Look into GHL and Milltek. Both come in 2.5 and 3 inch diameters. I have heard a milltek 2.5 before and it sounds throaty and slightly louder than stock at idle. Head over to vwvortex.com and search in the MKIV forum. GL.

Techtonics and Borla are the most preferred around the VW crowd.

I was also going to recommend techtonics.

They all sorta have the same deep throaty sound. I have respect for all of those listed here.

my sister has the tt/borla on her 20th. if i could afford exhaust i would go with tt/borla right now, but i'm sooo broke. a lot of people say custom is a good way to go to... depends on what sound you want, and how much you wanna spend.

My buddy had a borla on his car till the muffler came apart. Seems they are known for coming apart at the welds. Not sure if this still true or not but the shop we went to had a bunch of them lying around with similar problems.

i've heard a lot of good things about tt/borla. was it aluminized or stainless?

It was stainless. And the shop had a bunch of the stainless Borla mufflers sitting in the trash pile that had come apart.

Agreed.

But a few VW'ers I know go custom with a Borla muffler and it works out nicely.
