Looking to beef up the internals on a K20a2. posted this question on k20a.org but got no answers so im trying here. any help is awesome, im not too familiar with engine internals. what parts should i buy (valves, rods etc.)?

Why do you want to "beef"" them up?

Depends on what your trying to do with the car. If ur going f/i i don't suggest raising compression u want to lower it. Wiseco sells low compression pistons for the Type S motors. However you can always change over to the Type R interals that have more aggresive cams and higher compression, but that's if your going all motor.

Go get about 2 pounds of hamburger meat and mix it up with 2 quarts motor oil in a blender. Change your oil using the beef/oil concocktion.

Consider your internals beefed.

LUL <3 you Brian. The reason you didn't get an answer on K20 is because you asked a really really broad question. What's your goal with this?

LOL. That's awesome.

not really sure why you'd need better internals in a k20a, they're pretty stout as is.

yep, sorry guys, that was a pretty broad question. i really wanna go the turbo route. a couple people i know were saying that the k20 internals were kinda weak? dunno, just wanted a general opinion on parts to get.

btw, that beef and motor oil comment was awesome. totally made my night

If you want to get your motor ready for boost, pistons at a minimum. Rods depending on the motor, don't know much about K20s...

Head should be fine but a bigger cam would definitely help

Honestly unless ur running crazy boost i dont think its necessary u can get kpro which can help u out with tuning uso u wont blow ur **** up

Dude they're DOHC lol

Defiantely want to lower compression, try a thicker headgasket, ARP headstuds, and look into rods and pistons, Manley, Weisco, CP, or Crower (if they make them) are 4 companies that come to mind first for quality parts in that general parts area.

Don't forget that youll also probbably need a clutch, as well as exhaust, oil lines, etc.etc. but I'm sure you knew it was more complicated than just slapping on a turbo and driving away anyway. Expect to drop quite a few stacks on a properly done k20a2t, a good quality good sized turbo new will cost you almost $1000 itself plus about the same for rods/pistons/headgasket/studs and then install, and then the manifold and pipes and clutch and IC and tubes, coolant lines, new ECU, tuning, and everything in between I'd say you're looking at at least 4-5k to have it done right. Figure out if it's worth it or not.

That doesn't mean anything, sohc KAs make more torque than dohc KAs. I don't get how this is relevant.

how much power are trying to make how much money? you can slap a turbo kit run couple psi with a good tune have a fun car, or fully built 500hp monster.

I know, you just said get a Cam, not Cams, so I thought you didn't know the K20a2 was a DOHC motor which is why I said what I said.

HOw much power are you trying to make..? Less than 450whp the stock internals will do you fine. If you are looking to make over that then 9:5:1 or 10:1 Pistons and Rods, and Arp headstuds would be a good start.

i agree i had the 9:5:1 when i was boosted and i worked out well. it really depends on what you want to do with motor long term i would get pistons rods blah blah blah after you figure out how much boost you want to run and how much power you want to make.
