Ok, yall... I am itching to trade in my Tundra for something new. I am open to suggestions... Any help would be greatly appreciated (every time I ask Mike, he just says 'WRX Wagon'... I need a few more options!)...
Here's what I'm basing my decision on:
Price: not above $19k max
Performance: would like something that handles well and has a good amount of torque off the line.
Safety: I'm used to something big enough that if I get in an accident i won't become part of an accordion.
Please help!

thanks, pete...
I should also note what I'm currently interested in...

Toyota Matrix XRS (don't laugh)
Mazda 3
Lexus IS300 (if i can find a cheap one w/a manual trans)
WRX Wagon (ok, mike, i am considering it still...) the newest used one i can afford...
Toyota Tacoma Quad Cab (yea, i got a little diesel in me)

That's all i can think of for now.
HOLLA!

19k's my max- new or used... but my preference would be a new one... i can't touch a new wrx wagon, smarty pants... too much dough!

If torque is why you want, why not get an SRT-4???

Brand new - $21,000
Used (under 10,000 miles) - $14,000

You can't go wrong. Easy to work on. Torque and HP out the ass for the price. Lots of parts. VERY cheap. 7year 70,000mi warrenty. And with a couple hundred in strut tower braces, you have the handling that you want!

Plus, its still a full (sorts) sized 4-door sedan!

youll also have torque to the front wheels which isnt fun unless its not raining or snowing or wet out. youll be able to do cool smokies though. i guess i just dont like FWD because im not a 1320 man.

Oh and MOPAR PREFORMANCE!!.
Factory upgrades that are actually upgrades.

Try that with an EVO or STi. Your warranty will leave faster than Tijuana's water.

I can't wait until I can afford Mopar Stage 3R! 355 HP and 365 ft-lbs! And I still keep my warrenty!

Its just incredible that Dodge can do that. And to think I got screwed out of my Subaru warantee for having an exhaust and boost controller.....

Yea, I was skeptical to take my SRT to the dealership a couple months ago with all my mods. But they fixed the problem under warranty...woohoo. Great car for the price...strut bars, coilovers, and control arm bushings and it will handle very well. All depends on what your cup of tea is though, its not for everyone. In a perfect world I would have my SRT, an STi, an EVO MR, a BMW M3, an SVT Cobra, a '62 Impala (Pimp Juice), and a RAM SRT-10...one for every day of the week...LOL

Then on the other side I like the Mazda 3. I haven't seen one modified though, but I heard Mazdaspeed is supposed to release many many parts for the entire line of Mazda vehicles (3, 6, Protege, and RX-8). My friend just picked up a Mazda 6 last week. They have some program that can get anybody approved for one...dont ask me the interest rate though!

New SRT-4 vs. used WRX? Hmm... I'm not sure.

You could have a brand new car (SRT-4) for 20 grand and have piece of mind. Or a used WRX with great performance potential. Nothing beats all-wheel drive... it will out handle almost anything.

But then again, the average person on the street thinks the SRT-4 is just a regular Neon with a body kit. You could shock the hell out of people at the stop light and leave them saying to themselves, "What the hell was that?!"

Yeah CarWidow... you might want to check the SRT-4.

it all depends on the dealer...some dealers are evil, then u have others that will warranty anything we do to our cars.

and its always an added bonus to surprise people since most people still dont know wat an SRT is. which is why i tell everyone i drive a neon...LOL

what's the most amount of miles you want on the car?
what color did u want?

i know of a blue '02 WRX 5-speed w/bout 20k miles on it selling for $16,500 which is the price of a brand new Mazda 3. I have also seen a used '03 SRT for $17k with 9k miles on it or a used '05 for $19k with just under 2k miles on it.

used SRT range from 15k-19k...depends on mileage and the year.
'03s have smaller fuel injectors, lack the limited slip differential, and weaker axles (actually any built after April '03 have the stronger axles used in 04 and 05).

Vypurr
01-07-2005, 07:03 PM
Yeh. If you look into an SRT, I would not reccomend an '03, unless you want yellow (only made yellow in '03, blue in '04, and orange in '05).

But you can check out www.SRTForums.com, and find a mod friendly dealership near you. Great community, and for the price you can't beat it!

Stock for stock, I feel that the SRT is an overall better car than the WRX for pure power and speed. If you have tons of twistys, you may wanna get a WRX, its all preference, but I know that there is no better feeling than doing 0-130 that fast! lol. HEY! I just remembered...the SRT has no govenor on it, so you can do 160 STOCK! lol

Not going to happen. She really wants a "bigger" car, there's a fear of being jammed into a little metal coffin. I would be afraid of the engine chasing me around the interior as well if you hit something. Those things are TINY!!

speaking of Mini Coopers...Psi Fi Motorsports located in good ol South Jersey have developed a turbocharged Mini that should run 11secs. We shall see in the spring! They're the SRT Specialist. They have a street SRT that should be running 10s this spring and a race SRT that should be 9secs or less that is still being built. I saw the turbo they will be using, its the size of my head!!!

i'm tellin u...get a small nuclear reactor, and u could spool that thing up instantly...ZERO LAG!!! The only problem is that your axles would have to be the size of tree trunks and u would most likely melt any tire u attached.

I'll have to put my vote in for an SRT-4 also. From what I've seen they are a very easy car to make fast. There big enought to be comfortable in too. I also like the WRX wagon but hmm, there is just something about the Dodge that I like better. Don't you already have one WRX anyway.

MuddyREX
03-22-2005, 10:22 AM
Yep, she does have a WRX.

This thread was started in January when she was looking for a new car, she has since bought the wagon. She is not looking for another car as far as I know.
