usually when the dealership does it, they etch the outside of the window.

what if I etch then get a tint? does that block the etching all together? I get a bit of a discount on insurance for stuff like that.

what does vin etching of the windows help? one of the easiest to replace items on a car. and if the car is stolen and parted out... you smash out the windows... no more etching.

How about etching other things? like the engine block, or interior body panels, your turbo, etc

sounds like a waste to me to be etching glass

true but if its free, which it is..... why not. They claim its too much time for the thieves to replace or fix before selling the car to chop shops and ****...

big discounts? hmmm. it does sound lame to get the windows etched considering it its easily replaced, but if its going to save me money on car insurance then hell yea ill do it.

too much time? it took thieves probably 2-3 seconds to smash my window, steal my GPS and be gone.

the police (and government) claim a lot of things which i don't believe.

Now, if there is an actual discount for having windows vin etched, sign me up... but etching them will do nothing when the car's parts are worth more than the glass in them.

they put a small number/letter combo on the outside, usually the bottom of the window, will not mess up tint, and if u get the windows etched, then get tinted, it will not touch it since tint goes on the inside.

I still have my old free vin etching kit. I wonder if insurance will give me a discount without a reciept. I could take pictures of the after.

I'm not sure if I even have the same car for the vin# anymore.

It came with a etching pen. My vin # printed on blue paper. (trace my vin# on? or as a guide?)
I guess I could just free hand etch my current cars vin#
