9.77 @ 144mph
Probably the best (and loudest) sounding Subaru I've heard. I heart straight pipes.
I just don't know why US tuners are so far behind the PRs (Gadiel) when it comes to HP. Many US tuners have the same blocks/turbos, but aren't making HP anywhere near this.

I have an Evo, not a DSM. If that question applies to the Evo, then yes they did. I think it was a little over 1 year though.

How many times do they break? They certainly aint consitant cuz at the shootout this year some were hittin 10's, then 13's. No doubt evo's are faster but they break to much. Also if im not mistaken we had the fastest car there that day, Gadiel Sti.

You sure did. I'll give you credit for that. But I've seen the AMS, Turbotrix, Dynoflash, and the Pruven Evo all run better times then the STI. And they are all driven on the street. Any car running those times is gonna break every once and a while. Anyway, sorry I said something about Evos. I see its a sore subject. No harm, no foul. Anyway, how about that sick STI. Yeah!!!!!!!

now that i watch the vid... was that a good launch? looks like he spun a good bit through (a very short) first gear. maybe with all that power that was about as good as you can get out of the hole. and the other thing i saw is it looked like he hit his brakes before he crossed the line? hard to tell from the way it was filmed though.
oh and i wanted to ask, whats the difference between the setup of the ESX and Big Valley cars? they look about the same to me but who knows whats inside.

hands down my favorite car- had the pleasure of seeing them win at the shootout this year- soo very awesome!

depends... did they have the slicks on? i know for this car, esp w/o slicks, it spins all 4 quite a bit. impressive, but def looses time.
i know at the shootout they wanted to put the slicks on b/c they knew they could go even faster, but were afraid to break something w/the slicks on... es possible!

The original point was that the 1G DSM was when the 4G63 first came out. The EVO using the same engine that already had a TON (10yrs worth) of available parts and info for it isn't really the same. The path had already been paved, making driving down it much, much easier.
STI had a completely new (to US) drivetrain and ECU. Most WRXs weren't anywhere near those times when it came out. Hardly anyone had more than 400whp on a wrx at the time and that was on C16. They've come a long way in a short amount of time. They still will always be playing catch up to the 4g63 though, until Suby guys start cheating with the new flat 6cyl. Couple cars already have em, but haven't been worked out yet.
As far as launching, they ran a 1.6 60ft which is just about as good as it gets. You will spin thru some gears with that amount of whp.
143mph is just insane. I got up to 120mph fooling around with a GTI today on the highway. It took me about 5 sec to reach only that speed from 60mph. This car does 143 in the 1/4.

Well if its the same engine, why do all of the tuners seem to be going down a totally different path as far as making them fast. Its a totally different car with a whole new set of challenges. And whose fault is it if they couldn't make the WRXs super fast. They are essentially the same car(STIs and WRXs). All that aside, if you would pay attention then you would have noticed that we squashed this about ten posts ago. Some people just can't let things go.

That video is awesome....

The evo 8 4g63 really isn't the same as the 1g or 2g DSM 4g63. For one it spins the opposite way. And there aren't that many interchangeable parts. I don't know the evos well but I can't think of any, lol.
So in this comparison the Evo platform was just as new to the US market as the Suby. The difference is there were many more Mitsubishi tuners eager to dive right in when the car landed on our shores.
Both cars have plenty of potential and it will be fun to pair them up against each other because in the end I think we all benefit from a little competitve rivalry.
Although, the reason I bought a WRX (which was traded in over a year ago) is cause I couldn't wait for the Evo... so technically speaking the subys had more time....

First pass was funny cause they line up next to an evo that bogged/stalled/whatever.
Next pass, HOLY COW, is that thing going through 3 gears before the 60ftr?
Amazing how fast the shifts are! What kind of mods does the tranny need to hold that kind of power. And how many gears total are there. Sounds like he finishes up in 5th... that is if he starts in 1st, lol.

EVO may break easily but they dont require $2000 for every 50hp worth of mods.
I'd take an EVO over a STi anyday.
That guy in the video was granny shifting when he should have been double clutching. It cost him 8's.

They are very secretive about what they are using. It is speculated that they are either on a dogbox equiped "stock housing" 6sp or just custom gears in the 6sp tranny. Not many know actually what they are using, but one thing is fo shizzle, it works and is very fast. They do finish in 5th and shifts are lightning quick. I've never seen someone drive a manual like that.
It takes big money to get any car to this point and keep it there with how many passes these guys do. Don't think that the AEM EVO has less than $20K in mods in it either. It takes big money for big HP.

Thats an awesome run, i believe i saw that somewhere before, maybe not. There is a write up about them on nasioc or clubwrx i believe, and they DO answer some questions about their setup. I cant remember too much right now, but i do remember saying that they are using a UTEC for engine management. I believe there is nitrous involved too, but i could very well be wrong. Search around, i know its in one of those forums somewhere. Nice vid!

i don't believe they use nitrous... i'll look for some backup, but the word at the shootout was that al's evo did, but big valley did not.

i saw the car that Ali drives a few years ago. at that time, it was a 3spd auto running 9s in the pro-street category. (pro-street means street worthy, full interior and glass.)

Oh yeah, I totally understand this, lol. Think you can just throw on a big turbo and run 10s all day. No way! To run any number takes a certain amount of money to build and maintain. The faster you go the more ridiculous that amount gets cause it is a very steep curve.
Still, it's awesome to see shifts that fast... on a fast car. Sure, a 15 sec DSM can probably shift just as fast. But start putting power behind it and those shifts just naturally get slower cause the tranny wasn't meant for it.
As soon as I can find an extra $6k I'm getting a doxbox for sure, lol.
