That Supra is too rad for the streets.
Def agree, because of the type of **** that happened to james, is why i couldnt justify keeping my 91 VR4 with 46,000 original miles :(

No body mods needed. The turbo 2Gb Eclipse has flawless styling.
lair i see a homedepot lip!

I just see it has a wanna be supra. Even loving dsm's
It is the wannabe supra, mitsubishi even went as far as creating the 7bolt engine just so it could be notorious for excessive thrust bearing wear resulting in crank walk similarly to the 2JZ :P

Lmao. Dustin the resident hater. I <3 you.
I wouldnt really call him a hater, more like a kid thats ill influenced by lowrider magazines, and if the car isnt dropped to the point of exhaust scraping the ground "IT NEEDZ MOAR LOW"

That one is actually a 180.

Still awesome none the less.

Got some pretty e-famous cars there. Nice work.

Also, the 240-TA sucks, but the other cars make up for it.

Yep, expected you to say this. But I was talking about the fast&furious, nfs phase.

If that's what you were talking about then why didn't you say it?

Also, I doubt you could actually predict a response from me, I'm pretty random.

Its a 240 with alot of cosmetic work.

No it's not.

It's an S15 Silvia.

Look at the rear quarter glass.

Yeah, not influenced by low rider magazines, just influenced by cool cars, both IRL and on the net.

Also, Ciotti can't be resident hater if he don't post on here no more.

Just to let you in on a little of whats going on in the 240 world, since you are asking.
Bricks/sil fronts used to be cool, but are now looking like ass.
That style and era has moved on.
the S14 conversion is for a limited amount of cars that pull it off, and just barely at that. They also tend to take alot of money to make sure EVERYTHING works and fits in with the conversion theme. meaning expensive rims, fitment is perfect, expensive body kits that cost moeny and fit right.

You get these high school kids that show up in their mom's BMW thinking they're hot **** driving around like assholes, or you get retards that throw an exhaust on their car and think it's the fastest thing on the road. I'm honestly getting tired of meets. I miss the quality that used to come out. Maybe it's just because of the weather but I'm legit tired of seeing same bull**** cars that come to meets.

I agree with you about 50%. Cali has the smog Nazis on a state-wide level. The "sick" cars coming out of there are shop cars, track-only cars, and slammed Miatas because as soon as you put an non-Carb exhaust on your car, you can bet a LEO will pull you over and flag the car for a tech inspection. Good luck with having a swapped or modded car out there. The West Coast scene is just as bad as it is here, except for the weather.

The South, though, has an absolute ton of shops and sick cars because that's where they can play year-round, and Florida and other similar states have pretty lax inspection regs, if any.

There are sick cars coming from all over the country, but you have to look for them.

Foolinaround

01-10-2011, 02:05 PM
Absolutely. There's a fair share of well built cars around us, but, like you said, you have to search and a majority of them are show cars. However, Even with Cali's inspection laws they still manage to have well built cars and their meets are of quality and not quantity. You don't see pictures coming from the west coast of half-assed built cars but you sure as hell see them coming from the east. I'm not knocking on anyone, but I'm just saying east coast needs to step up to the plate at some point. We can wish, argue, and hope all we want, but that does us no good if we don't make some legitimate attempts at our own cars.

I'm tired of seeing bull**** at the meets. Like vinny said we have a lot of **** that shows up to meets. Not that my car is perfect or the fastest thing on the road but I'm just tired of the haggard riced out cars (I'm not specifying cars but those that were with me at the garage know what cars I'm referring to.) Showing up to meets. I'd rather see 5 quality cars show up than have the garage filled with what's been coming out.

Idk if that came out wrong but what I'm trying to say is; I made my friends through the local meets and it's stupid when people bring their friends who obviously aren't into cars or are an extremely casual car enthusiast.

I started the garage though as a place to come hang out on Thursdays, for people to meet new people to network, and just to chill. I'm not an elitist when it comes to cars, and that's why if someone wants to bring in their riced out neon for now I don't care. Maybe, when they see higher quality cars they will re-evaluate their own and build something sweet.

