Considering his car has a broken tranny, to him it might be an upgrade.

I look at it this way, It's still boosted, the cars got somewhat potential, very sick looking, quick, gets amazing gas mileage compared to the v6 boosted gas hog, and my car doesnt run. his does, considering i dont have any extra money to buy a DD for all the downtime of GA building the tranny. I drive 50+ miles to school and back, so about 100 miles a day.

Hate to break this to you but unless you got a 337 GTI, 20th AE GTI or a car with an 02M trans swap, you're probably going to blow up that transmission as well. The 02J trans doesn't like more than a stock turbo...
I swapped an 02M into my car and sold my 02J to a guy who blew first on his 02J with a K04 (<250whp).
EDIT:

He's running a Mitsu TD04 on a VW which (usually) means one thing: he bought the Greddy kit. That kit uses a TD04 Hybrid 19T. Here's the map:
http://wcssp.webclub-subaru.com/steph13/td04h-19t-cfm.gif
~35 lbs per minute = ~350 bhp tops = ~300 wheel.
And more importantly, here's a dyno at 24psi:
http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w275/NightSwing17/2_12_2008Dyno.jpg
That was with 11.x AFR at WOT so it's not running too well...
So you'll probably be making a bit over 250 wheel in a 2900lb car.
28lbs of boost on a stock bottom end?
As long as he stays under 300 wtq he's more than safe. Going by that dyno, he won't be pushing more than that.
Wonder if the timing belt was done, Aren't these motor's notorious for having sludge problems?
At that mileage even if the timing belt was done at 60-80k like it should have been, the thing is coming up on needing another TB job. Old motors in Passats/A4s are notorious for sludging up when not run with synthetic, newer motors are fine as long as you use full syn.

My buddies 337 broke it's trans after he put a K04 on. pretty sure both trannies aren't the greatest. BTW he makes 250whp and 307wtq.

02Ms fail as well (seems like they randomly break shift forks) but they are a better design than the 02J, primarily a tougher diff. Guys making big numbers hold 700whp + on 02Ms.

2. Dont buy a modded dub
3. Should be around 220WHP

Wow that wasn't the most biased response in this ENTIRE thread.
Your gonna end up buying this car, I guarantee **** is just thrown together and won't hold up any better than the grand am did. Atleast the GA was original IMO

That's the exact reason buying a modded car is more of a gamble.

I call BS!
Car ran a 14.013 @ 103 mph with a terrible transmission no first gear. easily a low-mid 13 second car, will retune car after I have new trans and valve springs in.
0-60 was 4.5 seconds after I had car broken in with a little bit of wheel spin.
Post #38 from your build thread ^^^
Thats stock times for muscle cars. Add a turbo to a Mustang and your not even in the same ball park.

Think about it, The GA definitely wasn't meant for more power hence why the tranny popped. But VW's **** trannys on a "normal" basis by makin a tad more then stock power level.s

Lol ok man, whatever you say, The Mustang owner can vouch for me walking him,14 flat without first gear is pretty damn impressive considering 2nd gear shiftpoint is at 45.
And I know the kid in person for quite some years that has this car, he said after he gets turbo put on he is having it reflashed before he gives it to me.

I'm not hating on your build at all. Its impressive to see a built up car. But think of it in simple numbers
99 Grand Am GT 3.4L V6 that weighs 3091
98 Mustang V8 weighs 3273
99 Mustang V8 weighs 3317
05 Mustang V8 weighs 3483
Your telling me that with your car being slightly lights with a V6 (A4)with a turbo is going to outrun a V8 (M5) with a turbo?

So you're comparing engines now?
consindering every motor is different and not every car is the same, anyways, 3400/3500s love boost, great motors

I'm saying a turbo V6 is not going to outrun a turbo V8 if they have equivilent mods and the cars weigh basically the same.

car is stock with a turbo thrown on, as for mine, i'm just running open downpipe, huge difference in WOT when i have exhaust on, no doubt.

I agree with the VDub dudes in here, your car should be a little over 200hp, not 170. Also get rid of the blow off valve immediately. Enjoy it. If you need any work done, bring it to 20squared.
