Anybody who buys a used Evo, especially a modded one, must hate money.

Plenty of kids will throw money away on a used evo.

At least there is no question whether it's been abused.

What happened to that z meet you were having? I was up in Hackensack for a huge Nissan meet earlier this month.

I bought my GSX used and lightly modded with 121,000 miles and I've been dailying it for 2 years now. It has had minor burps, but otherwise it is all how you maintain it.

That's probably the dumbest comment I've ever heard. You have just as good of a chance buying a beat car any make any model. You have a greater chance with a modded car but that's why before you buy it you put it up on a lift, check it out, look under the hood, research what's done, and drive it, then make your desicion. The problem is most idiots just drive the car and never take it to a mechanic to see what's up or if you know enough do it yourself. In the end if you're dumb enough to buy a car without checking it out then you deserve to get the car that blows up right after you buy it.

It poored that whole weekend when it was supposed to happen. Now that I don't live in the area anymore, its hard to reschedule something like that.

Unless you personally know the previous owner, its a poor decision. You don't know if everything was torqued down to spec when installed, how it was tuned, how many times it was launched, etc. Every single Evo owner I know ended up selling or trading it in once it became to much of a headache. I've even seen those cars on the dealer's lot after my friend traded it in. Car looked immaculate on a lift too. Unless you know the car, and know the work done on it, you don't know how solid it is.

I'm not singling out Evos either, its just a great example. I love them! You can't tell me you don't know of anyone who sold their car because of something that they didn't want to deal with, but told the new owner that it ran perfect. That's why its usually a very bad idea to buy a previously modded car, and something like an Evo has a higher potential for something to go wrong.

It's hardly a bad idea. If you're someone who doesn't know how to wrench on a car then yes it's a very bad idea. If that's the case for you then it's understandable. I'd but an Evo modded in really good condition. Who cares if your boys beat the cars. You test drive the car and especially if you're buying it from a dealer you say I'm gonna take it and put it on a lift. Check out the underside, check out the trans fluid, oil. There are so many small things to look for when buying a modded used car. If it's a well maintained car chances are it's probably a decent buy. Just because some kid launched it 20 times doesn't mean it's going to break when you buy it. That's just horrible logic.

It doesn't have seats and the engine bay is mega dirty I'd bet it was in a flood and not reported.

Exactly lol. My buddy bought a used Evo from a dealership with mods and it broke down like 3 days after he got it. Oh lets not forget he payed 25g for it too.

My friends beat the **** out of their DD more than their main cars. So in a sense, I guess its stupid to buy any car used? Maybe its just the people you hang out with, but the people that I am around on a daily basis, and the people my family associates themselves with take very good care of their high end cars. Just because it has performance modifications, doesn't mean its seen the end of its days. Just because people are enthusiasts, doesn't mean they are wreckless assholes. My best friends dad has a 500hp 04 STI and that thing doesn't see speeds past 65mph. I would buy it in a heart beat. When hes ready for something new, someone will buy it, and have an awesome machine, while the 20 people who told them not to get it, sit there and watch.

You have clearly never purchased something that ended up being a nightmare. Your view on this will change once you do, and by the looks of it that day may come sooner than expected! lol. Good luck my friend.

So than I guess I can assume you are nothing more than a typical scum of the earth kind of guy. I say that because your sig shows numerous cars you have sold, and by your logic, I can only assume they were all POS headaches that you apparently ripped someone off by selling it to them.

So never buy used? Buying used is a lame thing to do. You lose so much money the first year. Buying used is a better financial choice. Sucks you don't get all these nightmares. Sounds like you drive and buy. Should have learned by now.

No. I was skrewed over on my DSM and spent a FORTUNE fixing it. I was a dumb high school kid at the time and thought that I couldn't go wrong with a 20k mile Mitsubishi no matter who owned it last, boy was I wrong. I'm trying to help people by not making the same mistake.

Obviously I buy used, look at the years of cars I've owned. Always with a warranty now unless its something I'm just getting to toy with and don't need to rely on, such as my Z32's. By luck of the draw they ended up being reliable, but I knew the previous owners of them and how they were treated. My 2nd one was modded and I still had low expectations.

Of course buying used is a good idea. I know a lot of early 90's cars that are more reliable than some brand new ones. Basically what I'm trying to say is, if you need something to get you to work/school everyday, don't buy a modified car, especially something like an Evo that probably isn't under warranty anymore, unless you know the owner or are getting a rediculous deal.

He's not ... I probably wouldn't buy an evo with too many miles without knowing the seller, but they seem to be as reliable as you get with modded cars.

I always wanted an sti/legacy GT, but they seem too fragile to go over 150K stock let alone modified.

My 300zx is chipped and runs a few more PSI 9.5 stock vs 13.5 and it has been reliable (almost 10 years), but I take care of it.