Alot of fast cars aren't meet cars. My friend leaves his nova and trans am home and instead drives his jeep to meets. Meets aren't about speed out here. Most people dont care about anything after is it s/c, t/c, oh cool, and thats all. Most people at meets just arent knowledgeable enough where its worth bringing out something.

First off, the meets are the same anywhere you go. Just because you see pictures on a car forum from a west coast meet or some media coverage of a meet or what ever, your not getting the big picture. People take pictures of cars they like and nice cars. You guys have to get real, there are 16-18 year old kids everywhere in the US not just the east coast. The average salary for a 16-20 year old kid is not a lot. Thus these kids cant afford to modd cars to XXXXHp or have extra stretch on volks or what ever your definition of a nice or sick car is. so they get rice buckets or what ever they can afford and do dumb **** with them.

Also idiots are everywhere not just in the tristate area, you just don't see that when you look at pictures from car meets that are 4000 miles away.

Take our Big Ass Best Buy meet for example, it had a **** load of rice and a **** ton of nice cars, But who took pictures of the ****ty cars, Ito? Ciotti? I think nobody, so people from cali might get the idea that damn nice cars show up to that meet and its huge. People on the east coast must all have sick ****. Also how many kids from Cali know that a girl got slammed be her ex at our car meet? or a kid got hit by a honda? Nobody cause they arn't locals. You just have to look at things as a realest.

Everywhere is better than home right?

What's the point in telling "kids" that their cars suck? Kids can't afford to do anything big, and they shouldn't. They should be enjoying their life before they grow up and begin to have real responsibilities.

To me, that's modified. The car was bought, then modified.

When I think of "building" a car, raw materials come to mind.

I was never one for looks, so thats why i got into mitsubishis, prolly the only platform where 90+% of the comunity thinks body kits/ stretched tires/wings are gay. Only reason i started modding my cars is because i wanted to learn how to do everything on the car by myself. Without being labeled a mechanic or anything like that. Not to mention I want a car that is fast, looks make no difference to me, as long as the body isnt rusted and the paint isnt too ****ed up. Between all the cars I own now, i could be driving some sort of beemer or have a civic as a daily driver. But honestly if I'm daily driving something it has to be fast and it has to be turbo. Sometimes its a really tough balance to find and building a fast 4 cylinder thats 20 years old and still have it reliable enough to drive 30+ minutes to work every day is difficult.

And I dont really think he ruffled anybodys feathers, Dustin has only tickled the nut sack of what it takes to mod a car. To me hes still just a kid looking in to what it takes to have a sick car.

From what ive gathered on the Modded Mitsus from this area... ive learned this.

If its riced out, it's NA.
Most turbo mitsu's that are modded have a bigger drivetrain mod list than visual mod list.(most...fujito)
If it looks stock with a big fmic, its prob fast.
Evo's are quick except for when they are on flatbeds.
DSM's can be very fast if they dont crankwalk.
And if it's a black evo x with expensive visual parts, it's most likely fujito.

I bought my 97 Talon before I even knew that there was a turbo model or what a DSM was. After I realized that I could not swap it, the search was on. They're cheap, there's a ton of aftermarket parts, and for the most part, the community is full of knowledgable people with fast cars. There's alot of other platforms I'd like to explore, but the 4G is just so freakin' stout, that I'd likely be swapping whatever chasis it was that I ended up with.

Why did you choose a dsm in the first place?
When I bought my DSM I actually didnt want it. I wanted a 240 because i wanted to get into drifting. But luckily both my wife and all of my friends where very influential in convincing me to get a DSM instead of a 240. Kind of looking at the scene now, Im glad I got the DSM and wouldnt change a thing. To me 240s now are kind of like civics. And DSMs are like ferraris because chances of spotting one driving around these days is very slim.

