I agree. The worst part about the Crab Run for me was being stuck behind Ray from RevItUp in his catless Cobalt SS. I was getting high ten miles into the drive.

I have one cat, but it'll be gone ASAP. I feel bad sometimes being totally ignorant to the environment, but eh.

Inspection is kind of a hassle...

GOOD point... that makes me feel better!!

right now i'm fully catless... was just supposed to be for the track, but it's too cold to swap back and i am enjoying the smoother acceleration...

I'm not a tree hugger so I don't care. In fact, my car was catless for a while too and might go that way again for the track this summer.

I will have to disagree with the above statement though. One car vs. one bus... yes. The problem is there are hundreds of cars for every one truck.

catless...
turbo'd hondes usually see 10-30 whp gain from going catless, and depending on the amount of power made

I have no cats. They are the weakest link in the 7. You gain a TON of power when you take um out.

I'm catted now, and when I get a full exhaust I'll have a performance cat. I hate the way catless cars smell, and with a good performance one there's nearly no difference in power. And yes, I care about the environment some, so sue me. :)

Well my mustang has cats but that is because it's stock but I hope to switch it out soon with a Magnaflow catted X pipe. My camaro that I race though with a 383 has a 4" cat though. People tell me to yank it but I'm fine with it, plus a 4" inlet and outlet flowmaster muffler in the back.

A well tuned car really shouldn't smell bad even with no cats.
You couldn't even tell my 95 GT was catless.
The 02 GT will be getting a pypes settup with cats soon, 2 high flow cats (instead of my 4)on an x pipe for 259$ mustang parts are dirt cheap:P

Catless here too! Im amazed at the many 'pro-catless' people that are on here--go to NASIOC and everyone guilts you if you are running catless, citing fines and the environment. its to the point where I am afraid to tell anyone I am catless because I am used to so many bad reactions.

With an " cobb universal map-vf34" my cattless car did have more "fumes" because it was running rich (cobb safe maps). Now, with streeTuner and custom tune it is much better. FYI , One reason i decided i did not want "cats" was because the wrx runs hot (turbo cars) and cattless realy did make a difference in engin compartment temp's, especially the uppipe. IMHO.

......... if they find you driving without a cat or a gutted cat you will get fined (alot of money) and will have to have a cat put on or your car impounded. if they find the place that un-installed or gutted your cat the shop is fined and usually losses its liscense.

having a catless car is very illegal. if you think cops dont care you dont know what your talking about.

as with most situations, it most likely depends on the individual officer and how far in depth they want to go and/or what you were doing wrong in the first place.

the point im trying to make is, they can F your day up if they catch you without a cat. they have their own little task force which focuses on just this issue. anyone that works at a garage that does emissions knows how serious the consequence is. im just trying to get out there that its not some laid back situation so people are more prepared when it comes to making the decision to go catless or if they get pulled over for it. if the cops near you dont care thats awsome but around me i know to keep my shat legal in the eyes of the law :D

I heard certain roads in NJ were strict, too. Not sure if they are still like this. And if a cop is following you it is easy to tell. So I would rather not have to worry about that sort of stuff. But it is nice to know that Newtown can be tough about it too.

Not that I would ever drive the DSM into newtown....

the galant and bmw are catless but the galant has a 3" magnaflow cat waiting for it. Already been pulled over by the NJ state police for a loud exhaust....on 78 of all places. the cat should quiet it up and make it legal for inspection since I've never done that...ever. :D

DSMs are loud for some reason. That is one of the reasons I went with a cat too, and a superterd muffler (read: restrictive).

any trips into sussex county require a satellite phone, 1 week supply of food/water, extra fuel, space heater, rifle w/extra ammo and sleeping bags.

Dont catless cars tend to bend valves more frequently?? it is to my understanding that most motors require some back-pressure to perform optimaly

The reason my car is the way it is (cat and as quiet as a 3" can be on a DSM) is because we were in the Boston, Ma area for a while and they were just starting to crack down over there as we were getting ready to move down here. DSMrs were reporting that they were getting pulled over all the time for exhaust noise violation. And up there it was an insurance surchargeable offense. One guy was paying close to $2k more on his insurance a year just because he got pulled over for his exhaust once.

I agree with that, and the fact that the less back pressure on a turbo makes it spool quicker. But what about n/a cars, that is what the majority of people drive.

low back pressure on an NA car will result in horrible torque losses.
