View Full Version : Ivey Tuned Evo 9
2.0Slow?

Ok, So me and a couple of my friends decided to take our friend ally and her new evo 9 that she picked up to sean ivey to get her car tuned. We all heared great things about him and expected alot! Her car pulled decent numbers but the service was awful! We waited for Mr.Ivey for over 2 hours and then when he got there he informed us that we were not to take any pictures or video of the car on the dyno or any other car there and that if he saw a camera that he would throw us out! So we became pretty pissed. To top it all off my friend Ally is knew to the car world and they tried to rape her for all she is worth! they wouldnt let me look at the car when they found a supposed boost leak and they wouldnt even inform me on wether they messed with the timing or even how much boost the car was tuned at. Overall we were pissed with the expereince especailly when you pay $650 for some guy to beat the **** out of your car:mad: So if you want to get your evo tuned I say that ivey is an asshole, especially his one one tech named will. but the numbers were good so i guess in the long run thats all that matters.
The evo9 has..
Megan RacingTurbo back exhaust with a high flowcat
Injen hard pipe kit
And Megan racing headers
We came there and dynoed at 273wheel
first pull after the tune the car made 300 wheels
The last tune the car made 340 wheel with 351 tourqe:mrgreen:
That was at 21pounds and on 23 pounds the car should make 365!
Which seems to be impressive.

Should have searched around on here or Evolutionm.net and saved a few hundred dollars by having Petey Turbo aka APAT tune it.

Ya i was just dissapointed in the way they did buisness. Evolutionm.net really praised him hard core so we went with him and thats the last time. The numbers however seemed to be decent considering the minor mods.

The numbers are decent for the money put into the car and the conservative tune but you obviously don't seem happy with the way everything else was dealt. If you would have asked around in the Northeast (local) section you definitely wouldn't have been referred to Ivey.

Ivey is a legend in his own right, and I really don't think it was too much to ask for there not to be photos or video taken so that one of his trade secrets didn't accidentally get out, and since you were the one seeking him out, and not vice versa, you kinda have to respect that. However, I have heard that he is always late and uuber conservative on many occasions, so it's on you if you didn't do the research.
At the end of the day, though, she got an Ivey tune and got at least, if not more than the results that she was looking for.

yeah ivey might be a legend but i think you could have went somewhere else that would have had better customer service and a better overall experience. not to mention going somewhere else might have made sure you didnt get a block tune on your fuel and timing maps lol.

You probably would have been better off asking in the "ecuflash" section:eek: as there are quite a bit more knowledgable users in that section:)

Everybody has to deal w/ bad customer service sometime. People also tend to freak out and take things personally when rules and regulations are thrown at them though. Not saying that's you and your friends but don't take it personal. I wasn't there so I can't elaborate further. Bad customer service/attitude always catch up to you in buisness. Just ask David Buschur.

oh he went there.
Yea prettymuch. He realized that his attitude was getting worse and there needed to be a change. Said it himself. Personally I have no problem with him.

Ya i mean we are all easy going basically it came down to his tech name will who was a major ass. Basically talking down to us not really giving us the time of day. He kept on trying to act like things were wrong with the car and that we had to fix them right there for an insane amount of money when i knew they were easy fixes that did not effect the tune at all. He even came up to ally and was like " I can tell you that your motor is not 100percent but im not telling you anything else since you dont have any money other then the money for the tune". We were all just like get out of here bro were here for ivey not you. The numbers are great and ivey was pretty good, but it was slightly dissapointing. And since im new to tst wasnt really sure were to post questions on tunning (im kind of a vwvortex guy). Thanks alot for all the input just wanted to share my thoughts just incase any of you were looking around for a good tune.

My answer would be yes. It takes a lot to swallow your pride and admit your failings on a site as big as evom. I think his success went to his head just like it can to anybody else.

Wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last. Sorry you had to deal with that BS.

Ivey is getting the same big head that bushur had, but where are all theese super fast ivey cars. When he tuned my car he stopped and said it was good enough power. We hit around 18 psi on the tune I must say I was a bit angry and when the car goes back together it will not be tuned by him.

the days when 'tooning' was a black art filled with smoke and mirrors are long over. Now everything is open source and anyone with half a mind and the desire to learn can tune their car until their little hearts content and get the EXACT same results.
Ivey isn't doing anything magical with his 'toons'... nobody is, there is only "so" much power you can safely extract from any setup.
why anyone would put up with the kind of service the OP did is beyond me.

The Ecuflash section especially the stickies on EvoM are very usefull. I'm humbled on how dumb I feel when browsing that section.

Well as long as she's satisfied and happy with her car then all is well in the world. This thread has some good info for her to start from. I would just set up a link but I'm on my phone. Fixed.

1. set A/F ratio to 11.5 under boost
2. add timing 2 degrees at a time until you see/hear signs of detonation
3. ???
4. profit
I dont know why some of these guys get as big of a reputation as they do. To me a good "tuner" is someone who has great trouble shooting skills and is able to diagnose whats holding the car back and give me a good explanation to make sure that I understand what the problem was. Not someone who just manages to pull some impressive peak number from one dyno pull.

I think its hilarious that they were like "oh your **** isnt perfect....i know whats wrong but since you dont have the cash i wont even tell you" Any GOOD shop will let you know whats wrong with your car so they can gain your trust/respect to become a repeat customer. Obviously they dont show that there because "OMGZ ITS A IVEY TUNE" blow that one up your ass. Not only did you waste big money, but you could have gotten the same results if not better, for a cheaper price and with WAY better customer service that will actually help you in getting your car running 100% so its in tip top shape.

I saw this thread and had to register and post. I had my car tuned by Sean Ivey after not going with Evans. He ended up waiting for me as I was in an accident on my way there. Getting directions to the shop, I have to admit they were not too good with that. Once I got there I had my car tuned I did go into the garage when answering questions Sean asked. He didn't act like it was a national security issue. I did ask for a conservative tune. I was happy with the service that day and left. I called him up about 4 weeks later when I was tired of problems with cold start and the car dieing when taking off from a light. He told me to bring the car whenever. About 2 weeks after that I made it up to his shop and he drove around with me while he was tuning the car. Took about a total 45 minutes with me from the time I got there to the time I left his shop and he did not charge me anything for the second visit. He has answered technical questions over the phone. He has never used a disrespectful tone with any conversation I had with him 6 conversations I guestimate although half were brief. Some of my questions were basic newbie questions. Just posting my experience. Maybe he had a bad day.
