View Full Version : sooo...if you had 15k what would you buy?

If i was to be getting a new car i'd be looking to spend around 15k (13-17 actually) I can't decide what i would get lol. I've found some EVO's for around there, and obviously there are a plethora of WRX's and SRT-4's. Obviously you could build a cooler car that would be cheaper and faster and all that other good stuff but i'm not looking for that.
so basically this is seeing what would you guys get?
THIS ISN"T A WTB AD LOL

that sounds like what i would do if i had a bike or a fast project car.
personally i wouldn't know how to spend it either. at this point i would say i'd spend the $15k on other things/interests besides a car so i have no idea.
it all depends what you want to do with the car. for $15k you can have damn near anything you want if you're buying used and a few years old.

honestly if i were you, i'd hold onto that money and wait a few more months even, and in that sense the economy should be even more in your favor. obviously i'd get an evo, if you wait it out a little you might even be able to snatch up an ix in that price bracket.

Seeing how I don't need another car, I'd go for a built 2JZ stroker motor and I'd have enough left over for some gas.
We have an '04 TSX since new and they are a very nice, reliable, and even somewhat sporty 4dr sedan; I'm often surprised how well it handles with the upper & lower A-arms all around; it's well appointed, quality built, typically with lower cost of ownership than a Bimmer. And as stated above, it won't make a great "hot rod" so it's less tempting to mod the hell out of it.
i would love to see that mini mentioned above. Id probably shoot for an r32 or gti. ive always favored those cars. or rock a rabbit :D haha

Bike. Save more then 15k to get a broader range of choices. 15k is nice, but alot of the stuff you would find have respectable mileage. Have to remember, the 02-05 WRX's are getting... semi old. I mean an 02 is 7, and an 05 is 4 years old. Yea that isn't much time but... shrug depends on the cars life and who drove it. When you go to buy a car that is from a dealer, you really don't know how many of the previous drivers drove it hard, or soft.
If I had 15k, I would have a project L turned LSTi.

i agree with most people, but i was talking about buying a car, not getting an FD then putting an LS1 in it, or building a 2j up from the ground. like cars that around that you would buy. like newer cars.
I do like the Idea of the TSX. I don't currently have 15k to spend, was just getting peoples opinions on what newer cars they would get lol

The evo's i have seen for 15K aren't good deals imo plus your going to be looking to mod or fix them after the purchase so i'd hope you have more money put away. I really like srt4's but at this point i'd probably wouldn't but one for my only car. I've been thinking this over myself lately and i think I'd be interested in a cooper S with tasteful boltons or just a completely stock car with nice options to just drive without any problems.

So many cars I want in that price range. First being a FD Rx7 and KEEPING the rotory and never drop a domestic engine in it  and some others like mentioned -
15k ish would get me a
-SC300 (2J/1J Turbo swap)
-LS400 (lower it and chill)
-A s13 / s14 with many mods done allready to get started
-FD rx7 with enough money left over to get a standby engine on the side

Its all about ur taste dude. If u want a hardcore fast car, go for an Evo, 350Z, Vette, STi, Cobra Stang, etc. But if u want something fast and refined a bit with some potential, Subaru Legacy GT, Mazdaspeed 6, BMW M3, Audi S4, Lexus IS300s and GS300s have huge potential (if ur willing to do the supra swap). This is a total buyers market if u have the money, u can get alot for it. take the time to choose wisely though

fastest stock car that you can buy for that money would be a GTO. ive searched for a while.. and something with low miles and pretty reliable would be a gto.
The 5.7L ones you can get for less than that, and if you look hard enough you could probably even get the 6.0L one with 400hp/400tq+ for that money.
2005 GTO (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?ct=u&car_id=260369433&dealer_id=5949001&car_year=2005&rdm=1239173583115&model=GTO&num_records=25&systime=&make2=&highlightFirstMakeModel=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&keywordsrep=&engine=8+Cylinder&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=100&marketZipError=false&search_lang=en&showZipError=n&make=PONT&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&seller_type=b&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceASC&address=07024&advanced=y&end_year=2010&doors=&transmission=Manual&max_price=&cardist=50&standard=false)
65k miles, great condition, comfy and nice interior with bucket seats, V8.. LS blocks are very strong too, easily daily-able.
Best HP for the money.
this one is $17k, but you could probably haggle a bit to get it down to like $15.5
if not just go for the 5.7L ones.. those are easily under 15k.

If it hasn't been stolen from Patterson it's not going to get stolen from anywhere.
yea seriously, plus who the hell would steel a skyline? what are you gonna do with it? sell it for parts to the 6 other skyline owners? drive around in the US's most easily spotted car?

I had been shopping around for very similar criteria and price recently, and ended up getting an 06 Saab 9-3 2.0T with 20k miles, basically fully loaded. For the money, its a very nice car, and since then the prices have dropped on them even further. Plus, after a quick re-flash, the 2.0T is putting out almost 250 hp, 290 ft-lbs and still gets 35 mpg or more on the highway (thats what i just got going from NJ back to MI, driving at about 75-80 the whole way). For the price, it definitely seemed like the most car for the money as long as you still have a project car, and they're pretty unlikely to have been ragged on or abused like a $15k evo, sti, or srt-4 would have been.

if i had 15k right now i would put it all toward my school loans to take a few years off or pay off my car becasue thats a high monthly payment and higher interest rate. either way if i had 15k id pay off loans

i really like the new expoler in that black v6 and 2wd with no options. i would put 1k down take a loan out on the rest slam it to the ground, 351sbf do forged pistons and rods,BIG cam, cai, alum heads ported, larger size turbo setup, fmic painted black to keep it a sleeper, 3 inch exaust that dumps out behing the rear wheels right under the quarter panels no chrome tips, real torque thrusts(magnesium not aluminum 15x4.5 in front and 15x8 in the rear, tub it out and covered in carpet to look closer to stock,411s,and some piecrust slicks, get brakes to clear the rims, a cobra jet style welded to the hood and paint i flat black, tint the tails, recaros in black and do the same fabric and logos on the rear seats. i think it would be unique
