari was there and said we clearly won...Even the edited version of the aired episode shows us faster. There is no way you or Avalanche won...We F'n got four feet of air leaving that fence.
Maybe if you didn't walk off set, demanding for a plane ride home immediately (which you got) you could have set up the situation to get your car home (the car we could have fixed overnight if you were really serious)
I bought my own plane trip home. I had my mother call that day because I didn't have my phone as the Bullrun POS's refused to return it to me, and I told them I would return only if certain conditions were fully met. The car was totaled and it would have taken at least two days to fix as we would have had to source everything from an ACD pump, to intercooler, to control arm, EVERYTHING...The local Mitsu dealer didn't even carry Evos, let alone parts!...Every time you claim it was fixable overnight you look like an ignoramous. You make both you and your father look amateur.
Why do you pretend to know what you are talking about when you don't?
But I'm not going to respond.
Really? You just did.

I had a clear view of the starting line and finish line, I watched Chris crash your car, I watched you start... what's so hard about that to understand? And I have a stop watch, seem easy enough  Clear view, no obstructions in my way at all. You were Multiple seconds slower than the Avalanche, which is actually saying alot on a course that's around 3/8ths a mile.
And yes I do know what I'm talking about, should I scan and post my ASE, and Multiple I-CAR certifications? Or what about my business license for my Auto Damage Appraisal Company? LOL... oh yea who told you was wrong with your car's turbo?.... <---- This fockin guy... you sure seemed to know what you were talking about when you guys lost 100hp from your wastegate being stuck  Those hours spent at the bars explaining you how motors work and some horsepower logic, along with other people, is because I don't know what I'm talking about :banned:

Come on, Tony. You claimed that the production crew said you guys in the Dart were fastest around the course. You two were slow as molasses. The only driving error we made was after the finish line. We couldn't have driven that course any faster. There IS NO WAY POSSIBLE that either of you two won. Team Ferrari attests to this. They couldn't even edit the final cut to make us look slower (the final cut puts us fastest around the track)...When we left and when we arrived had another element you conveniently left out of your ridiculous assertion, that is the two pit stops along the way and the explosives/camera coordination that required more time and slowed down our run (we told them we were ready and they were talking on the walkie-talkie -- did you account for that?)...After we ran the course first the bugs and disorganization of the set was worked out. They slowed us down.

They were in the walkie talkies giving you the OK to ensure your safety. Just because you blazed through the driving the fastest, doesn't mean you lost a considerable amount on time running around and getting helmets on, etc.
Take this somewhere else, I'm honestly getting tired of your whining. It sucks about your car, but it's an easy fix, and you can have it shipped to Cali for probably around $500, and fixed for a few grand. Really? If they cared about our safety they would have explicitly warned us of the concrete block, they would have explicitly outlined the path going out the fence, they would have explicitly told us to slow down going out the fence, they would have put cones/barrels/yellow tape marking the direction and warned us clearly. They failed on all counts...They dropped the ball big time, but that is what happens when they have no experience at all in stunt coordination or organizing for safety.
Just because you blazed through the driving the fastest, doesn't mean you lost a considerable amount on time running around and getting helmets on, etc.
We lost little time and what time we lost we more than made up for in our driving time. We did take an extra 2-3 seconds as our driver was taking off his gloves to put the helmet on, but Team Av actually put on their helmet backwards and that cost them an equal amount of time...Download "season 2 episode 4" and even the video shows us faster.

I know how it goes, but I said my piece, and hung up the phone. I didn't blast Bullrun all over the internet for the next year claiming FRAUD, and threatening lawsuits. Suck it up, and move on. So, I was contacted by one of the casting directors for season 1, back in 2006. I flew out to LA, had the interviews out there, scheduled pick-up of my 98 VR-4, with about an hour before the truck was due to arrive, I got a call saying they changed their minds, and chose another team. Bummer.
Ahem... you mean MY 98 VR4???? :)

they contacted me and 2 of my girl friends through our myspace pages. I guess since I have like 900000 car pictures that may have had something to do with it. LOL
Back in 2006 one of the casting people also contacted me through myspace and also through another web page I had. Unfortunately, I couldn't do it because of school. It seems like it would have been a great time.

I thought Team Evo was awesome and they got robbed.
But I've never seen BullRun so my opinion is 10x more valid.
Eitherway it sucks that there aren't more pictures up.
It also sucks that the Lexus has 600hp but looks like a tube of KY Jelly.
But it is cool that you made it on the show.
Survivor would be cooler if they had 600 hp cars.
And pistols.
But for real. Congrats on the show.

AHAH I'm not sure whether to laugh or ignore your post. :bigeek:
I'm not a huge fan of the stock body styling on the SC until like 97'ish... it's a little too... boring I guess you can say. To each their own though, but I have to admit, it was a LOT more comfortable/fun to drive than I thought it would be.
It had a supra turbo engine/6spd trans swap, GT4042 turbo, aftermarket cams, AEM standalone, 1000cc injectors, exhaust, fmic, coil over suspension, etc. I don't know the rest of the specifics, but you get the point. :)

I just saw the episode where Team Mini get eliminated, and the leg of the race drives through the sierras and the very high altitude.
Just a note to Team Lexus, while I love your car, because I own one and their awesome, I was highly disappointed in the fact that the driver complained that with the pedal floored she could only achieve 20-25 mph at some points. I wondered at that point am I the only one who knows that when you change altitude severely like that you have to shut off the car and let the PCM power down and then restart so that it can take ambient temp, and air density readings to tell the PCM so it can recalculate fuel maps? When I heard her complaint I nearly cried because the fix is so easy.
I apologize if this approach was taken and just not shown on film, and the outcome was still that poor for performance, which is unlikely, but knowing that the PCM is an AEM standalone and not a factory setup the possibility is there.

I kind of agree with you, some of the cars seem out of place for a variety of reasons, degree of modifications included. Then again, if you go back and look at the other seasons, there has always been one or two that are like that. The stock cars usually end up being pretty good competitors too since they don't have to deal with headaches that tend to pop up for the exotics and more heavily modded cars.
Looks like Fios on demand is a little behind too. It shows the episode where Viper gets the boot to be the most recent. So much for thinking I was all caught up.

Is it just me or are there a whole lot more tools on the show than most seasons? And I'm not talking about wrenches.
Also, my guess is team challenger is going to take it because they seem to be in a meguiar's commercial... there are much cooler cars on bullrun that they could have picked to be in a commercial...
Also also, since I haven't been keeping up on these threads, I'd just like to say that I was sad to see the VW go home week 1, but alas, it turned out basically the only way you could assume it would; the Volkswagen acted Volkswageny.

That commercial was actually shot during this episode (episode 5). It's the newest "cool" car right now, so, that's probably why they chose it, same as Mustang last year. It was the new "it" car of the moment.

they never fed us lines, what you hear, is what came out of our mouths. Most of it is kept pretty much in context, some things are tweaked. We didn't call the cops, but for entertainments sake, it made for good TV to accuse us. Some things are slightly misrepresented, but overall what you see, is what happened, just missing a lot of the background action that led up to it. :)

Was sad to see you go (well just you, the driver was so spoiled and bratty/whiney).
That was a really dumb move for them to pick Team NSX...if they went with Team Hummer they woulda been toast on that course.

Once again, your driver was a f*cking b*tch. I'm sorry for the language, but jesus, can she just shut the hell up for a minute? Sure her car was fast. But if she can't drive it, what the hell does it matter?!

For the first time driving that car on that course, you tore it up! Way better than the normal driver did. Atleast you didn't hit the pole:) haha Good job making it that far!
