(see above)

Which system did you go with and why? Did you do the install or did you take it somewhere? If you took it somewhere, how was the experience / cost?

I am looking to do this as my next upgrade and would like to hear some opinions.

Thanks!

I'd PM WKderf. He is a wizard with that kind of stuff, and he put a remote start into his 5spd WRX.

3 outa my four doors had motors in them, so all they had to do was run a wire from the alarm to a motor they put it the drivers door.

There are shops that can install remote starts in manual cars but it requires rigging up a laser sensor or something so the remote start brain can see if the car is in gear or not.

remote starts on manual cars are NOT illegal, its just an insurance risk so most shops dont install them. pm or IM me and i can give you some direction as to the cost and advantages to some of the products out there.

It's not illegal. It's an insurance risk.

They could have you sign a form that says they're not liable for you neglecting to take the car out of gear before using the remote start.

You don't NEED to have a sophisticated laser sensor fingy to see if it's in gear or not...just wire it in as a clutch bypass. Same with wiring in a push-button to act as you pushing in the clutch.

My buddy who installs alarms and remote starts was the one that mentioned the laser sensor to me. It is there to help the company/person installing the remote start from getting sued cause it won't let the car start if it is in gear. Not even sure it comes with any of the remote start kits and instead is an add-on these guys rig up into the car which adds to the cost considerably.

Otherwise, it is easy enough to just disconnect the clutch switch and just wire it in like an auto.

Exactly, but they have to be careful, because you might not be able to start manually it if they mess up the wiring.

What do you guys think of the cheaper brand remot starts on ebay... i want one for the lincoln.. but dont want to pay alot of money. I saw one for 80 bucks that came with a do it yourself Cd remote start and keyless entry .. it seemed pretty nice.

Im in the middle of doing all my cars with remote starts. I have a friend who is a proffesional installer. he does them for $300 installed. You can not find anyone better and he is using a great product. His shop is in Trooper vicinity of Pa. He has an incredible resume and has instaled audio into Eagles and Sixers players trucks and mine. He does custom fiberglass work....etc.
Im trying to contact him right now, but i believe he told me most system are made by audiovox(?) and marketed under different names. He is using Prestige brand for my vehicles (2004 e.b. expedition. 2004 cherokee limited, 2004 wrx, 1998 tahoe, 2005 g35X-not doing). It's one of the better systems.

Anyone interested let me know and ill give you his contact info, this guy is REALY good and sets up "extras" that all shops charge more for as part of the normal install price! This system is $565 at c.c. or the like. Hes fixed alot of other shops screwups...lol.

FYI, i asked him about a friends manual , asper Mark, most facilities will not do the install for insurance reasons(as started). I dont know if it is illegal inPA or not.