I just like how the average DSMer now has become a lot more knowledgeable then they once were. I know like 5years ago everyone and there grandmom owned a DSM. Also the 16G turbo has almost been completely phased out. Now its holset this, borg warner that, its cool and helps the pregression of the platform.

Id have to agree, I think the EvoX just has way too much going on, exterior wise. For me everything about that car just screams "LOOK AT ME"

Unlike the previous evos where it was just the wing that said look at me, other than that everything about the previous evos was fairly subtle and in great taste. To this day the evo 8 or 9 are the only "new" cars I would drive.

The "next level" I was referring to isn't really a quantitive thing as much as a state of mind.

In times past the industry and scene was full of those who weren't afraid to push the envelope and do things differently. Those people built cars as functional pieces of art - uncompromising in the pursuit of both the "perfect" form and "perfect" function. Those people and cars seem to have faded away as the scene evolved now is over populated by cookie-cutter cars. Cars lack the soul, the meticulous work, the care that people once had.

Now everyone makes fun of those who splurge on expensive parts, non-functional modifications and anything that differs from the norm. The general concensous of most people seems to fit into the categories of the "go fast", "look good", "be slammed" etc etc and have no interest in anything outside of their tastes. This is disappointing.

In any case - I do not wish to start an arguement, just state a fact.

I hope to someday create a rolling monument to my tastes, and I hope you do the same.

mr_eh

understandable. but your definition of next level and someone elses is wildly different. budget, age, etc. 10 years ago when i was 18 i wasn't able to do what i am now and im glad i didnt... i still have the first car i thought was cool, it's my daily, a 2000 grand am with a sweet nordskog a/f gauge and a something brand transmission temperature gauge on the pillar with an ebay intake !

i think what i've learned in those 10 years is that even if the rest of the scene had cars you admired unless you are returning the favor you are just part of the problem

Thanks y'all. I might pick up a little sponsorship to help ease the costs of the turbo build. I ditched the idea of building the motor and went back to my original plans of a FP Red build on the stock motor with meth. The car will be pretty much done by this summer, which makes it a 2 year build.

What I learned from the past 2 years in the car scene is that everyone would be better off without the forums. I understand modding cars and the fun of it, but it seems like some people are literally competing with others online, whether it be on this forum or their respective car forum. That's a very dangerous game and it comes down to ego and insecurities. And not everyone is competing, but many are doing things to please others. Then there are also the ethugs which amuse me. They have a lot to say online, but not much in person.

And Fro, having a car at the level you speak of is very unpractical. The kind of car you speak of will easily have over $50,000 of parts and labor into it. Imagine owning something like that. Imagine having exterior body parts that cost thousands of dollars, or wheels that cost $4,000. Would you want to DD that? Would you want to race that? "Oh yeah sure" you might say, but damage one item and eat the cost of that part, then say that again. You have to be rich to be able to afford to drive a car like that, and when I say rich I mean like you could have easily afforded to buy a Ferrari instead of whatever project you own.

A car of that level doesn't neccessarily have to cost that much. Depending on how money is spent, and the level of work done by the owner the cost could vary dramatically. I understand that it would be much easier to build a car of that caliber on an inexpensive platform - EF/EG/EK Civic, Pre-2000's Mustang, 240sx's, MKIII Supras etc than to use a more modern and more expensive Chassis - 350z, Evo, STi, etc. I'm not thinking that anyone should go out and spend $20,000 in car stuff, I'm just referencing a theoretical ideal situation.

Perhaps the people I am most disgusted with are the people in the "Drift" and "240" scenes. I haven't seen a properly built 240 being used for anything other than a show car in ages. It's saddening to see all these "Drifters" buy 240's, throw on the cheapest parts available and not caring about reaching maximum functionality or having a car that looks halfway decent because it's a "Drift Car" and then putting down any other car that is built more meticulously than their's.

I like to think that I, and many other people on this site can appreciate the work that goes into a high caliber car and though we may disagree with their tastes in aesthetics or some of the functional decisions we make, we can all appreciate the craftsmanship put into a car by the owner.

