Hi Guys,
I am looking to buy a specific 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 off of Craigslist, and I have been talking to the seller for a little bit. The car has very low mileage for a 10 year old car (48,000). It will be my first car if I decide to buy it. The trouble is though, that the seller is wanting $6,000. The car has a KBB Value of around $3,300. The seller claims to have a custom exhaust for $2000, Cold Air Intake for $215, HID Headlights for $400, Performance Chip for $300, and spark plugs for $100. And the seller also has a few other mods, and in total they say that its all around $4000 without labor.

The car had 4 owners, one of them being a dealership that just bought it at an auction and sold it to the current owner. If the carfax link works it will show you that the car was in two accidents, one of which didn't even require a police report, and the other was a semi-severe accident.
Now, lets say I go to see it, and have it brought to a garage for a Pre-Buy Inspection and everything checks out perfectly, and all the mods truely are the price that they say, how much would this car be worth?
If you need anymore info, let me know and I will try to get it.
Thanks!

id say blue book or below blue book, if its been in 2 accidents (serious accidents at that) you don't know what could be wrong with it, i would pass and move on to the next car. that and modifications don't add to a cars value. there is no way that the exhaust on that car cost 2,000 ask him for receipts if you want but id still pass.

Tell the seller mods don't add value.

spark plugs arent a mod.
a "digital horsepower chip"... guess thats better than an analog chip?
2k on an exhaust is bs
ugly car. you can do much better for your first car for less money. but if youre set on it, offer 3k or walk away

The seller keeps saying they want 6,000 for it, and I just keep laughing in my mind over it. That would never happen, even if all the mods were 4 grand, they should still only expect 1 grand out of it, if anything. I'm thinking that I am going to go up there and take a look, and offer them a max of 3.5-4, and then walk if their not happy with it, cause within a few weeks after that Ill probably be getting a call that they want to sell it for that much haha.

if you pay 4k for a car with a kbb value of 3300 i might have to fly down to philly to slap you. its a pontiac, the brand doesnt even exist anymore because of cars like the grand am. dont overpay. im sure there are plenty of other cars that will better suit you

I'd offer $3k, tell them their mods don't add value to the car, if anything it just shows you they probably beat on the car and as such, you'll offer them less than KBB.
You're not buying it as a favor to them.

I wouldn't even offer 3k for that car. 2k the most despite the mileage which i highly doubt it's true.
I say forget about this car and keep looking. You can find something much better than that.

Like everyone else here... Don't offer the book value. Are you kidding me? $6K? Why do you even want it? You can find a lot of nice cars for $3K...

sounds about right for the miles... talk him down to 5500 and id say its pretty decent deal. they're good cars but once u boost them make sure you do the transmission first than valve springs.

Man I've owned my GA for quite awhile now, Never really had to maintain it but changing oil every 3,000 miles, even boosted I've never had problems nearing 16K i finally blew transmission up.. 116k with original transmission. and I finally blew a headgasket. Personally These cars are really easy to work on and keep running. You guys are just haterzzzzzz.
