Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a GPS for my bike and was looking for anyones personal experience or advice. Any model/brands to avoid? Certain ones with better features? There's like a million of 'em out there and I could just pick a Garmin, or somthing, but if anyones got any good advice I'd appreciate it, thanks.

I bough the cheapest one money can buy, and it works just fine. Granted, it may not be as refined as some others, can't find the cheapest gas, ect... but you would spend more money getting to a cheaper gas station then just going to the one you are close to anyway lol.

It gets me from A-B when I put addresses in it, so it works just fine.

anyone ever have a car gps and been caught in the rain? all ive seen is pricy bike gps and cheap car gps, but if i get a car one i doubt its waterproof so id hate to get caught with it in rain (then again i prolly should be going anywhere that i might need gps if its gonna rain lol)

exactly, just keep a ziplock bag under your seat in case it starts to drizzle and you are fine.

I never would have thought of it before, but a friend of mine uses his car one on his duc, and it was really cool for just random exploring. You could use the map to find the twisty roads, and when it starts to get late, just punch in "home". You don't have to plan every detail of a trip, just ride. I guess cheaper probably is better tho, like you said about the rain, plus it would most likely see much more vibration on my bars than on my center console, so who knows how long one would last.

actually i was thinking of getting a tank mount. wonder how bad the vibration would be then but i assume less than handlebars?

Is that a custom mount or a specific product?

yes its a custom set-up i set up on my bike and did my boyz R1 in his stock mirrors (i made my carbon mirrors) his turned out even cleaner!

eh but some of us actually use the mirrors :\

haha, i hear ya... as you can see in the pix the other mirror is a wideview rearvision which i can record to portable dvr, always looks weird in pix but the picture is super clean, ill find a good vid of some recorded rearvision!
gonna be cool for the track!!

yea, at first i just thjought it would be trick but after having the nav ill never ride without one, finding specific places/gas stations and dunk;n donuts in other cities is a breeze!! also the nav gives you your max speed, average speed ect... thats handy!

and one advantage to the rearvision besides recording is while hanging off the bike you still have a perfect view of whats behind you, you must be centered for regular mirrors show the rear, so while hanging off mirrors are useless until your back centered on bike, the rearvision is always perfect no matter what angle your looking at the screen!

Pretty slick GPS idea there. I wouldn't mind getting one for my bike but that is low on my list of things I want for it.

I didn't have the want for a separate Garmin GPS since I have a Garmin Nuvi 750 already. If you don't have a GPS, definitely do what Joe said and go with the Garmin Motorcycle Specific ones. If you already have a GPS, just get a nice mount & kit for it.

I ordered this waterproof and lockable mount:

http://www.gpscity.com/ram-mount-waterproof-aqua-box-6-motorcycle-brake-mount.html

And this hardwire kit for it:

I will post up photos once it arrives & is installed. Should be here by Thurs or Fri.

I had a Nuvi on my K7, it was a regular car model with a bike hardwire kit, I just bolted it to my windscreen, worked great, if I got off the bike just took the unit out of the mount and put it in my pocket
