hey guys i was thinking of purchasing the megan racing headers/uppipe combo the upipipe is welded to the headers.... is this good quality or junk? heres a link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8026104445&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Headers really aren't needed if you are on a stock turbo. The gains with them are minimal at best. Personally i wouold look for a sti up pipe.

they will give you a faster spool-up time, maybe take away that boxter sound that subaru poeple love so much. these come ported, polished, and heattreated

magan racing is the best bang for your buck

We know they aren't crap but it is a waste of money for a pretty much stock wrx.

Actually the headers will give you additional lag. It's not needed on a stock turbo, nor is it a nessesity for a turbo upgrade. Simply port your stock ones and be done for the day. As for megan racing, I personally wouldnt buy any product from then. To tell you the truth any up pipe will do, if your cheap buy a sti up pipe, they go really cheap. I actually will be selling my turbo xs cast up pipe, as soon as my new turbo setup comes in, since the cast up pipe will not be able to have a external waste gate welded onto it.

i'll further support that headers will give you slight additional peak power but at the cost of low end spool. its not a very popular upgrade for most WRX/STi owners because of this pro/con tradeoff. many many people run even aftermarket turbos on the stock headers.
i ported and polished my stockers and think thats a good way to go. if you have the tools already its free, although very time consuming.

the reason why i dont want an sti uppipe is cuz of no flex in it i want an uppipe with a flex cuz its better off with one if not then im gonna get the invidia one from xpsi for like 100 bucks so thats what im leaning towards at the moment.. this way i got some cash left for the gaskets... which i was told i wouldnt need cuz of my car being so new...

any way i was just wondering if the headers were a big improvement or not and what it looks like it would be worse if i got it then if i dont.. so thanks for saving me a couple dollars guys....

yo where can you get an up pipe for 100$. Also, why you want a flex one so bad, you really dont need it.

i want the flex cuz i was told it is better to have a flex then to have a strait one piece for leak reasons

the sti uppipe has an expansion joint, which is arguably more effective than a flex joint that is loose all of the time.
the reason uppipes can leak is because when the engine bay heats up the different metals expand at different rates which stresses the seals where these different metals are bolted together. although the expansion joint on the sti uppipe (and the stock wrx uppipe) is not flexible when you hold it in your hand, when it heats up it absorbs all of the movement instead of your seals being compromised. aftermarket flex uppipes achieve the same result, but are flexible all of the time... i guess its not a good or a bad thing.
with all that said, if the invidia uppipe is 100 dollars and you've read good things about it, then it might work out just fine... a flex joint isnt necessary.
how about you contact some of the local tst vendors to see what they can do for you on your new parts instead of going to a shop that isnt a vendor on here? its worth a phone call to check out what they have at least.

yeah i pmed them all and only 2 got back to me and arent really dealling with the companys im looking to get so i dont know and you guys said that the megan header uppipe combo is not a good route to take due to turbo lag and others so this is why i might go with invidia and the one shop that i talked to today doesnt stock anything and i dont feel like waiting for it..

you really only need the 2 uppipe gaskets, IMO, they should be about $30 total either from a shop or the dealer. thanks for contacting the vendors here, they keep things running. you should tell extremepsi that you use this site regularly and thta they should think about joining up :).
anyways, let us know what you decide to do. as long as you get quality parts then you'll be fine i'm sure.

I have an APS UpPipe and I'm very happy with it so far. Definately get the gaskets though. I figured, ahhhh, I'll run to dealer and buy them if needed. My car had 18,000 miles and when we went to do install, we noticed the gaskets were shot. So I walk into Martin SUbaru thinking I'm gonna pick up a gasket and guess what? They don't have'em in stock. I was so lucky that I had a pal there that lent me the gasket he brought with him for his up pipe install.

the uppipe i was referring to being 100 was the invidia one sorry for the confusion... i was told to stay away from hks uppipes and downpipes for my car... yes i got your pm but i am leaning toward the helix uppipe that 2.8 is selling or an invidia...
