I remember back in 1994/95 when I saw the numbers for the Bugatti EB 110. It may have been one of the most powerful and stunning looking cars I had come across. That kind of power back in the early 90s, along with the McLaren F1, and Jaguar XJ220, was truly astonishing. Even the Ferrari F40 toped out over 195mph in the late 80s. Now, some 10 to 15 years later, there doesn’t seem to be an end for Man’s lust for more power, and desire to push the performance envelope beyond limits.

Case in point: Limited only by tire design, the new Bugatti Veyron is said to reach speeds of 255mph. The Veyron, initially designed with a W18 engine in the chassis, is equipped with a 8.3 liter, W16 quad-turbo, pumping out 1001hp. Power is transferred through a 7 speed transmission (I think 7 speeds are gonna be the “new thing” in the 21st century) to all four 20inch wheels. The ass on this car is wide indeed at 78.7inches. Making even Jennifer Lopez envious, the Veyron houses a set Michelin PAXs at 365 millimeters beneath its’ rump.

Want to see a cool video of the Veyron?
Go to: http://www.bugatti-cars.de/bugatti/index.html
Select “English”
Select “Models” (from the main menu)
Select “Veryon 16.4” (from the models menu)
Select “Engineering”
Select “Engine”
Then finally, select “Legends from 1001hp” and enjoy the video.
And for a write-up of the Veyron from the driver seat, check out the December/January issue of “MPH” magazine.

At a sensible $1,250,000 I have already put the house up for sale, and will be driving one shortly. Although it’s possible to have a tuned Skyline or Porsche 911 Turbo pumping out 1000hp, and the Veyron handles something like a cinder brick, this is the first 16 cylinder that’s been produced in some time. What kind of cars will be born within the next 10 to 15 years? We can only wait and see.

Forgive me for the long editorial… I’ve been on a power and speed frenzy lately.

In reference to the Bugatti's, the cars coming of the production lines are making upwards of 1200 hp.
Amazing!

Wow. I guess 1001 hp just isn't enough...

EDIT: What’s really impressive to me is this car could’ve been an 18 cylinder. What kind of power would that thing have pumped out?! :bigeek:

Tho the 253 is amazing in the guiness boook of world records as far as i know the Koenigsegg CC is still number one. The 253 is a claim that alot of motoring journalists have said they have done.

Did Koenigsegg actually go beyond the McLaren's record? I didn't think it was official. Last I heard, the McLaren still holds the record, (actually making 241mph.) I think the McLaren is still the "king." (I could be wrong.)
If the Koenigsegg holds the record, what number did it hit... I'd love to know. :)

But yes, the Veyron's speed is still on paper and "in-theory." But somebody's got the stones to test it sooner or later.

The Veyron 16-4 is quite an old concept that's finally made production.

You forgot to mention that the maximum time between shifts from an unskilled driver was .2 seconds. It's extremely fast shifting, hence the clutchless manual design. There is no way to shift it that fast.

And think about this:
The internals, including crank, are billet. Take off 4 turbos, and make it 2 turbos or even one large one. Massive amounts of power could be had, but the fact that 922ft-lbs of torque is made from 3k rpm to redline (torque LINE, not curve) is astounding.

Those cars make no sense. Not to mention they're all not that good-looking.

Enzo- $1mil- 650 horsepower
Evo- $30,000 for the car, $20,000 on mods/tuning from AMS or somebody- 800 horsepower

Oh, and the Evo doesn't look like crap. Yea, tough choice. $50K (if that) for 800 horsepower, or $1mil for 650 horsepower. And the Evo can actually go over a speed bump or be parked in a parking lot.

the cars are all sweet, anyone wishes they could own them, but for 1.25 million dollars is not worth it for a car pushing 1001HP that doesn't look good.

ENZO doesn't impress me...i like the f50 way too much...

the F1 Mclaren is amazing...

Bugatti is just a wanna be Ferrari with too much HP...

The Zondas are really nice though...sleek, sexy and fast.

Where the hell is that video? I've been hunting around for it too (I've got it on VHS when it aired on Discovery however.)

But the one you posted is cool! I haven't seen that one.

I wish I knew how people could look at the Enzo and think that is a nice looking car. But in the end the Buggati is or will be the new champ whether you like it or not

Well, horsepower isn’t everything. Handling, weight and chassis design are very important. I doubt that even if the “STIG” were driving the Veyron, he’d never be able to keep up with any of these cars on their test track. The Veyron doesn’t handle like a supercar such as the Enzo. It’s more like a super, (duper) massive, grand touring car.

If you need a car to go around a racetrack, it would be the Enzo. But if you need a vehicle to chase down the sun across a continent, the Veyron would be the car to go for!

I still can’t find the Koenigsegg vid. But here’s the second part of the supercar vid from Top Gear featuring the Enzo that’s kinda relevant to the conversation. (Jeremy loves the F40… and so do I. Reminds me of the days of Miami Vice… I love the 80s! )

Since when was the uber stiff, supercar tuned suspension on the Veyron not able to handle?

I'm confused here.

You've never even SEEN this car in action. The suspension is supposed to be awesome for cornering, as well as touring.

I don't want any of those cars. Imagine having to pull the head for some reason or another.

Forget that!

I like cars that I can work on. Specifically, something where I can pull the head and take it to the machine shop in a day.

One of the reasons I got rid of my WRX. Although my wife loved that car cause I never tinkered with it, lol.

But I suppose if I had a Bazillion dollars I would just send it back to the manufacturer if there were ever any problems, lol.

Dude… Relax man.
No I have not SEEN this car in action (I hope I have not fooled anyone into believing that I have. ) Nothing I’ve said here is meant to be taken as “doctrine.”

My rebuttal was more towards the high horsepower EVO vs. an Enzo. I may not have stated that clearly in my previous post.

The Veyron, (from what we have all read) does handle well for a car of it’s weight.
