its the March Lion; a Time Trials, and PDX (Performance driving experience) event.

you don't need to be a member of SCCA as far as i know. But it does cost 200 bucks for the Performance Driving Experience.

Which is a competition free race around the track with an instructor.

I might go there and shoot some photos, but if there won't be a big turnout I don't want to trek all the way over there. .

What track were you on? I was at NJMSP yesterday with friends (Lee, Huff and Miles from RaceComp enginering notables) to race Carts. A LOT of fun! But that place was jamming with sick cars on both Lightning and Thunderbolt! I NEED to join.

Great pictures man.
ahhh, We were playing at the Carting track (frinds b-day). But we drove down, 5 realy fast baddass subies (400-->490 awhp with major suspension works, more than track worthy) just sitting there at the carting track...lol. I was hoping someone would come take my car on the track. WE were enjoying watching the cars flying on Lightning! My two friends with me are 20 year veteran driving instructors (Lee and Tim) at Glen and Summit and soon at NJMSP, so i have to join SOMETHING asap and get some track time. But honestly, racing the Carts is extremly fun and cheaper. But alas, My heart still belongs to racing bicycles and always will.

<---beat Huff and Miles (race comp enginering inc) pretty bad...:-p

^^oh yeah? They looked like a ton of fun, whippin around that track. I saw three guys at one point i think in black shirts standing at a fence, watching the race/throwing rocks at some tree.....lol was that you guys?

Only thing i wish they had up was the spectator benches they had last season....it made it kind of difficult taking pictures over that fence in some spots. Overall, it was a great day for racing though! When are you going again?

Saturday was the most fun I've ever had on a track. that lightning course is the bomb. I almost broke 150 on the long straight. :eek:

Yeah that would be awesome. I only have vid from my last two runs, even with my camera set to the lowest resolution they are still to large to upload. I will try to cut them into smaller sections tonight.

the cameras are nothing special, its a sony digi cam set to video for the incar and the gopro wide motorsports camera for the rear view.

I did another one last night from the 3rd session of the day. its uploading now.

no not at all, it is probably just poor GPS signal on those two stray tracks on turns 1 and 3

its just a windows mobile device running copilot live sat nav software. It logs GPS tracks, i like to use them to see what my entry speed into certain corners was.

only thing that sucks is when the car in front will not point you by. you didn't have any problems doing that though.

Yeah i never understood why some people don't point you by, I hate having a car up my ass (im sure you have no idea what that's like). Maybe they just don't watch their mirrors or maybe they think they are faster than they really are.

not really, i have another shot of him getting back on, i'll post that up soon. I was complaining to my brother how i couldnt see over the fence and missed your friend lose control. taught me to stop complaining and just shoot haha

yes he does go there a lot, he was the event chair for the PDX he was also on the green flag committee for the park when it was being built and is still very involved in the park so yes he is probably there more than most people. He also races formula fords , he is really an amazing driver i always try to get him to be my instructor when ever possible.
I tape up my plate for that very reason, i don't need my insurance finding out about my weekend activities ;)

ill be down for a cruise to the next event at NJMP. i couldnt really find anything in April, but the SCDA is holding one on may 4th. SCDA is usually a little pricey, but the benefit is smaller class size.

hey Mario, were u taking pictures at both tracks that day? after our event was done on lightning, i dove over to thunderbolt and as i head into the pits, on the other side of the garages was a Porsche, looked almost exactly like that white one a few posts up just silver, that slammed the inside wall heading onto the main straight. air bags went off and everything. it was pretty bad. just wondering if u got any pics of that car.

Turns out that isn't the spin that earned him the note in his log book, but rather a solo spin in turn 6....he said he was trying to take a different, faster line and it went around on him..he backed into the grass to let traffic go by. My thought is that is why we all go to the track; to drive at the limits of our cars in a safer environment.

I know hes a good driver, he instructed me @ the etown road course AX and knocked 5 seconds of my time, I was just saying he's gone off track at every HPDE I've seen him at. :rotfl:

Most of us never reach the limits, even at the track...I can't wait until I have a few of those kinds of spins...exploring the limits of my car and my driving ability.

I still have fun keeping all four on the black top but I'm sure if I had a miata w/a bar I'd be going off track "exploring the limits" all the time too. :lol:

So it looks like all 185 photos or so will be on some online mag....is everyone ok with an unedited license plate. It's a hassle but im tryin to respect some of your guys wishes. for example, im lookin at a pic of AJ hartmans mustang and if u look hard enough you can see your #.....i this a problem for you? lmk thanks

We were staying at one of the VIP suites over at thunderbolt and my wife was like some Porsche just hit the wall. I didn't see the car though, I hope hes ok other than the bruised wallet.

Ouch...that is the most common place on TB to crash...A Mustang met it's demise in that same spot last November when I was there.

its probably cause they come around that last turn a little to hot and that concrete patch on the right side throws them off or something. when i run thunderbolt i go all 4 wheels on that concrete section at almost wot in 4th. almost everyone i see only touches it with 2 wheels. its probably helps a little that my car is set up to understeer, so the back end wont come around and point me right at the wall.

Last Aug. was the first open track day on Thunderbolt and a guy put his Vette into the wall coming into the main straight right there...pretty sure he totalled that Vette.

If you're moving fast enough....to me it seems like if you don't put most of your car on that concrete patch/pit-in lane, you won't be able to smoothly sweep out to the left as you accelerate onto the straight, and you end up having to make a sharp little steering adjustment a moment later to keep the left side tires from going off track...and that sudden steering adjustment at high speed will cause a lot of people to spin out.
