Another video, the camcorder battery went dead after my first 2 runs and I reversed them so that the first run of mine you see is actually my second run of the event where I had picked it up a bit but was still slow and the second run in the video was actually my first run of the day where I was learning the layout and is stupidly slow. If nothing else, you get to see the difference in my lines as I learn the layout :)

Yo john, were paving a section of my back yard thats gonna double as an rc track. so hopefully with a place to practice i can get enough experience under my belt. that way, by next year's peak meet season, ill get my soon to be drift happy r40 down to the rooftop of the garage.

im already halfway decent, but the car ive been trying to drift with is built more for unreasonably high speed straight runs than sideways driving. we brought the 4-tec(other car) to a track down in millville last year, and it got clocked at 79.22 mph. and i brought it to sports authority one week, but that didnt end too well. hit a pothole at about 60, went airborne, and almost hit a mustang.

EDIT: Soon to be sideways. Its missing a few necessary parts tho.

Interesting post made by an engineer at Borg Warner turbos regarding the new billet wheel technology. I know of a certin somebody on here was considering a billet wheel turbo, just some food for thought

In general... yes, we can make anything if you want to pay for it :) In the performance and/or racing world though, there is really no benefit to using a "billet" CW other than it's shinny. Basically, billet, or FMW (Forged Milled Wheel) compressors came about due to OE applications requiring them. When a turbo is constantly being cycled from high speed to low speed, the wheel becomes fatigued and can eventually lead to a hub burst (CW splits in half). Imagine the compressor acting like a big drag slick like you see on top fuel cars; during the burnout, you can see them get skinny and "grow" in height... On a much smaller scale, the CW sees this same process over and over again, and over time this weakens the wheel, eventually leading to a fracture and possibly a hub burst. Now ask your self how many times you've seen a race car's CW split in half... I have never, and I've seen a LOT of failures. Even the billet aluminum isn't enough in some newer applications and we've turned to titanium which in its FMW form, is nearly indestructible. I've heard all the propaganda surrounding the billet wheel myths: higher boost capability, higher flow, higher efficiency, etc... The higher boost capability is the only one which is true, but not because it's machined and not true for racing use. OE diesel applications using FMW compressors can run higher boost pressures more reliably simply because they are less susceptible to fatigue as they're cycled from higher speeds (required to make more pressure) to low speeds.
So, why would anyone offer a billet wheel to the racing/performance market? Couple/three reasons:
- Some people just want them because they look really nice... and are willing to pay the cost difference.
- Because it already exists in an OE production application and it's easily installed into performance turbos, sometimes they're even interchangeable with existing cast wheels.
- Applications where a cast wheel does not exist (maybe a larger inducer is needed) or production volumes are believed to never be high enough to justify tooling costs.
Are they cheaper than cast wheels? ...NO. Even in high production volumes, a billet wheel will always be more expensive than a cast wheel. However, if a company wants to make a compressor all their own (not using an existing "big" turbo manufacture's wheel ie. BW, Garrett, Holset) it would most likely be cheaper as they would have to tool up to make all the cast versions. If a company makes a mistake in the design of a billet wheel, they can simply keep changing the program until they get something that works... The OE manufacturer does all the development work up front to arrive at the best possible design for what's needed. Once the design is finalized, a "master wheel" is machined and used for the tooling master... that's right, all cast wheels get their start from a very nice billet wheel that when tooling is made, creates the same exact performance characteristics in a much cheaper and faster to produce cast version.
Phew... Sorry for the long-winded explanation, but hopefully this helps explain why billet wheels exist. Short version is billet wheels are no better than cast wheels for any performance or racing application I'm aware of... but they sure do look great!

my truck has about 165whp, auto, weighs 4655lbs dry, and has 172,xxx miles on the original motor, and it puts the power down through a eaton limited slip diff. all that into consideration, my rwd truck doesn't have the balls to pull a decent burnout, not to mention get/keep it sideways.

now if a had another vehicle to dd, and a couple grand to throw a jasper crate motor, a 5 speed, and like the DTS stage 1 turbo kit, plus sum MAJOR driver mod, then i could see blazer vs fc, but for now, my best bet is prob the rc lol

The reason for the increased performance is that the fully machined billet technology allows for aerodynamic improvements that could not be applied to older compressor technologies. I've done alot of reasearch on the subject also, more specifically precisions new billet compressor line such as the 6262, but its very hard to distinguish between propaganda used to sell turbos and facts. It seems to me that its very hard to get exact specs from precision.