For those of you concerned with copy-cats, thus is life. In Engineering there is a common saying of "Steal Where you can, invent where you can't". It's just a matter of efficiency in some cases.

Personally, when I see someone copy my design or my method, I take it as a compliment. Imitation is the best form of Flattering after all.

Judging yourselves by the merits of others is not just an online thing.

I agree that forums often don't help -- but it is not the cause of any of it. Also, as far as e-thugs go, they are everywhere. With that said, many communities are able to keep them to a minimum (see: SA).

With that said I also personally hate car forums, for the most part. While some are okay, most are bastions of ignorance and terrible.

I definitely agree, but honestly I find forums more useful than not. I know the other one I have used for awhile and we all help each other out alot. The other day I drove 2 hours to help this kid fix his car after an accident. I got there and 4 other kids were there and another drove further than me. We all met on the forum.
And as far as being the first goes, alot of people never like the first to do something so the thing is even if you are the first you get no credit. Like the first honda odyessy front end conversion or ls engine swap on a 240, everyone hated. Now it's a big swap.

As far as building a car you want I totally agree that one should build a car he wants not from what he sees other people do. I was one of the first people in the US to convert their Tiburon front ends to the 06 front end. When I was buying the parts everyone told me it didn't fit or that it would look ugly b/c my color never came that way. Needless to say now it's a very common thing. Build the car you want in your heart not to please anyone. After my truck is paid off I want to either get a white bugeye or a white 240sx. I think people care way too much about what people are going to say about their cars. Who's to say that your car is crappier than the guy that spent 80 bucks for a HKS oil cap? If you love it drive it, if you don't sell it.

We need something to make this thread awesome again... Like the Radical SR8. The ONLY Street legal car to EVER make it into the 6 minute range on the Nurburgring.

BEHOLD! THE RADICAL SR8!
http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Radical-SR8.jpg

One of the few reasons this car was even built was because the Nurburgring record held by the previous, already fast car, The SR3 Turbo, was beaten by 4 seconds by a dutch car based on the Lotus Super 7... So within
a few months of their previous record time being broken, they released this monster, which not only topped the sr3 turbo's time by 26 seconds, but shattered the 7 minute barrier just to pretty much shun the other racing team lol.

Then 2 years ago, they built an even better monster based on the sr8(above), which beat the normal sr8's record time by almost 7 seconds. Radical Sports Cars holds 3 of the top 5 Lap times on the ring(street legal category). Ever.

This team should be an inspiration to everyone. And that is my contribution of awesome to this thread. Hope you enjoyed the little history lesson. :)

It's even better when it's criticized before it's copied. When I put an EWG on my bugeye (copying the DSM crowd) everyone said it was a waste and stupid. Now, tons of manufacturers make bolt-on EWG kits and your Subaru ain't cool unless you have one.

Do I want a medal? Nah, that's gay. You just have to accept the fact that if you do something that works, others will follow. If you want some kind of credit, you're SOL.

The car does look good. But the wing looks like trash. Plus I really dont think thats a GT car (this inference can simply be made by looking at the mod list, where the "look mods" out weigh the performance mods). it honestly looks more like a show car than a race car, thus that wing looks retarded. The obvious statement to make would be anytime u strap a aluminum, CF wing, etc on a car, you obviously change the aerodynamics of any car. This doesnt justify the stupidity of it on cars that arnt full out race cars. (thats fully gutted, high hp, etc)

I for one like the styling of the 3g prelude. However, that car should of been made rwd.

Mike(steelermike27) has a REALLY clean 91. Like the cleanest 20 year old honda I've ever seen. I'm gonna be honest, at the pace that car is going, it's gonna be pretty fresh, but at the same time, not riced out.

LIBERTA HAS SPOKEN!!!

All of them are 90-91s. I had the "almost the ugliest" 3G Prelude. The subtle changes they made to the Prelude in 1990 helped big time.

One more pic of the Lude.

