I have an idea that should catch on quickly. In the "Cars For Sale" section theres always that person, or in some cases a group of people who will say "you'll never get that much but GLWS" . Sometimes the person is just ignorant and sometimes the person is actually right:bigeek:

So, what I'm thinking is if your curious about a car your looking at and how much it goes for post it here. DON'T MAKE SENSLESS REPLIES. If you have a reason or proof to back it up thats fine.

Include the following:

Make:
Model:
Year/Generation:
Mileage:
Trans:
Condition :
And anything else you think is relevant

I'll start this off. I know what a lot of cars sell for; but i'll start with something I'm looking into and have no clue about it.

Make: Porsche
Model: 944 Turbo
Year: 1986 (I don't know the generation they fall into)
Mileage: Over 100k
Trans: 5 Speed
Condition: Good body, good motor. Has been off the road for 2 years so it probably needs some work.

I have been looking for about a week now and the price seems to vary greatly:eek: Anywhere from 2k or so for one that needs a lot of work and in some cases over 10k.

Anyone with some input on these cars chime in.

This should be fun. Try to stay on topic so its not filled with a bunch of Bull ****.

Good estimate. This specific one I'm looking at is listed for 5k. I'm trying to search to get a better idea what they sell for.

For the 944 turbo. My dad sold his 1990 Porsche 944 S2 for $6995 when he got his carrera. it was in great condition but with like 140K on it. we bought it a 2 years earlier for $10k.

For a good condition 944 turbo ur looking at $5-$17k depending on year and miles.

They are godly expensive to fix, over 100K is asking for work now or really soon down the line. it's been sitting for 2 years... I'd say $2500. Don't buy it unless you want a project car.

What does the S2 mean?

944 S2

In 1989 944S2 was introduced, and powered by a 211 PS (155 kW; 208 hp) 3.0 L engine. The 944S2 had the same rounded nose and a rear valance found on the Turbo model. The S2 was also available as a cabriolet, a first for the 944 line. Performance was quoted as 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds (0-100 km/h 6.4 s), with a top speed of 240 km/h (150 mph) (manual transmission). When it comes to specific cars like the 944 turbo prices are going to vary greatly as you mentioned. I think this is because its a "passion car" meaning its easy to find someone willing to pay more because of what it is and not based off of year and mileage.

Someone who has passion for their car will usually ask more for it and to tell you the truth I'd rather buy from them (If I could) cause I know the car was treated good because they know what they have.

Someone who doesn't have passion for the car will usually ask less and even if the car looks good I would think the car was prob. treated like it was any ol car and getting oil changes was a pain and used cheap oil, they would use 89 oct., that unseen rattle can be ignored, etc etc.

I always say the price of a car and what its worth is up to the owner and the buyer. Nothing pisses me off more then these non buying price cowboys on forums that usually never have a car that's modified or even worth looking at in a passionate way (but they are pro's).

If your looking to buy a 944 I would seek out some 944 based forums rather then here which is filled with un-professional opinions/responses as you've seen.

(Now I'll be spending a couple hours searching 944's haha! thanks)

Also, sometimes when you sell a car you just have to hold out for the right buyer. I also usually don't list cars on forums because you always get some sort of comments (I sometimes have feedback also, so I am guilty of that too lol). Last year I sold my 2001 honda s2000 with gpw and red/black interior, 31k on the clock. No accidents, mint everywhere. I was asking 18k firm, I held out for 1.5 months when a kid came up with cash. But before that I had low balls of like 14k, 13k, even 10k and they would always say but I saw this other s2k for that price and my reply would be then go get that one, I'll keep this car for 8 years if I have to.

My M3 is also, when I tried to sell it people were asking 10k, ridiculous.

Moral of the story is if your car is worth it and you know it's worth it then someone will definitely buy it for your price. Can't be an outrageous price though lol

I would think your 996TT is worth between $40-45K. Quick sale would be $38K.

For your M3, I would pay $20-24K

I think my assessment is not bad :D

Condition : Very good, some stone chips on the front, no dents, no curb rash on wheels.

I want to trade for a Integra Type R, a nice, clean SR-swapped S14, or MKIV NA Supra (Why not another one, lol)...

As for the 911 Turbo I don't have a clue. As for the m3 I agree with Marshall. I've seen some as low as 17k and they go up from there.

Something else important I think we should mention when listing a car is if its For Sale BY OWNER or Dealer.

I had one of these Mike. Price is VERY dependent on service documentation and maintenance performed. Timing belts service is every 30k on these cars. I sold my 87 w/ 140k for $4500 w/ recent TB service. $5k isnt bad as long as it's in good condition and has some documentation. PM me if you need any more info.

EDIT...just noticed that it sat for 2 years. I would definitely lowball it based on you needing to go through the entire car.

Chris
