the front carbon fiber hood section of a Porsche GT is 80,00... knowing this because I had to assemble one as a tech..

correct in that this is SAI's hood and policies. And I don't believe Carroll actually has anything to do with SAI either, other than having signed some contracts giving the company rights to use and sell his name. Figure, the guy is way old and rich at this point that he doesn't work. and if he's involved at all, i doubt its to the extent of making design and performance decisions. Its probably a, "this is what are people came up with, we want you to take pictures with it and GTFO"

thats all well and good, but not entirely the point of the thread. SAI is running circles around a customer of theirs who have a legit claim and have gone through the process SAI has put in place. They're just plain being assholes about it. They finally shipped a new hood to the guy, but it arrived damaged due to improper packing and refused to acknowledge any wrong doing. meanwhile, Ford itself has contacted the owner and is doing what they can to assist him... however SAI is independent of Ford as far as i know and does not need to cooperate when Ford makes a request.
and as far as not wanting anyone to copy the hood...

and nothing failed here, the guy hit an animal... i assume a deer, but i don't believe the type of animal was told. this should have been a relatively simple insurance claim that no one on the internet should have gotten wind of, except for maybe the price of the hood

Can't the guy just get regular 06+ GT parts, and make it a kinda sleeper? Or are they manufactured that they have a different way of fitting on the mustang? Those prices seem to be a bit outrageous for some body parts and a bit of paint work.

**** that!!!! If I paid that kind of $$ for a car...I want THAT car's body parts!

I'd want it to be a sleeper. Or would you be able to go to an aftermarket setup, as it might be cheaper to get them then dealing directly with Shelby and spending $21,000 on a goddamn hood.

Yeah, but from what I understand, the KR package is ONLY body parts/looks. It's the same drivetrain as the GT500. So the ONLY reason people buy that car is for the looks/exclusivity/collectability (is there is any), etc.
lownslow95
09-20-2009, 08:43 AM
Then the smart thing to do would be buy GT500 hood, and call it a day. But thats just me, and I wouldn't waste that kind of money for a little incident like what this guy is going through. It would be easier, and cheaper.
Scapegoat
09-20-2009, 08:46 AM
insurance is taking care of it.
you don't buy a car like that to be a sleeper... and the rest of the car gives it away anyway. i also guarantee if you had that car you wouldn't be removing body parts and emblems to make it a sleeper and thus destroying any possible value the vehicle would have in the future.
ultimately, the cost of the hood, while incredibly ridiculous (i think its been reduced to just shy of 9k before tax due to this whole ordeal), is not the point. Its just a nice eye catcher to get people to look at the thread and see whats going on. This guy hasn't been able to drive his car in 2 months because SAI is dicking this guy over despite having all the proper documentation AND raising the issue to the world. Poor business ethics and poor customer service is the point.
debating over the price is moot. most of us can't fathom spending much more than that on a car itself, and the insurance company is covering the costs

some of them came with additional upgrades to the supercharger system from ford racing i believe... i think they could be had with around 700hp...
but you are predominately correct. its a 40th anniversary addition of the original 1968 gt500kr

Actually thinkin about it, i know why they request the vin number when purchasing these parts. If i recall, ALL the parts of that mustang are "vin numbered" to show authenticity, but charging that high of a premium they must have been passing the ganja when setting them prices.

to who though? the guys with the numbered and authentic kr's aren't going to buy parts w/o their vin on them. and i sure as hell am not paying 10-20k for a hood to put on my gt when i could turn around and buy a gt500 instead
there were 1000 2008 40th anniversary gt500kr's made and i think under 600 2009 "plain" gt500kr's.
the prices are set to keep these things exclusive. i'm sure in the planning stages SAI, Ford Motor and Ford Racing didn't expect people to be driving their kr's around enough to see an insurance claim... hell, most of the gt500's i see used at dealerships are under 6k miles. but its this poor owner who is getting **** on by the company b/c of it...

It was more of a joke anyway. Buying a $80k+ car just to turn around and part out wouldn't be the wisest investment. lol

That sucks about the hood but it's not uncommon for car companies to do this on limited edition vehicles.
I know Subaru does this for a couple of their limited production JDM cars. They don't overcharge as much as Saleen, but you have jump through flaming hoops and provide proof of ownership to get the parts.

It's 100% on the insurance company, you pay for the coverage, they're legally bound to fix it. I sincerely doubt they agreed to insure it having no clue what it cost to fix. The guy's premiums are probably astronomical.