I believe everyone hits that stage in their life where they would rather have a nice quick reliable car then a fast car that's a money pit. This is what distinquishes gearheads vs. guys that like cars. Gearheads will blow up a motor and rebuild it for the love of cars building. Eventually. Not until I at least get some wheels, a lip, and a drop which won't be for a while since I'm going back to school next semester.
I think the stock supra wing keeps the supra lines a lot better than the TRD wing. The supra has such nice and smooth lines and the TRD wing looks all boxy. Like the evo 8/9 wing looks good on the evo because its a boxy car, a supra style wing on an evo would look pretty bad.

I feel like I'm over the stage where going fast is cool? That video didnt even make me turn on the volume.
Ah thats a shame cause that is one of the sickest SC videos Ive ever seen. As far as going fast, Personally i dont think ill ever be able to slow down.

I think if you know how to put a car together and how to drive them you can have very fast cars that arn't money pits. Problem with kids these days is they put a cars together that are quick and beat the things into the ground and then wonder why their **** breaks.

Come out to one of our south jersey region autocrosses and you'll get the bug to go fast again. Straight line stuff and/or drifting is cool for a year or two but gets old fast, using/building your driving skill to go faster and seeing it reflected in your times is much more fun and almost never gets old. Plus you get to buy parts that don't explode or get torn off the car

I will say this from speaking with some of the guys at auto-x, they seem to be alot more in tune than the average "street racer". Of course there are expceptations to that such as Alex with his Talon or Steve with whatever car he has at that moment...lol. I can't wait for the spring to bring the Tiburon to auto-x for the first time. Hopefully I don't mess up too bad...lol. Ciotti what class would I be in?

you know the insides and outside of your cars and you know what it is and is not capable of. alot of people buy built cars and don't know what to do if something goes wrong.

I'll stick with Street Solutions. He doesn't do his own tuning but I trust him completely with my cars. Did my 1jz swap on my first Supra, my LSD on my 88, and hasn't done anything on the MKIV but just finished a 2JZ swap on his SC300 so I know he's familiar with everything.

I autocross and I don't know a ****ing thing about my car. If it had a mechanical failure I'd be up **** crick. I could baffle you with suspension terminology and a community college level understanding of physics, though!

I thought u were speaking from a deep metaphorical connection lol.Ill be the first to admit though I dont know everything there is to know about my cars. I know more than some car people but I still don't know all the bells and whistles.

But the level of the average DSMers knoweledge has evolved in the last 5 years being that people that own these DSM cars now are older and have gained a lot more knowledge, all the kids (or "car guys" as you would put it) have been weeded out. I would really put myself on the level of the average DSMer, by no means a DSM guru, but by no means your typical "car guy" either.

Alex, you should get an NA Supra and swap it...I'd love to see SOMEBODY build a sick Supra in the area. I don't have money to do so since I'm trying to go back to school soon.

You missed out on the best times, man. Evo and Audi time attacks on Tōge Road. The Evo X continues to amaze me over how many Newtonian Laws of Physics it can bend and break, regardless of road conditions.

Ah I wish I could. I know if I ever get a supra I will either be getting a shell or an NA. I have always wanted to see someone put a holset hx50-55 on a supra. I think I just need maybe another ~2 years to finish up all my cars and have all them where I want them horsepower wise before I try to get something else.

But I think if i go away from a mitsubishi I might try to find a r32 GTR I have seen a few go on tst in the last 6 months for around what I would be paying for a running non turbo supra. Supras are cool and all, but honestly to me AWD has spoiled me too much over the years. And I have seen 100times more supras in my life than I have skylines. Since I got into cars it was always a dream to own a skyline, hopefully in the next few years I can make it a reality. Its not even a matter of affording a car, its just I dont want another project, between all the car I own now I kind of have my hands full.

I really just wanna have 3 cars. Pump gas car, pump gas and meth, and an E85 car.

They have another model that is made on a wood frame and still uses a leather strap to close the hood. So awesome.
