Does the DMV call you out if you have a bill of sale with a sale price way lower than the value of the car?

anyone have experiance with this?

thanks

could you just say there was something wrong with the car and it needs work to justify the price difference?

Depends on how low. If the car is older most DMV's wont care. I paid " $50.00" for my 240sx according to my bill of sale. I sold my motorcycle for 5700 and I wrote the bill of sale for 2500 to help the kid out a little. No one questioned that one either. Its matter of how far fetched it is. I was like yeah I bought this 240sx with a blown engine. It was also 15years old at the time. If you try that with a new car obviously worth then they may question it.

You can go as low as 10K on that. I had the chance to buy my boss's last year for 21K. Just say hes selling me this car, but it has a transmission or a clutch problem if they ask.

Just ask the seller ahead of time.

I did that a couple of times when I had a NJ license, they didn't care. But I heard of some people getting a bill in the mail for 10% of the blue book value. So hit or miss, I guess.

you can write any price as long as its a old car and yeah. example my 240 i "paid 500" on the bill of sale. old cars are more legit to do
