I actually like it.. I'm not a huge fan of one car Company using another's drivetrain but the car itself looks good! I would like more info on the drivetrain though, would be interesting to see if its going to be the turbo 2.5L, maybe a H6, or both offered. I Also want to know if the RWD trans/rear diff/axles from it will bolt up to my EJ20
Good find

I really dig it as a concept car. Most concept cars have crazy looking interiors that never make it anywhere near production so I pretty much ignored this one.

I find that to be a very odd thing to say.
The most exciting cars in the world are from car makers who don't even make there own motors. The list is just endless.
Aston Martin-uses Jaguar
Lotus- Has used just about everyones motor but likes the toyota motors currently. First Elise had rover motors.
Pagani uses Mercedes
Ascari uses BMW
Bugati uses VW
Volvo uses the subaru motor as well.
Ford has used Mazda and Suzuki in the past. Ford Escort Cosworth is really a mazda 323 motor.
The most popular motor used in Britan for the last 40 years is the rover V8 which is really a buick V8.
Back the the car I think it's to little to late. I think the new 370z is much nicer looking and will probably outperform this car. I imagine that is who this car is targeted at.
But hey I live right near the toyota dealer. I pass is every day and look at it and shake my head. They don't have a single interesting car. Glad to see that will change.

It will start ~$20K... How many 370z's do you know start @$20K? This car is aimed towards the Civic Si and Gen Coupe type cars. THIS IS NOT the next Supra. The Supra competed with the Vette/GTR/300ZX in the 90s.

oh sweet a 370z look-a-like, I'm disappointed. Car looks cool and the interior is interesting but it just looks waayy to close to the 370z. If i were a car company i would make the new sports car or any type car look nothing like anything else on the road. You have to be able to see the car from 50 yards away in dim/moderate light and be able to differeniate your product from another companies.
IMO it looks too run of the mill

The car will never get produced. Toyota makes cars that get from A to B with no fun. Thats their motto.

That has changed ever since their new CEO stepped in. They want to bring back excitement to their line up... If this and the LF-A are produced ~there will be two more slots they need to fill in their sporty line up. One to compete with the 370Z-like cars and another to compete with the GTR/Vette

Like I said I live right near the toyota dealer. I walk buy and I am just amazed at the sea of boring cars.
I think they will build it. They need to bring some excitement back to the brand.
Now I really wish subaru would build a car to take on the lotus. The motor is perfect for a mid engine car and they have never made one. I'd put a WRX motor in my 914 but it doesn't sound nearly as good as a air cooled 911 motor. So I pay 10 times the price for the same power. Logic be dammed.

This looks way to Scionish to wear a Toyota badge. But then when I think of present Toyo, I think boring, old, grey, slow...
I think I like the exterior, the interior tho... eh maybe it could grow on me?
The shiftknob and ebrake handle just sit our like sore thumbs though, I would expect a interior like this to have a slappy shifter setup. Looks way to advanced to need to move your hands. Although now-a-days seeing anything offered with a stick is nice.

I'm very aware that many car manufactures use drive trains from other Companies, I'm also aware of why they do it. I just don't like it when they do then take credit for the technology just because they bought it. I can understand using a sensor, a starter, or basic engine accessories but a whole engine to me is them cutting too big of a corner. I understand manufacturing, cutting costs, and Business but for something like what this car is supposed to be (Toyota bringing back the fun) it should be based on their designs 100% to remind us that Toyota still got's it.
I still like the car as a whole, just wish it was all Toyota (built not bought)

so true it hurts. their last "sporty" cars were the mr2 spyder and the celica gts.

I Could definately see this as being badged as a scion. And thats not a bad thing since Scion is Toyota's youth spocom oriented brand. But if you think about it, teh car doesn't have a place anywhere else BUT Scion. Lexus wouldn't approve of the price or the 6spd (even though the lines on the car closely resemble lines from an IS250), and Toyota wouldn't approve of anything having less than 4 doors and sporty.
And as for the new CEO of Toyota trying to go back to sporty fun cars, he has his work cut out for him. Even the former CEO realized it would take so much work to shift the brand from an affordable efficient company to a sporty company (almost like Acura but cheaper) so he just MADE a new company based under Toyota and called it "Scion".
but overall, I like the car alot. The interior will never look like the concept, and I'm not sure where it will fit in under the umbrella of Toyota based cars, but I really like the car. And the price is awesome too.

Remember guys that at one point Toyota did have a nice stable of fun cars at the same time~ the MR2, Celica, and Supra. This would not only fit the company, but also start to fill in the gaping holes in their fun car line up. I wish it was a turbo I-4 though

I didn't read any of this discussion, but I just wanted to say this: This is the first car I have seen in a while that I absolutely love. I haven't seen anything I don't like about it. I hope they make it.

"Subaru’s 2.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-four ‘boxer’ engine will add to the coupe’s low centre of gravity that will aid handling. It will be mated to a six-speed manual."
?!?!? Ugh. Why even make it. The 2.0L NA boxer is a sloth. I don't care if the car weighs 2000lbs. YAY Toyota. Lets build a good looking RWD car and stick grandpa's engine in it. I hope they reconsider the power plant prior to production.

amen brotha
the front end, and the interior will get heavily watered down before going into production (assuming they keep with the styling at all). you can tell its way too early in its "im a concept" styling.
i dont understand why theyd call up subie for an engine when their 1.8l celica gts engine would be fine, or even their 2.4l engine. i guess run the boxer engine for handling and balance?
they better offer a twin clutch paddle shift as well.
i can see this going against the 4 cyl gencoupe, hopefully nissan and mazda bang out something of the sort soon too.
hyundai struck gold with a market that has been begging for love for years

Everything i've read says this is a 'production concept'... expected to hit dealers in 2011. Also looks like it will be in the new Grand Turismo as well.

My regional Subaru rep was here today. I'M gonna hold out for OUR AWD TURBO model. Subaru aparently doesn't want to rain on Toyotas parade when they release theirs. It SHOULD be available by my midlife crisis!

^exactly...This is just the Toyota version. I expect Subaru's version to eventually have a turbo option (although aftermarket kits are already available for N/A 2.0/2.5s), but I'm not sure the Sub version will have awd. The front wheels look too far forward for Subaru's traditional awd system...unless you've heard different Rob? Perhaps they have a different front end in the works?

I don't know why you posted that at all. I was referring to the fact that when the R32 hit the scene, it swept every big race for over 3 years until Porsche bitched and had them banned from the series. Im not bashing your supra fan boy, all im saying is that the Skyline is a more successful racecar than the supra.
