Congrats on the car again. Already modding eh? You certantly don't waste any time. Fog delete is good. They block the oil cooler a little too much imo. Can you elaborate on the stage II clutch. I'm sure your stocker will be fine for a while. I would go with a set of swifts instead of coils. Good luck with it.

Didn't read much of the OP's first post did you. No need for a clutch on a brand new car when the stocker is just fine.

Maybe you need to take a closer look at how long the stock evo x clutch lasts and it's warranty.

To sum it up for you Mitsu spec'd a soft clutch in hopes of only having to occasionally honor a warranty (<12k) for a clutch over an expensive awd transmission. They know people will launch it and it absorbs the abuse instead of the transmission.

Better off getting an Exedy stage 2 or something similar quality. I hate replacing clutches in 15K.

Fujito
07-08-2009, 11:16 AM
What he meant was that I listed all future mods on the bottom of the OP.
I'll pick up a stage II clutch when mine wears out. I'll also do an Ivey tune once I buy all my bolt ons.

This is going to be a relatively quick build. I think I'll be done in about 6 months.

I'm ordering my next batch of mods next week. Probably the JUN front lip and side skirts and a few cheaper ones since those two mods alone cost around $2,500.

Lmao @ your assumptions. Your one of those guys that hears about an evo clutch failing in a few thousand miles and take it as fact for every evo clutch there is. There was a thread on evom about an owner going to the strip twice in one weekend and roasting his clutch in 2k miles. So a lack of driver mod plus thirty clutch eating launches and it's fact across the board lol. Why in the world would anyone change a brand new clutch aside from a full race build which isn't happening. I have a stg 4 making 350-370 + 30 plus launches for 2 years but what would I know.

If its the same precision tuning that used to be in Langhorne/Levittown I'd stay away, far far away. :bigeek:

My SWIFT springs will be here on the 18th.

Tires are Nitto NT05 and I'm getting Neochro R40's.

Just got done talking to Robispec and I'll be getting my fenders rolled on the 24th. I talked to someone at Autozone and he said that the price is worth it since he's seen some DIY jobs start to rust and crack.

Anyway, I just ordered another part today. This one was in stock, so I don't have to wait a month for it to come from Japan.

4. Colt Speed white front strut bar
5. Colt Speed red engine cover
6. Colt Speed carbon fiber pillar cover
7. Varis carbon fiber hood

and things that I might buy now, or might wait a couple months:
-Colt Speed hood dampers
-ARC 1.3 radiator cap

Fuel: Deatchwerks 1000cc injectors and Ultimate Racing's fuel pump kit(it comes with the fuel pump and the housing to install) This will be more than enough fuel for your set-up which seems like at most a 60lb/min turbo.

Meth: AEM, Snow, and Cooling Mist I hear are ok. Run a 50/50 mix. I have a coolingmist trunk mount on my X and it works fine. I also used a Snow Kit on my Eclipse for 3 years with no issues.

Cams: I have 272 Brain Crowers with springs, but I have not put them in yet. Cosworth Cams are great though.

Clutch: I have been running a Clutch Masters stage 3 which supports 575 lbs tq. It has a great price tag and has proven strong for about 10K miles w/o any signs of wear. I have not had issues with my clutch master cylider going as well. It seems to happen a lot with the heavy clutches like ACT and the Exedy twin. I would reccomend running a flywheel if you're doing your clutch.

Internals: I would not spend money on internals the 4B11T's weakness are the rod bolts. Your turbo will be stressing to put out 500whp @ 35psi and meth on a mustang dyno. I would just do rod bolts, main studs, and head gasket.

Also you should run the ETS stock replacement turbo manifold too. It will work with any stock replacement turbo.

Just some of my reccomendations good luck with the build though.

Fujito
01-10-2010, 02:34 PM
What kind of gains would I see with the ETS turbo manifold? Is it worth it?

Lately I've seen some people having problems with Deatchwerks injectors. What do you think about the HKS 1000cc ones?

What do you think about the JUN cams? They have 3 different specs: stage 1, stage 2, and stage 2r. What's the difference between stage 1 and 2? I don't know much about this stuff since this is my first real car build.

