My shop was just sent a letter last week saying that in the month of september they will start pulling cars over with tinted headlights, taillights, side markers etc. I always fail car's for inspection with anything other than factory lighting but apparently others are not. We were told that if they pull a car over they are checking inspection stickers, first time the inspector will get a warning. Second time your Pa state inspection/emissions liscence gets suspended for 3 months. Just a heads up to you guys with tint on your lights

Well if its OEM it pass's. For example all of our Hybrid vehicles have a light blue tint on the heads and tails

We just got the newsletter last monday 9/1, it goes into affect this month. I doubt that an officer would pull you over just for it, but if your doing dumb **** its just another ticket to add on.

What if HID's are done correctly i.e. projectors? And I am not talking about the cheap Ebay projectors. And my side mirrors have a blue tint to them, but the sides are peeling because they are constantly heated and they screw up over time. Will the inspector think its tint on them? This comes stock on the car.

lol no dont. just take them off for inspection. they cant get an inspection place in trouble for inspecting a car that was illegally modified after it was inspected.... otherwise im pretty sure shops would keep tabs on the cars they are inspecting lol

Na you wouldn't have a problem with that

Thats what I was wondering as well, I don't see how they can prove it was on the car while it was inspected.

if u have aftermarket lights, how can they give u a ticket it they are d.o.t compliant, i think it is so much about targeting a group of people that they are willing to break or bend the laws they made, D.O.T compliant means it meets the same standards as the OEM headlights or tail lights so how can it be illegal, im not talking about things like super bright hid's and the colored hid's but for ones that are actually legal and still aftermarket u should not be able to be ticketed for it, if i buy a car why can i not upgrade the lighting for better visibility. I can understand the tail light tint being illegal, but if its not really dark how much does it really hinder u from being able to see them.

Be careful anyway. NJ you can't have any tint on taillights at all. Sidemarkers are OK I believe.

As far as the HID concern goes, my understanding is - unless it was an OEM option on you specific model vehicle, then they are "illegal" and they won't really bother with this unless your lights are aimed everywhere blinding everyone like most Civics/VWs/Cobalts and so on. Most non-HID housings have a completely different beam battern that scatters light that is ideal for HALOGEN lights, once you throw in HIDs you're losing the benefit of them and just being a dick by blinding other drivers. However, a good bit of newer vehicle housing have a directed/aimed beam pattern that will cut light similar to a projector housing will - just not as sharp - and there fore it is easier to aim the lights and not blind people.

They should do that in jersey haha. I know of a handful of annoying little cars that speed around with everything tinted out.

They really need to stop finding all of this stupid bull**** reasoning just to pull people over. If you get caught speeding, swerving etc. ok thats understandable but they shouldn't be allowed to pull a car over for window tint, HID's, head and tail tint, modified exhaust, it's just bull****!

Window tint is illegal in some states because of the hazard to the cop. If you are tinted and a cop walks upto your car, he can't see you pull a gun until its too late.
Tint on tails obviously darkens the light. Less light = more risk of not seeing it. Granted I don't think the little bit we are putting on for the most part makes that much of a difference, I don't make the law.
As far as inforcing it, I can't see they can. Too many have already done it and its costly to buy new ones for many of us. At best, I see them phasing this into effect months down the road, assuming they change inspection code and all accordingly.
