My girlfriend autocrosses her 08' Jetta which I co-drove at one event last year when my Cobra was down so feel free to ask me any questions you may have :)

Is there certain stuff that you need to do to your car? mine is stock except for exhaust.

Here's Perry's novice check list...

and here is a bunch more great info he's compiled for novices...

Don't get overwhelmed though, as long as your car is safe you can pretty much just arrive, pay, and have a BLAST!

I can't really suggest a cheap helmet as it's your only head going into it and there's no reset button if something goes really bad, they will have loaner helmets at the events so use them for a few times to see if you like it and then if you do you have the perfect justification to thump down decent money for a good Simpson or G Force helmet.

I second that, helmets are not something you want to cheap out on.

Good info Ciotti.

Perry also has all of the nearby regions' schedules here:

http://autox4u.com/schedule.htm

Make sure to visit Philly Region as well. Larger lots (Warminster air field & Citizen's Bank ballpark) than NNJR or SJR...

Philly Region's site has lots of info here:

http://forum.phillyscca.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4273

and a 2009 schedule here:

While it's not a high end ultra lightweight Arai ($700+ to $1200) I really like my Pyrotect, it's reasonably light, well made, tested and reviewed quite well, a little bigger eye opening than many, well ventilated, and reasonably priced ~$250.
