Ok,let me fill you in on a little info before i go and ask my question.

Story:
Ok it started yesterday (weds) at school , my friend has a 1990 Toyota Camry. Its the 4cyl. model. We replaced both tie-rod ends, both front bearings, and axles. When we were done, we noticed that there was a essentric bushing missing from the strut-to-steering knuckle. There was a 1/4 to 1/2 in. gap between the strut and the steering knuckle where the top bolt goes through.(Let me better explain this, Where the 2 bolts go through the bottom of the strut, and through the knuckle, where the bottom bolt is, the strut is flush (against) both sides of the knuckle. On the top bolt, there is a space, the strut isnt "wide" enough for the knuckle, there is a space on the right side of the strut, where it sits in the knuckle.) So, we look on the other side and there is a bushing in there. Sooo we figure, ok, it was missing, we will get another one and replace it.

So we run out to team toyota, they say the bushing doesnt exist. :bigeek: , Next we go to Faulkner Toyota (FAULKNER 2 BE SURE YO lol) and they tell us the same thing, that it must be "aftermarket" (there words not mine lol) and that we would have to go to a autozone/pep boys/national auto to get it.

So we then go to all 3 places, and none of them have the part. They said they dont have anything in their computers that would even ressemble a strut-to-steering knuckle essentric bushing.

OK, NOW IM THINKING WTF???

So we return to school, and look up a Exploded assembly of the strut and steering knuckle (includes all bolts/pins/nuts everything) on the computer for that yr/make/model. Nothing shows up for a bushing, according to the diagram, there is nothing there , the bolt just goes through.

So my teacher is DEMANDING that there is a bushing there, when 2 dealerships and 3 stores told us it doesnt exist... AND the computer assembly diagram shows nothing.

So im left with 2 options here... help me out on this one.

#1- When the front struts were replaced (If they ever were, he never replaced them, but isnt sure if the previous owner did), they were the wrong strut, and there is a gap, that needed to be filled in, on the steering knuckle, and whoever installed the struts just threw 2 bushings in there to fill the space.

#2- Every place i have gone too is high on crack and pcp. and cant help me. the part exists, but its a beotch to find.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT MIKE, THIS IS BUGGING THE **** OUT OF ME!!!

if you need a better explanation... let me know, il try to find another diagram and show u what i mean.

OK, from what I could see there should NOT be any shims/spacers/washers/eccentrics between the knuckle and the strut body.

There were, however, 3 different types of Camry's that year. 2 FWD and one 4WD. Yes, a 4WD Camry, who knew?
Perhaps the car had some damage to it at one point and the struts or knuckles were replaced with the wrong ones. I am guessing it would be the struts since you said you replaced the axles and bearings and didn't have any fitment issues.
I'll post up an exploded view in a few minutes.

Sorry man, I really don't have a viable explanation. Good luck with it.
