I don't get why people just wouldn't take the floormat out or get a new one?

LMAO really? I see it has a hole in it to stay to the floor? does this not work well? i know there are ones in mine that clip itself the the floor and they stay pretty planted.

I have only seen the clip in one's in VW's, my SRT has a little "hook" on the driver side and the passenger has nothing

my subaru has the hook as well. but this is a joke, the floor mats recalled are the winter ones, thick rubbery ones. not the carpeted ones.
it's still humorous though.

Well I work for lexus and i'm not sure you guys know the story behind this. A lexus loaner car in cali had a winter mat on top of the regular floormat, a family was driving the car and the rubber mat made the accel. pedal get stuck. Everyone in the car died. It's a little odd to me that the man driving was a state trooper and didn't think to put it in neutral, nor did the police operator on the phone. We actually tried this on thursday but even flooring an ES and slamming on the brakes the car stopped so something seems a little fishy to me

So far what we have been told to do is check the floormats on every is/es that come's through the shop and make sure the clips are installed properly and the mat is secure. If the customer has an a/m mat in the car we must take it out and put it in the trunk.

That picture above is only being done to new cars until they redesign the floormat.

Here is the story: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZWPItpu2bM

I'd REALLY love to know how they came to the conclusion that it was the floor mat that caused the accident when everyone in the car died and the car was wrecked. Either way, the zip tie is clearly a temp solution. You can't expect them to either stock close to 4 million new floor mats, or rip out the interior of all the cars to replace the carpets. This has happened several times in my car with aftermarket mats. I usually just put it in neutral and shut off the engine.

I wonder if it had something to do with the electronic throttle control. I never was a fan of having my Throttle bottle controlled electronically. I mean what would happen if a wire shorted out and it defaulted to 100% WOT?

My cars don't even have a clip, hook, or velcro to keep the floor mats in place however I can't see how the floor mat would even be able to get up high enough off the floor and push my gas pedal down.. interesting i say.

You put it in neutral!!! There is no lockout on the ES as well as most other cars from ever putting it into neutral no matter what speed you are going or where the pedal is

lol @ throttle bottle

Yeah I don't get why he didn't put it in neutral. They had enough time to call 911 but couldn't figure out neutral? Although, from what I understand he couldn't turn the engine off because of the new keyless key fob system. Either way it sucks for everyone involved. All future Toyota/Lexus should mount the pedal to the floor, like many automakers do. Nothing getting stuck under it then.

If my new car had that I am pretty sure I would get the "optional floor mat" charge removed from invoice.

If the wires shorted out the motor that operates the throttle plate would not have power and shut. If the TPS read WOT and the throttle plate is closed it would run rich as hell for a few seconds and stall out.

The throttle plate motor are designed that in a failure the the plate closes.

Why didn't I think of this? My floor mat clip is broken and the mat loves to slide under my pedals...

thats pretty crazy, something kinda does sound fishy with that story tho, he had enough time to call 911? I like the zippie tie trick, Im supprised they havent mastered the whole floormat thing yet. Mine in my 540 hook in better then some peoples hoods lol i think i have 4 clips on both fronts and both rears.
