unfortunately, there are not many options for the B5 2.8.
what year is it? 5spd or automatic?
the only exhausts i have heard in person are the following:
1. milltek
2. custom 3" on a supercharged 2.8
3. magnaflow muffler (essentially axle-back, i don't remember the cross-sectional area)
what sounds "best" is very subjective as you know. IMO, the milltek sounded the best. unfortunately, it ain't cheap. i think it runs $999-1050 or so.
if budget isn't an issue, i say go for it. if budget is an issue (and when is it not, right?), then i say look for a used one on audiworld or audizine or have a custom one made. the advantage of the latter is that you can kinda tinker with things and get a sound you really can settle on for probably a fraction of the price of even a used milltek.
hth somewhat.

milltek's do sounds sick ! but you get what you pay for in the long run

i agree but, unlike most other performance mods, there is a strong argument for "cutting corners" in terms of cost. in the end, if you don't have the other mods to complement it, an exhaust is mostly about the sound. now, granted, one shouldn't go the cheapest route and end up with more headaches down the road with exhaust leaks, broken hangers, etc.
for the 2.8, if budget is not an issue, i say get the milltek.
if budget is an issue, i would look into magnaflow or custom setups. there is plenty info on what folks have done on audiworld (as well as audizine).

i don't think you can run the full exhaust but the rear section should be compatible. i don't know for sure 100% but folks on az or aw will be able to confirm for you, OP.
man, i miss my b5 s4....

idk, there was recently an audi performance exhaust system that went on sale from audi of america for 200 that everyone was jumping on to get.
it is listed as for the 2.8 A4 but also fits the S4.
why would you miss a B5? ha i hate my S4

yeah. it is the nature of the 2.7tt...or VAG cars in general....or most cars. LOL.
as long as the turbo lady is not paying you a visit, there is some relief though the paranoia continues....
back on topic:
OP, what exhaust options are you looking into now?

I have magnaflow too and love it, you can usually get a used one on ebay or cragislist. I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Magnaflow 13970 (http://magnaflow.allexhaust.com/product.php?productid=6838?odc1l=13970). Also some of the forum sponsors selling magnaflow (http://magnaflow.allexhaust.com)*usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great cat, sounds great, and very easy to install.