First you need to ask yourself what goals you want for your car.
How much power do you want to run ?

I think HiBoost (user name) on evom posted results. You should see around 25-30whp with quicker spool. I would definitely do the manifold only if you're going to upgrade the turbo.

I have not heard of any problems with Deatchwerks as many people have been using them. I did not know HKS had injectors out. Just make sure they are plug and play b/c the RC injectors require a relay where as the Deats did not. I've been running them for months with zero issues. More than likely the problems have been from a bad install.

JUN makes great quality products. A little pricey, but they perform well. Most staged cams have these lift durations: Stage 1=260 Stage 2=272 Stage 3=280. If this is a daily driver go with a stage 1 or stage 2. Every manufacturer reccomends running their valve springs with the Stage 2. While Stage 3 is a must you have to run springs. Remember your idle gets real lopey when increasing duration. I would reccomend Stage 1(260 lift) if you're not going to increase the rev limit. I went with the 272s(stage 2) b/c I am increasing my rev limit to 8500 and its my daily driver. My 35r will continue to make power at 8500.

My goal is around 450 WHP.

I'll have to look into that turbo manifold. What do you think about intake manifolds, like the Blitz and Cosworth one coming out next month? LVS said that he saw between 30-40 wtq gains with his Blitz surge tank. The Blitz one costs $2000 and the Cosworth one will cost $1100. I think the main difference is that the Blitz is polished inside.

LVS said that he saw between 30-40 wtq gains with his Blitz surge tank. The Blitz one costs $2000 and the Cosworth one will cost $1100. I think the main difference is that the Blitz is polished inside.

I believe hiboost was running the full race manifold not the ETS. Either way both are great manifolds. If you want 450whp you might not even need to do the intake manifold. I am still using my stock one. I have not looked into manifolds, but both seem to be good options. Cosworth makes excellent products as does Blitz. What you have to justify here is what extra amount of hp/tq will you extract with the extra $900. There was a guy that had a set-up similiar to mine installed and tuned at Ivey and he was running an $18,000 Cosworth Race Engine. So Cosworth definitely knows the Evo X well.
If you get a turbo like an FP Red or something around 60lb/min you will easily see 450whp with: 800cc injetors, 255lph intank pump, meth, 260(Stage 1 Cams), and turbo manifold.

Thanks man.

So how's this list look RU? Missing anything?

-CBRD BB-X turbo
-AMS widemouth downpipe o2
-AMS test pipe
-ETS turbo manifold
-Cosworth stage I cams
-Cosworth intake manifold
-HKS 1000cc fuel injectors
-HKS forged wastegate actuator
-HKS fuel rail
-Walbro fuel pump
-ACT street clutch (maybe Exedy)
-Aquamist meth kit
-SSP master cylinder upgrade
-Buschur center differential pins upgrade
-Blitz suction pipe
-gauges

This list will easily make your 450whp power goal. Make sure you get a Walbro intank pump. I know Ultimate Racing has a kit with the pump and housing. You will need some kind of housing for the fuel pump or it will wiggle around inside the factory housing. As far as gauges a wideband and boost is really all you need. Other than this looks like its going to be a great build with huge tq numbers. Can not wait to see it once its done.

Cams are not really rated for a specific power level. When choosing a cam it is important you choose one based on the use of the car. You will need to upgrade the springs with these cams as they are around a 272 lift. You can run this cam as you will see a good jump in mid range power. You will have a noticeably rougher idle with these cams. So just be prepared for that. I will be running a cam like this. It all comes down to driveability and use of a car with cams. If the rough idle will not bother you than do it. If you think it will be a problem than go with the stage 1s. You will not notice a big difference in idle with a 260 lift.

Fujito

A brand new set of JUN stage 2R 272/272 camshafts, titanium valve springs, and titanium valve retainers came up for sale at a huge discounted price.

Looks pretty good. http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-x-dyno-results/470257-cbrd-bb-x-e85-83-whp-peak.html

They dyno stock X's at 215-230 WHP, so it reads pretty low.

