Changing the drive of a front wheel drive car?!?

Ok so I am curious as to what needs to be done to change a front wheel drive car to either a rear wheel or if possible an all wheel drive car? And if you know a price range that would help also thanks!

Damn if that's what you want, you might as well sell it and buy a car with rwd or awd. Cuz with a car that's that new the project would be unbelieveable and more costly than the car itself.

The reason no literature exists on this topic is because if you want a RWD car, buy one.

you would need alot of money and/or mad fabrication skills, an awd engine setup with custom driveshaft, custom rear end, modified rear hubs from some sort of rwd/awd car, custom exhaust so it doesnt get in the way of the driveshaft, new gas tank, and alot of custom wiring. you would probably have to use an sti, evo, gsx, talon tsi awd, impreza 2.5rs, wrx, or some other type of awd car's engine.

It's been done. A guy on team-integra.net put an h22 in the back of an integra making it mid engine rwd. His budget was 10 grand, but he did ALL of the work himself and it was VERY involved. Came out amazing though. It's worth checking out but for the average joe to do it is rather unpractial.

There was an AWD 350z at HIN in VA last year...or at least the big sticker on the side said so lol and everyone was talking about it. It was in a booth for a shop, so I didn't really get a good look at it. IMO is more of a hassle than its worth...just get a new car.

That car was in the USCC a few years back. It was done very well.
There is also a MR CRX on Honda-tech that is making good progress.

you not only need to worry about the rear end, but the entire front end needs to be rebuilt as well... i'd say having a tube chassis built ala drag car and grafting the unibody to that would be the best bet... at that point a V8 under the hood would be easy haha

They probbably just used the drivetrain from a G35x and modded it to fit.

Everything is custom when it comes to the RWD conversion category. They do what they have to do to make it fit which also involves chassis re-fabrication and custom subframes, etc. Dont know what they did with Fausts car, but I've seen beams swaps in them... Sweet....

i know a shop that is up for it. they said about 25G's and they were even talking about doing it to a civic.
its not the point of buying a RWD car its the point of being different and never seeing it done.

The question is... do you want to drive the car legally on the street or not? Which is why people buy RWD cars from the factory. Swapping an SR in isn't arguably much different in terms of illegality, it just fits in there OEM style and trust me, there will be NOTHING factory designed on a converted car...

On another note, I found out Faust's drift tC has a mk.4 supra rear with a nascar engine... Word.