I believe that there need to be a test preformed where the only variable would be the billet wheel. Such as running a turbo like blouches dom series on the dyno, and then the only change mad for the next run would be to swap in the billet wheeled counterpart...

see the only facter in that is that blouch new turbo (dom series) also upgraded the hotside at the same time as the billet wheel and tests have been done but not wit the old hotside..the new setup put out better power and top end wit the new hotside but lags wit the old wheel..now they then installed the new billet and it picked up the spool by about 700 rpms if i remember right. so IMO i think it worth it if they give u a good deal like i know a person that got one on here and its worth a shot and i dont think the billet makes it less stronger at all

Honestly, you don't need power to "get angle".

I can throw the BMW to full lock with an Open Diff, Auto Trans, Minimal Power and Pig-Like weight. The secret to drifting with a lack of power is to use what you do have as a substitute for power, in your case I would just throw the Truck in hard and the second I felt the rear end get out due to the weight transfer I'd bury the throttle.

Not that I'd suggest you do that due to the increased risk of roll-over, it can be done, especially in the rain.

okay so here is an update on the 240. The shell is pretty messed up so today the bodyshop guy is going to call me to tell me if it's worth fixing or should i just get another shell. I already am talking to a guy with a 240 shell for 650. It seems in good condition.

MR2 is an acronym (kinda) meaning Midship Run-About 2 seater.

And MR-S means Midship Run-About Spyder (Spider) meaning convertible.

And I did that without looking it up, and also recited that little bit about MR2 and MR-S nomenclature from memory because I wanted one in High School after reading the volume of Initial D where Takumi battles the guy with the SW20 MR2 so I did a crap load of research on them - not to mention I learned a bunch of crap from my brother.

Also, if I remember correctly, there are some AW11 (and maybe SW20?) MR2 Badges that actually say "Midship Runabout" on them along with the Praying Mantis logo.

SO the miata is to low to the ground I dont have any acess to a lift and man is it a pain getting on the ground to fix something, there fore im most likely going invest in one of theese, it seems like a pretty logical desicion. True, I forgot the hard launching involved in your style of driving mixed with wide wheels and tires would probably cause you to hook too hard, therefore resulting in broken STi and sad Cepa.

5 x 114.3 (4.5). IIRC, they're like a +30 offset and 18 x 9J

What are you going to put them on? A honda? I think just about anything else (That isn't FWD or an MR2) would need a spacer.

Anyone heard that Mitsubishi is bring a new "B Segment" car to the US?

It's going to be marketed under the "Colt" name tag and looks pretty sick, it's definitely drawn inspiration from the most Current Lancer and Evo-X. Not to mention that there's already pictures of one in Ralliart Trim which leads me to believe it may come in Turbo (And AWD?) sometime down the line.

Maybe it's finally time for a 2-Door Hatchback Evo?

JM, maybe it's time for you to ditch the idea of building a 4G63 Colt and start saving some coin for one of these guys? We all know if it comes with a Turbo variant that you'll be able to net 50hp with Bolt-ons and a Reflash, then on top of that add some more low and some cool wheels and you'll have a car thats hard to beat - with a warranty.

We've seen similar cars with questionable styling (Toyota Yaris, Scion xA, xD, Honda Fit) be hits in the American Market.

I feel that the aggressive, maybe even overly aggressive, styling gives it something that none of it's competitors will have. It's also going to be fuel efficient, probably relatively safe, have a decent bit of practical cargo space (4-Door Hatch), and it's going to be cheap so it'll more than likely be hit a hit with younger consumers.

And, IIRC, I don't think there's ever been a 2-Door Evolution from the Factory. All of the 2-Door Evo's you've probably seen are conversions made by transplanting the Evolution 1, 2, 3 or 4 (I think those are the Chassis) Drivetrain onto a Mirage shell.

There is the possibility of a 2-Door Evolution Based on the Evo X chassis (Which would mean there would also be a Lancer coupe) to compete with the Rumored WRX coupe planned to enter the market in 2010/2011 (Not to be confused with the ToyoBaru coupe).

my buddy has a 89 dodge colt gt.. i know its like mix between mitsubishi,dodge, and something else i can't think off the top of my head. but that new colt is pretty neat aside from not being the most likable looking.
