I know there is a thread back in 2007 about the same subject, but I think it was executed poorly. Anyone with enough common sense and a little research will come to a general conclusion that something of great significance will either start taking shape around the dace 21 Dec 2012 or that something will culminate at that date.

There are various documentaries around on DVD and books that speak about it to great detail. This isn't some conspiracy theory bull**** like "The Jews did 9/11" , "Goldman Sachs did the economic downturn" or "Nostradamus predicted the space shuttle". There a significant amount of evidence from olden times analyzed by people who have Ph.D's in several scientific fields.

I basically want to start a discussion about what you(those who care about the subject and want to have an intelligent conversation about it) think about it and your theories on the subject. I guess if there isn't enough discussion sysops can feel free to lock the thread.

One of the main reasons the date of 21 Dec 2012 is the end of the world, is the basis of the Mayan calendar ends on that date. I saw a documentary saying the poles are shifting and it'll be complete on tht day. This is supposed to cause an increase in natural disaters so alot of bad stuff may happen. Y2K was about computers not handling the change from 1999-2000 and shutting down. It had nothing to do with the end of the world. 12/21/2012 is the end of the myan calendar as well as the others. I can't remember how many or whose they are, but there is staggering evidence that Dec. 12, 2012 is a common date for the end of civilization. This means I won't have to Christmas shop that year.

Since the poles of the earth appear due to the rotation of the earth, and if the poles switched suddenly, that would mean that the earths rotation would have to switch suddenly. Since the earth moves so fast, this would probally destroy the world. Even brembos couldn't stop this fast. So if it happens, we are kaput. And quickly. The Mayan calender started when Kuculcan came down from the heavens and brought advanced knowledge and prosperity to the Mayan people. Their calender ends when he said that he would return. AD 2012. Kukulcan will come back to us. ie Day of undisputable Alien Revelation to the masses. I know it sounds crazy to those who dont believe in aliens, but those are people with their heads up their asses. Honestly, if the world does end around there, I think it will be because we do it to ourselves. So ya, if everyone panics, then the world will end. Heres how to survive.....Dont ****ing panic and dont be afraid.

Look at it this way. Its either the end or it isnt. If it is, then we are all ****ed so who the hell cares. and if were not, then carry on with life. The point is you shouldnt waste your life either way. Cuz 2012 may be BS, but you could get hit by a truck tomorrow, and that is the end of your world. Same result. You die. So enjoy life while you got it, and live a good life, and you will be fine in the end. No regrets, If death is coming at you, look it square in the eyes, smile, and say "bring it on"

And look at it this way, theres way worse ways to die than many of the things some people think might happen if it is the end. Would you rather die by being beheaded slowly on TV by Jihadi nutcases, or would you mind taking a solar flare to the chest like in "Knowing"

Would you rather be eaten from the inside out by flesh eating bacteria? or is being instantly incinerated by a meteor impact much more preferable.

There are way worse things that can happen, so just be grateful for some of the things u wouldnt have to go through if the world does end in an epic manner.

the '2012 theory' is one that needs to be taken a bit seriously, no matter what you think is actually going to happen. there are some simple facts, undeniable facts, that all seem to be pointing towards the end of 2012 being a very significant time in world history. what exactly is going to happen? i dunno. no one (or maybe only a select few? lol) knows for sure. what everyone should know, however, is that 2012 is in no way/shape/form anything remotely close to any other 'prediction' about Y2K or anything else. like someone else said above, this is not a stupid computer rumor snowballed out of control. this is a worldwide idea. an ancient as well as recent idea too.

there are seriously WAY too many references to 2012 to list them all and not many people here will take them seriously anyway, but the entire theory is just too 'coincidental' to just ignore. to me it's obvious. many very educated people are subscribing to the idea that 2012 will not be a singular HUGE worldwide event that changes mankind violently, but rather a significant event at the culmination of smaller events that pushes the world into a truly new era where the world will be different in a large way.

Yea I don't really buy into all of this stuff. Most religious articles IMO were written as stories and guides for belief, they don't really dictate how things happen. A handful of religious people like to take events that have happened and then work them around to try and say their religious article "predicted" this, but it's much easier to do so when the event has already happened and you have something to work with, I'm sure 99% of them wouldn't be able to predict what will happen when they wake up the next day, let alone events of such a large scale.

i'm am by far the most knowledgeable person on this subject... but i can apply some common sense.

the mayan calendar is a circle... it is therefore a cycle... apparently the main calendar is a 52 year cycle... the main calendar... get it... THE main calendar cycles every 52 years... the addition they made to this calendar to signify important dates (like our various holidays) is the one that cycles every few thousand years... or whatever it is. This addition to their main calendar is what is "ending" (it can't end, its a circle) in "2012".

There is no end of the world, nothing is going to happen... perhaps they were just smart enough to realize they won't need to have a calendar for millions of years because they wouldn't survive that long.

Besides... hasn't there been a prophesied dooms day every decade?

This planet isn't significant enough in the grand scheme of things to warrant such attention of interstellar and/or paranormal "games" such as these dooms day prophecies.

While I do believe something will happen, I have a hard time believing that it will be the "end of the world." This lining up up the earth, the center of the galaxy, and the sun happens every ~26k years, and there are a bunch of species that are more than 26k years old, so they obviously survived the last one. It probably will be the end of the world as we know it though, and something will probably change.
