Brake bleeding: bubbles after closing valve

Hey guys, I haven't been on here in a long time! I've got a really dumb question though...

I tried bleeding my brakes last night following the standard procedure: pump, hold, open & close valve, repeat.

After opening and then closing the bleeder valve (the first one I worked on) I was getting bubbles coming out and into the rubber tubing (after the valve was closed). Where the heck are these bubbles coming from? I don't remember this happening before... maybe I'm just not closing the bleeder valve enough? Any ideas?

do you have the tubing coming off the bleeder and into a container? Is the end in the container, submerged, or just hanging in open air?

Yeah, I had the tube submerged. I'm thinking that the valve is leaky and when the brake is released it is sucking air through the bleader threads, then when the pedal is pumped, it pushes the bubbles out the hose???

When you open the bleeder, the pedal will fall to the floor. If you keep the bleeder open for to long it can suck in air but not likely. Once the fluid is about to stop flowing, close the bleeder. Then you can release the pedal. If you're sucking in air through the threads, you have some serious problems with the caliper/bleeder.

other than what Sam said, you may not have a good seal between the tubing and the bleeder. You'd be surprised where air can go... obviously lol.. It's air.