Now I'm just waiting to see the results on pump gas. I'll be running my cams and meth, though, along with some other mods that are not in the car tested.

Good news:

After 6 months of waiting APR has finally released a revised version of their carbon fiber vortex generator for the Evolution X.

The original had fitment issues around the base of the antenna. You can see it pops up in the picture below. I had a shop put in some foam in the gap to make it look flush.

http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr247/Fujito89/IMG_2611.jpg

I was probably APR's worst nightmare across the Evo forums regarding this since there was a large interest for a vortex generator. I bitched and bitched about the fitment until they finally agreed to redo it.

So as soon as I send mine to them they'll send me the new one. The only problem is getting the thing off. It's attached with 3M tape, but it's freezing outside. Anyone have a heat gun? lol

And here's GST's dyno showing the gains with the new CBRD BB-X turbo

This is with E-85. It has all the basic bolt ons and supporting fuel mods EXCEPT a test pipe (which would yield greater gains).

Stock vs BB-X turbo on same car.

http://norcalmotorsports.org/users/bryan/mods/EVO/evo_tunes/Evo10_BBK/Evo10_BBK_E85_012310.jpg

if you get that bride seat you should get a black seat with grey gradient inserts. red is too gaudy with this car IMO. the mods fit and match so perfectly i feel red interferes with the cleanliness.

Hmm perhaps perhaps. I never did think about that. I've actually been thinking about getting ones with the kevlar back so I can justify buying two, which would cost the price of one of the Maziora ones.

yeh. dont get me wrong i love red bride interior's Dmoney's was sick and CarbonIS has it in his now but idk why i think it would be too much in your car and i think the black/grey inserts is perfect for your X.

Yeah, this + test pipe + cams will make my very quiet JDM exhaust a little louder and make some pretty decent gains, especially after I upgrade the turbo.

ECU tune at Ivey. Should be around 100 HP faster.

I'm still waiting on 9 parts though. All together since January I've ordered 14 parts. I'm not playing NO MORE YO. Come summer time the serious stuff will be ordered.

Do you plan on tracking the car at all? or just be a beast cruisin around

Fujito

Honestly I'm not an amazing driver. This is my first stick. I'm working on heel-toe. I'd like to get some driving lessons in the summer at the track and do some Auto-X a few times. This won't be a drag strip car.

sleeperSL2
02-05-2010, 10:03 PM
I figured it wouldnt be a drag car. thats cool. i've said it before, ill say it again, everything you do flows so nice, nothing that stands out and is flashy, everything is clean.

Fujito

The Varis hood is very aggressive looking. And canards overall are an acquired taste, so it won't necessarily be clean anymore. And if I go with the 1700mm Voltex wing down the road... well it will be more crazy than clean looking.

Currently talking to Forged Performance about getting another set of Volks

The chances are slim, though. RAYS does not usually agree to do one wheel in a custom color. They have some already, but they did it for a G37 group buy so the offset is not aggressive enough.

So I washed off all of the salt today. Yesterday I did find one of the rear panels popped out of place. I pushed it back in and thought there was no damage.

There is though. Scuff marks. Someone must've bumped that part of my car.

I'm pretty sad, but I'll take this as a reason to get a new rear bumper. I'm ordering the Valdi Sport Test & Service rear bumper. It will unfortunately take 4-8 weeks to get here from Japan, and it's expensive, and it's unpainted.

http://i488.photobucket.com/albums/rr247/Fujito89/damage3-1.jpg

This is the Valdi Sport Test and Service kit. I'm just getting the rear bumper.

I would offer my services, but it looks to be a good bit of paint physically missing unless it's just a light colored scuff. Sucks to see though!

Fujito
02-12-2010, 05:37 PM
Thanks Oakes. Yeah, I don't think this can buff right out.

I got my quote from Vivid so far. Now I'm just waiting for Bullet Proof. I don't think the price will be that different between the two.

Oh, and I ordered another thing from my main distributor, Driveline, while talking on the phone about the rear bumper. Some Blitz engine bay bling.
