View Full Version : Once and for all; who can use radars?
Everyone always talks about who can and who cannot use radar to clock your speed. I've heard local police cannot and state troopers (obviously) can. I've also heard certain commonwealth's in the state allow local police to use radar. And lastly, it's always a battle about whether or not local NJ police are using radar. So, what exactly is it?
thanks. :wiggle:

I can only answer that for Philly, we do not use rador to clock speed, we use VASCAR, the way it works is your car is timed going between to set points the amount of time it takes to travel the distance is used to calculate your speed... I have no idea what departments do and dont use radar..

what about pacing a car? and under what terms can an officer write a wreckless driving / racing ticket? for example if you are obviously going too fast but he hasnt clocked you...

I dont know about pacing, but you can get a ticket for "driving too fast for conditions" with out being clocked. like say if a cop sees you going 80 on market street. then if you start weaving in and out of traffic then he will tack on the wreckless drving ticket..
